10 River Cats bats kept in check, fall 5-1 to Fresno Sacramento splits series with Grizzlies, manage just one run Fresno, CA - The Sacramento River Cats (10-18) dropped the fourth and final game of their series against the Fresno Grizzlies (13-16) 5-1 Right-hander Dan Slania was on the hill for the River Cats and had some trouble early, allowing two runs in the second but settled down after that. The River Cats offense also struggled early on as they were unable to get their first hit until the fourth frame. Slania would go on to allow three more runs over his six innings tonight for a total of five on 10 hits. The No. 21 prospect in the Giants' organization, Slania struck out three Fresno hitters and walked two en route to his fourth loss of the year. Right-hander Kyle Crick pitched two scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts and one walk. The lone RBI tonight came off the bat of centerfielder Wynton Bernard who knocked in Austin Slater in seventh. As a team, the River Cats offense had seven hits but went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. The River Cats will head home for a four-game set against the Reno Aces. For game one tomorrow night, Sacramento sends right-hander Tyler Beede (1-1, 3.67) to the mound and Reno's right-hander Frank Duncan (1-3, 8.13) will get the start. 11 Squirrels And Baysox Postponed Monday Doubleheader Scheduled For May 5th RVA - Monday's contest between the Richmond Flying Squirrels and the Bowie Baysox has been postponed due to inclement weather. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Friday, May 5 at The Diamond. The doubleheader will consist of two, seven inning games, with the first contest beginning at 5:35 p.m., (gates open at 5 p.m.). Additionally, the Flying Squirrels happy hour on Friday, May 5 will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and the first 1,000 fans (15& up) will receive a free Cinco de Mayo Squirrels shirt. Tickets for Monday's game can be redeemed at the Flying Squirrels box office for any 2017 regular season home game (based on availability). Tickets must be exchanged in-person. Individual tickets, mini plans and group packages for the season are available by contacting the Flying Squirrels box office at or online at Garcia, Slatton Star In 8-5 Giants Victory San Jose evens series in Stockton STOCKTON, CA - Aramis Garcia homered as part of a four-rbi night and Heath Slatton struck out 10 batters over five dominant innings to lead the San Jose Giants to an 8-5 victory over the Stockton Ports on Friday evening at Banner Island Ballpark. The win for the Giants (13-16) evened the series with Stockton at a game apiece. Garcia (3-for-5, 2 2B, HR, 4 RBI), who also doubled twice, helped San Jose jump out to a 6-0 lead after 1 1/2 innings. Bryan Reynolds (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) and Dillon Dobson (2-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI) also finished with two hits apiece. Slatton (1-2) earned his first win of the season after achieving a new career-high in strikeouts. The right-hander surrendered just one run during his five-inning start with five hits allowed. Ryan Halstead recorded the final two outs of the game with the potential tying run at the plate to collect his fourth save of the season. The Giants used a pair of two-out rallies over the first two innings to build a lead on Friday. With two outs and none on base, Reynolds drew a walk to start the first-inning rally. Garcia

12 then stepped to the plate and blasted a double into the left field corner to score Reynolds all the way from first base with the first run of the night. Dobson then blooped a double down the left field line plating Garcia for a 2-0 advantage. San Jose then extended their lead with a four-run top of the second. After the first two batters of the inning were retired, Jalen Miller doubled down the left field line. Ryan Howard then walked before Reynolds grounded a single through the hole on the right side to score Miller. Garcia was up next and he crushed an 0-2 pitch over the fence in deep left center for a threerun homer. The home run, Garcia's team-leading fifth of the season, pushed the lead to 6-0. Meanwhile, Slatton began his start with seven strikeouts over three scoreless innings. Slatton fanned two batters in a perfect first inning before striking out the side in the second. The Ports put runners at second and third with one out in the bottom of the third, but Slatton registered back-to-back swinging strikeouts of Eli White and Tyler Ramirez to end the threat. Stockton broke through against Slatton with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Giants right-hander prevented further damage when he stranded the bases loaded. A triple from Seth Brown started the inning before Skye Bolt walked and Trent Gilbert was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Chris Iriart then singled to left bringing home Brown to cut the San Jose lead to 6-1 as the bases remained loaded. Slatton though recovered with consecutive strikeouts of Mikey White and Santiago Chavez before Branden Cogswell flied out to center to retire the side. San Jose immediately got the run back in the top of the fifth as Reynolds led off with a double and scored two batters later on Dobson's one-out single up the middle. Slatton finished his night with a scoreless bottom of the fifth pitching around a one-out walk. Slatton fanned Bolt - his 10th strikeout of the game - to end the inning. Carlos Diaz (2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO) relieved Slatton to begin the bottom of the sixth and worked through a pair of one-out hits to maintain the 7-1 Giants lead. The Ports, however, would rally for two runs in the seventh against Diaz to pull within 7-3. A walk to Eli White before a Ramirez single put runners on first and second with none out. After Diaz set down the next two hitters, Gilbert and Iriart delivered back-to-back RBI singles to cut the San Jose lead to 7-3. With the tying run in the on deck circle though Diaz came back to retire Mikey White on a fly out to end the inning. The Giants scored their eighth and final run of the contest in the top of the eighth as Johneshwy Fargas drew a leadoff walk, stole second and took third when the throw from the catcher Chavez bounced into center. Two batters later, a wild pitch plated Fargas to extend the lead to 8-3. Dylan Rheault (1 1/3 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 SO) breezed through a nine-pitch bottom of the eighth for San Jose before running into trouble in the ninth. Ramirez led off with a single before Brown stepped to the plate and launched a two-run home run to right. The round-tripper, Brown's team-leading fifth of the season, made the score 8-5. The rally then continued with a walk to Bolt before Gilbert flied out to left. Halstead was then summoned from the bullpen, but he promptly allowed a double to deep right center off the bat of Iriart moving Bolt to third.

13 However with the potential tying run at the plate, Halstead notched consecutive swinging strikeouts of Mikey White and Chavez to end the game. Stockton starter Boomer Biegalski (1-1) suffered the loss after yielding six runs (all earned) on five hits over 1 2/3 innings. He walked four and struck out two. Notes * San Jose won for just the second time in their last seven games. * The Giants improved to 6-5 against Stockton this season. * Slatton's previous career-high in strikeouts was four. His 10 strikeouts on Friday matched the high total by a San Jose pitcher this year (Conner Menez, April 27 at Rancho Cucamonga). * The Ports out-hit the Giants * Stockton was 4-for-18 (.222 AVG) with runners in scoring position and left 13 on base. * Howard (1-for-4) extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a sixth-inning single. * Halstead (0.64 ERA) is a perfect 4-for-4 in save chances this season. * Garcia has 20 RBI's in 14 games this year (.357 AVG). * The two pitching staffs combined for 28 strikeouts on Friday (Giants 15, Ports 13). Matt Krook (0-3, ERA) is slated to start on the mound for San Jose while Stockton is expected to counter with A.J. Puk (0-3, 5.31 ERA).
