The current homestand began with Miami dropping two of three to the St. Louis Cardinals. Following this series, the Marlins will return to the road to visit Atlanta (Monday-Wednesday) and Washington (Friday-Sunday). On Monday, the Marlins and Braves will take part in a split doubleheader to make up the August 1 game that was postponed due to weather. FOX Sports Florida will carry both games of the doubleheader, with game one starting at 1:35 p.m. and game two at 7:35 p.m. INCREDIBLE JOURNEY Hailey Dawson (@haileys_hand) will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch prior to tonight's game. Her journey continues to Cincinnati (Aug. 18) and Kansas City (Aug. 25), before concluding with the final pitch at Angels Stadium on Sept. 16. TODAY'S TRANSACTIONS The Marlins today acquired Minor League LHP Mackenzie Mills from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for Justin Bour and cash. Additionally, the Club selected the contract of OF Rafael Ortega from Triple-A New Orleans, placed Kyle Barraclough on the 10-day disabled list with low back stiffness and returned from rehab and reinstated Drew Rucinski from the 10-day DL. WEDNESDAY NIGHT'S RECAP Miami managed only three hits in a 7-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals struck for a run in the opening frame, but the Marlins weren't down long, as Miguel Rojas singled in Starlin Castro in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game. The Marlins wouldn't record another hit until the ninth, when Brian Anderson doubled with one out. Trevor Richards continued an impressive run by Marlins starters, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks, while striking out seven, over 5.2 innings. VS. THE METS Miami has gone 4-5 against New York in 2018, which includes a 2-4 record here at Marlins Park. After dropping the first four games of the season series, the Marlins have won four of the last five. The all-time series in South Florida is tied , which includes a Miami advantage at Marlins Park, while the all-time overall series favors the Mets, URENA'S ARENA With his strikeout of Aaron Knapp in the fifth inning of his last start, José Ureña recorded the 300th strikeout of his career. It is the second-most strikeouts by a Dominican-born player in Franchise history, behind Jesus Sánchez, who recorded 368 from Ureña also ranks second among Dominican players in games started (71), behind Sánchez (80). GOOD TO BE HOME Since June 8, Miami has gone over its last 32 games at Marlins Park. That is a drastic improvement over a record over the first 28 games at home. The Marlins have posted a 3.59 ERA (308.0 ip/123 er) over the current stretch, which is the second-best among National League teams behind only the Dodgers (3.38). IT'S HOW YOU START Marlins starting pitchers have been a dominant force at home as of late, as evidenced by a consecutive scoreless innings streak of 26.1 innings over a five start stretch that ended in the seventh inning Tuesday night. The 26.1-inning streak at home by starters established a new club record, besting two previous 25.0-inning streaks; August 17-20, 2005 and June 14-18, Since June 12, Miami starters have posted a 3.44 ERA (157.0 ip/60 er) in 28 starts at home, allowing three-or-fewer runs 25 times, and two-or-fewer runs 15 times. The starters 3.44 home ERA in that span ranks fifth among Senior Circuit clubs, behind Atlanta (3.07), the Dodgers (3.11), San Francisco (3.34) and Colorado (3.38). GIVE ME A SECOND Starlin Castro has recorded 127 hits in 114 games this season. Among all MLB second basemen, he leads in games played (113), ranks third in hits (Jose Altuve, Scooter Gennett-128 each), is tied for second in multi-hit games (37), is fourth in runs scored (65) and tied for fourth in doubles (23). HIT TO THE NINES With three more hits this season, Starlin Castro will reach the 130 hit mark for the ninth time in his Major League career. He would join a list of five others who debuted in the last 20 years to record 130+ hits in each of his first nine Major League seasons. See list at right provided by Stats LLC.
