Rockies starter RHP Tyler Chatwood took the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts in his six innings of work RHP Jordan Lyles pitched two innings of relief and allowed two runs on three hits with two strikeouts, the first runs allowed by the Rockies bullpen in the series. With a win today, the Rockies would win their first series of the season for the third consecutive year. KIDS TABLE RHP Antonio Senzatela will make his Major League debut in a start today at 22 years and 75 days of age, Senzatela will be the 12th-youngest Rockies player in franchise history to make his Major League debut and the sixth-youngest startig pitcher. Tomorrow, as the Rockies host the Los Angeles Dodgers in the home opener, Denver native LHP Kyle Freeland will make his Major League debut in a start it will be the first time that a team had starting pitchers making their MLB debuts in consecutive games since Rafael Montero and Jacob degrom made their Major League debuts for the Mets, May 14-15, TAKE A SEAT The Rockies have recorded a total of 28 strikeouts across their first two games (14 strikeouts in each game), which is their highest total in franchise history over any two games. THIS MUST BE SWATTINGHAM First baseman Mark Reynolds, who was added to the 40-man roster March 26 after beginning Spring Training on a Minor League contract, is 6-for-11 (.545) with two runs, three doubles, one home run and five RBI over his first three games the five RBI is tied for the National League lead. FIRST ON OUR MINDS Rockies pitcher Chad Bettis announced March 10 that he will continue cancer treatments after learning that his testicular cancer had unexpectedly spread to his lymph nodes. The 27-year-old underwent surgery on Nov. 29, 2016 after tests revealed a diagnosis of testicular cancer said Bettis: I am committed to beating this cancer. My family and I are grateful for the support of the Major League Baseball Players Association, the Rockies organization and the fans. Bettis and his wife, Kristina, welcomed a daughter, their first child, last Wednesday, March 29 Everleigh Rae, seven pounds, 14 ounces. SKIP TO A NEW BEAT New Rockies Manager Bud Black earned career victory number 650 in his first game as Rockies manager on Monday. The Rockies named Bud Black the seventh manager in club history on Nov. 7, Black comes to the Rockies after spending the 2016 season as a special assistant to the general manager with the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim prior to that, he was the manager of the San Diego Padres from and the pitching coach for the Angels from Black s teams were in his eight-plus seasons in San Diego. FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME According to the Elias Sports Bureau, which considers players on the active roster only, a total of nine Rockies players are on an Opening Day roster for the first time officially. The list includes Tyler Anderson (DL in 16), Stephen Cardullo, Jon Gray (DL in 16), Carlos Estévez, Kyle Freeland, Dustin Garneau, German Márquez, Scott Oberg and Antonio Senzatela. SHORT HELMETS Five new coaches join Pitching Coach Steve Foster and Bullpen Coach Darren Holmes, who are each entering their third year on the club, and Third Base Coach Stu Cole, who is entering his fifth season. Acquired: Signed as a non-drafted international free agent, Jul. 8, 2011 GRANDE LIGAS The 22-year old right-handed pitcher made his first Opening Day roster and will make his Major League Debut today, starting against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park. Was signed as a non-drafted international free agent on July 8, 2011 signed by Rockies scouts Rolando Fernandez, Orlando Medina and Carlos Gomez.
