RAY MATTER The Rays have lost three consecutive games and are 1-5 in their last 6 games they have lost consecutive series, after going 5-1 in the previous six series from June 22 July 8 this 6-game stretch has brought the Rays from a season-high 4 games over.500 to 49-49, the ninth time this season they ve held a.500 record the Rays are 15-9 in 24 games since June 22 and in 81 games since April 18 to improve from 4-13, which tied for the worst 17-game start in club history. The Rays have lost consecutive home games following a 14-1 stretch here it is the first time they have lost back-to-back games at home since June 7-8 vs. SEA they are attempting to avoid their first 3-game home losing streak since May 6-23 (0-5). Yesterday was the 17th time this season the Rays lost when allowing 3 runs or fewer, most in the majors, ahead of the Orioles (14). This series began a stretch of 15 of 19 games at home, from July 20 Aug 9 following this 6-game homestand against the Marlins (0-2) and Yankees, the Rays make a 4-game trip to Baltimore then return home for a 9-game homestand (Angels, White Sox, Orioles). FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH Last night, Justin Williams became the 17th rookie used by the Rays this season, tied with the Marlins for most in the majors, and most in the AL ahead of the Angels (16) and Orioles (15) this is only one shy of the club record for rookies used in an entire season (18, 2015) they used a club-record-tying 16 rookies before the All-Star break. The Rays have used seven different rookies as the starting pitcher, totaling 33 starts, 2nd-most in the majors behind the Marlins (44). Only 10 players on the active roster have at least 3 years of major league service time 12 players on the active roster have less than 2 years of service time, including eight players with less than 1 year.
