Following last night s 4-1 victory, Los Angeles continues to lead the National League West division by 1.5 games, are 15-7 in the month of July and have posted a (.667) record since the beginning of June, which is the best winning percentage in the NL over that time. Following the weekend series in Atlanta to close out the road trip, the Boys in Blue will return home and host the Brewers (July 30-Aug. 2) and the Astros (Aug. 3-5) for a seven-game homestand. With the win last night, the Dodgers took the season series for the third consecutive season over the Braves ( ). The club, which has also won three straight contests against Atlanta, has seen success against the Braves in the last 10 meetings since July 22, 2017, posting an 8-2 record. Last season, Los Angeles won the series at SunTrust Park, 2-1, in the stadium s inaugural season and since the beginning of the 2016 campaign, the Boys in Blue have come up victorious in six of their last eight contests in the Peach State. Los Angeles has seen success on the road this season, as its.577 (30-22) road winning percentage is the best in the National League. The Dodgers have won seven of their last 10 games away from Dodger Stadium and are also 12-6 in their last 17 road games since June 22. COULDA, WOODA, SHOULDA: Left-hander Alex Wood will make his 21 st start of the season tonight as he looks to record his seventh victory of the year. In his last start on Sunday at Milwaukee, Wood gave up just two runs on five hits and struck out four over 6.0 innings as he recorded the win in the Dodgers 11-2 victory. The southpaw has been hot as of late, winning five of his last seven starts and hasn t been tagged with a loss since June 9. In those starts, the North Carolina native has gone 5-0 with a 2.95 ERA (14 ER/42.2 IP) and has struck out 32 batters against just 10 walks, while limiting the opposition to a.245 average. Wood will face his former team for the fifth time in his career (all starts) and for the second time this season, as he last pitched against the Braves on June 9 at Dodger Stadium and took the loss. He has not fared well against Atlanta in his career, as he has gone 1-3 with a 6.05 ERA (13 ER/19.1 IP). On the year, Wood is 6-5 with a 3.87 ERA (48 ER/111.2 IP) and has struck out 98 batters against 23 walks. He has held hitters to a.253 average, while posting a 1.18 WHIP, which is the 13 th lowest among qualified NL starters. On Tuesday, July 31 the Dodgers will giveaway to the first 40,000 ticketed fans an Alex Wood Bobblehead presented by Emirates. In the month of July, Dodger starting pitchers are 11-3 with a 3.14 ERA (46 ER/132.0 IP) and a.232 opponents average in 22 starts. The club also ranks among the league leaders in home runs per game (1.37, 1 st ), home runs per at bats (24.99, 1 st ), extra-base hits (352, 1 st ), slugging percentage (.431, 2 nd ) and OPS (.758, 2 nd ). Verdugo, who was optioned following last night s game to create room for Yasiel Puig on the active roster, blasted his first home run of the season with a solo shot in the third inning to tie the game, 1-1. During his second stint with the big league club, the 22 year-old went 5-for-16 (.313) with four runs, one double, one homer and two RBI along with a.984 OPS in five games. Out of the 142 home runs the Dodgers have hit this season, 101 have been solo home runs, which is the most in the Majors. The club also leads the big leagues with eight backto-back homers this year. HOW GRAND(AL) IT IS: Dodger backstop Yasmani Grandal, who finished last night s game going 1-for-5 with a solo home run in the fourth inning, has been on fire during the month of July as he is batting.390 (23-for-59) with 11 runs, four doubles, one triple, six home runs and 14 RBI along with a OPS in 19 games. Grandal leads the Majors in OPS this month, while ranking among the best in batting average (5 th ), on-base percentage (.507, 3 rd ), slugging percentage (.797, 4 th ), home runs (T-15 th ) and walks (14, T-14 th ). During that span, the pen has also limited the opposition to a.163 average, while striking out 87 batters in 69.0 innings. In the month of July, Dodger relievers lead the big leagues in saves, opponents batting average, WHIP (0.90) and strikeouts per nine innings (11.35), while also ranking among the best in ERA (3 rd ), strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.95, 5 th ) and strikeouts (7 th ). Dodger All-Star closer Kenley Jansen collected his National League leading 30 th save of the season last night after tossing a perfect 1.1 innings of relief with two strikeouts. Jansen, who also recorded his fifth four-plus out save of the season, reached 30 saves for the fifth consecutive year ( ), becoming the only Dodger and the second active reliever (also: Craig Kimbrel, 8) to accomplish the feat. Not to go unnoticed, but Dodger southpaw reliever Scott Alexander has been virtually unhittable this month, as he has allowed just one run over 11.1 innings in 12 appearances, while posting a 1-0 record with one save. He has also held hitters to a.111 average (4-for-36), while striking out 14 batters against just three walks. BEAST MODE IN FULL EFFECT: Despite going 0-for-2 with a run scored and two walks last night, Dodger All-Star outfielder Matt Kemp has showed no signs of slowing down in the second-half of the season. Kemp has gone 8-for-25 (.320) with seven runs, one double, two home runs and four RBI in eight games following the All-Star break. In his last 10 road games since July 11, he is batting.355 (11-for-31) with eight runs, one double, two homers and six RBI along with a OPS.
