Central and two-game advantage in the loss column over the Tigers...a 42-minute rain delay at the outset and a fourth inning downpour didn t stop the Kansas City ace, who allowed a game opening single to Ian Kinsler, promptly picked him off and then retired the next 18 Tigers he faced before Torii Hunter singled with one-out in the seventh...after a walk to Miguel Cabrera, Shields retired the Martinez boys (Victor and J.D.) to escape Detroit s lone threat of the night...kelvin Herrera and Wade Davis each worked frames to complete the contest, with David earning his third professional save, all coming on the road trip...kc plated all it needed in the fourth with RBI singles from Sal Perez and Lorenzo Cain...Cain also tripled in the ninth to cap a 3-hit affair and scored the last run of the game...the combined 2-hitter was the second for the Royals this year, the other a 1-0 loss in Seattle on May 8...all three wins on the just completed road trip were shutouts, two coming in New York.
