1 15.0 T-BALL RULES During the regular season no official score will be published or standings kept. Score sheets will be used for batting order and last batter notification. All teams will participate in the playoffs. Practise will commence at 6:30pm, in order for the players to learn the game practise is fundamental, practise is a part of the game; please be on time. Games will commence at 7:00pm sharp. Games are over at 8:15pm sharp, whether or not the inning has been completed. The umpire may call the game, if in his opinion, darkness makes further play unsafe Each player will be supplied with uniform cap and shirt, to be worn for every game. Players must wear long pants to plat T-ball, players in shorts will not be allowed to play for safety reasons. Athletic supporter and protective cup is a MUST, good running shoes are recommended, and players must supply their own baseball glove (a) In fairness to all teams, players must throw the ball (not roll the ball) to the base where the play is trying to be made. Remember that we are trying to teach the children how to play baseball and part of the process is learning to master the skills of throwing and catching the ball. Overhand throwing is encouraged at all stations however, underhand throwing is allowed. Base running is to be done in a Station-to-Station manner. This means that if the ball is hit to an infielder, runners will advance only one (1) base. If the ball is hit to an outfielder, runners may advance until the ball is returned to an infielder. The infielder must then return the ball to his/her base where the umpire will call Time. Any runner not more than half way to the next in the umpires judgement when Time is called, will be sent back to the last base he/she touched safely. If the runner is past the halfway point, he/she will be awarded the base they were going to when Time was called. If a player overthrows the ball to a baseman, the runner does not advance a base
2 15.3 DIAMOND LAYOUT (a) (d) Base Distance 50 feet Pitcher s Mound a 4-6 foot line in line with 1 st and 3 rd base. Playing Line A semi-circle between the foul lines, 10 feet in front of home plate. A safety base (double bag) will be used at first base. The runner shall use the orange side, the fielder shall use the white side. The orange side is to be completely in foul territory PLAYING RULES Specifically: If there is a play at 1 st base and the runner touches the white half he/she is called out. If there is a play at 1 st base and the fielder steps on the orange half, the runner is safe. (a) (d) (e) All players must bat once each inning and are allowed 5 attempts to put the ball in. Coaches should pitch to their players during practice, once the game has begun, players should use the tee. All players must play an infield and outfield position at least once during the game, and a player may play a specific infield position only ONCE PER GAME. The infield will consist of catcher, pitcher, 1 st baseman, 2 nd baseman, 3 rd baseman and shortstop. For playoffs each team must field a minimum of seven (7) players. All other players will take outfield positions. Outfielders must stay on the edge of the grass until the ball is hit. The pitcher must stand behind the pitcher s mound until the ball has been hit
3 (f) In the event of unequal line ups, the batting rotation is as follows: 1st inning Team A bats: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,1,2 Team B bats: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 2nd inning Team A bats: 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,1,2,3,4 Team B bats: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 (g) (h) (i) (j) (k) (l) Players cannot bat out of order. Players arriving after the team has batted through will be allowed to play in that game after the umpires and opposing coach have been notified. The player must be put at the bottom of the order and cannot assume a fielding position until the next defensive inning. One coach from the defensive team will be allowed in the outfield ON THE GRASS, but MUST NOT interfere with the play. The coach will be given one (1) warning to remain on the grass at all times. If the coach does not comply, that team will lose their right to have a coach on the field for the remainder of that game. All remaining defensive coaches (parents) must remain out of play (behind the screen) while the ball is in play (alive). The offensive team (team at bat) is allowed a 1 st and 3 rd base coach who must remain outside the foul lines and must not interfere, assist or help the runners around the base path. Coaches may assist a batter in the batter s box, but must return to the dugout entrance before the ball is put into play. Only one player at a time is allowed in the on-deck circle and must wear a properly fastened batting helmet. The umpire starts the game by placing the ball on the tee and calling PLAY BALL once the home team has taken their defensive positions. (m) (i) The batter becomes a base runner when the ball is hit hard enough to cross the PLAYING LINE in fair territory
4 (ii) (iii) (iv) The umpire will call DEAD BALL if the ball in not hit hard enough to cross the playing line. A DEAD BALL IS COUNTED AS AN ATTEMPT. There will be no double plays on fly balls, caught or otherwise. Runners return to bases. An infielder will be allowed to tag out a runner between bases (i.e.: The shortstop can only tag a runner between second and third base). (n) (o) (p) THE BAT MUST BE DROPPED AT THE PLATE. Any batter who deliberately throws the bat will be called out. The umpire will issue a warning to BOTH teams on the first offence of a thrown bat. Subsequent offences will be penalized. The ball must be THROWN to the player at the home plate. LAST BATTER (i) (ii) (iii) The umpire must be informed that the LAST BATTER is coming to the plate so the defensive team can be informed. Failure to announce LAST BATTER will result in a replay. Runners on base while the last batter is up can only be forced out at home plate. The ball must be THROWN to the catcher who then steps on the plate to end play. A play cannot be made on the base paths when the last batter hits the ball. IF the last batter strikes out, runners on base cannot score. If the ball is thrown out of bounds on its way to the catcher, all runners will score. (q) When the ball is hit to the outfield, the ball must be THROWN back into the infield. The umpire shall call TIME when an infielder (not the pitcher) is in possession of the ball and touches their respective base or home plate. Advancement of the base runners shall be at the discretion of the umpire (See Rule 15.3 for information on placing runners)
5 (r) When the ball is hit to an infielder, the infielder (including the pitcher), must throw the ball to the player that is covering the base. The umpire will call TIME when the player who is in possession of the ball touches the base. If the ball is hit directly to the infielder that is covering the base, the umpire will call TIME once the infielder in possession of the ball has touched the base. Advancement of the base runners shall be at the discretion of the umpire (See Rule 15.3 for information on placing runners)
