1 COLORADO ROCKIES (73-83) at SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS (82-74) RHP German Marquez (1-0, 3.48) vs. LHP Matt Moore (4-5, 4.96) Game #157 / Road #79 Tuesday, September 27, 2016 BEFORE WE GO The Colorado Rockies, with six games remaining (three in San Francisco, three at home against Milwaukee) begin their final road series of 2016 this evening in San Francisco. The Rockies were eliminated from postseason play possibilities Saturday with that loss, Colorado has had six consecutive losing seasons. Colorado is now since the All-Star break began the second half 14-5 and won 11 of 13 from July 21 to Aug. 3. Colorado was over the first half, after 81 games. Since July 31, the Rockies are 5-18 on the road with one series win (Aug at Washington). THE ROCK The Rockies are 8-8 vs. the Giants this season are vs. the Giants since the start of 2015, including a 9-7 record at AT&T Park. GIANT KILLER Nolan Arenado is a lifetime.307 hitter against the Giants (80-for-261). Has 19 home runs against San Francisco, tied for third-most among active players both Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki have 19 in 121 games Arenado has 66 career games against SF whereas Matt Kemp (leader at 23 HR) has 169 career games and Adrian Gonzalez (21 HR) has 168. In 16 games vs. SF this season Arenado is 21-for-64 (.328) with 11 runs, nine doubles, one triple, five home runs, 22 RBI, six walks and eight strikeouts set a career high with seven RBI vs. the Giants on April 13 at Coors Field. THE BIG 4-0 Nolan Arenado hit his NL-leading 40th homer of the season Friday he also leads MLB with 129 RBI. Arenado is the fourth Rockies player to have multiple seasons of 40 or more home runs, joining Andres Galarraga ( ), Vinny Castilla ( ) and Todd Helton ( ). The 28 home runs are the most for a leadoff hitter in the National League since Rickie Weeks Jr. also hit 28 in 2010 with Milwaukee. His 78 RBI is a new Rockies single-season franchise record for a leadoff hitter, surpassing Eric Young s 74 RBI from the leadoff spot in TAKE FIVE Charlie Blackmon has five hitting streaks of 10 or more games this season, tied for the most such streaks in Rockies history (Larry Walker, 2002; Eric Young, 1996) his five streaks of at least 10 games are the second-most in baseball this season behind Dustin Pedroia s six streaks. Blackmon recorded his 101st career stolen base Friday, tying him with Willy Taveras for fifth on the Rockies all-time stolen base list. LEADING MAN Charlie Blackmon s nine leadoff homers are the most by a Major League player since Alfonso Soriano hit 12 to lead off a game in It s his third consecutive year setting the singleseason franchise record for leadoff home runs he hit five in 2014, six in 15 and has the nine this year. His career franchise record 21 since 2013 lead all Major League players that span. Nine Rockies players have collected their first career MLB hit this season, tying the franchise record, done previously five times (1995, 2005, 2011, 2012, 2014). DIG THE LONG BALL The 2016 season marks the first in which two Rockies players have had five or more multi-homer games in a single season both Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon have five, tying for third in the Majors this year and tying for eighth all-time in franchise history for a single season. BIG FISH According to STATS, DJ LeMahieu is one of five Rockies to hit 10 or more home runs in a season while playing second base joins Clint Barmes (22, 2009), Jose Ortiz (13, 2001), Mike Lansing (12, 1998, 11, 2000) and Todd Walker (12, 2001). WOLF ON BLAKE STREET Jon Gray recorded 10 strikeouts Friday in his first start since striking out a franchise record 16 batters on Sept. 17 the 26 strikeouts are the most in a two-game span in Rockies history. Gray now has six games of double digit strikeouts this season, the second-most in a single season in Rockies history (Pedro Astacio, 7 in 2000). Acquired from Tampa Bay on Jan. 28, 2016 along with left-handed pitcher Jake McGee in exchange for outfielder Corey Dickerson and infielder Kevin Padlo.
