1 Reading Fightin Phils ((Phillies)) vs. Thunder Thunder ((Yankees)) LHP Josh Tols (1-1, 3.41) vs. RHP Albert Abreu (Double-A Debut) Monday September 3, :00 PM Game 140 of 140 ARM & HAMMER Park Trenton, NJ 2 LAST GAME: Right-handers Deivi Garcia and Chase Hodson carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning, and Kyle Holder provided the run output in an Eastern Division-clinching 3-0 Thunder victory over the Reading Fightin Phils in front of a crowd of 5,321 on Sunday night at ARM & HAMMER Park. The division title is the 10 th in 25 seasons for the Thunder (78-61), who have now won 10 of their last 12 games. Making his double-a debut, Garcia retired the first nine batters he faced before issuing back-to-back walks to open the fourth inning. The 19-year-old escaped trouble by retiring the next three batters and proceeded to strike out seven batters over five hitless innings. Chase Hodson took over for Garcia to begin the sixth, retiring six batters in a row before allowing a leadoff walk to Jose Pujols to begin the seventh. Deivi Grullon then grounded into a force out, but Jan Hernandez hit a hard groundball up the middle for a single, breaking up the Thunder no-hit bid after seven and one-third innings, Trenton s longest bid of the season. Hodson was then lifted from the game in favor of Matt Wivinis, who struck out two batters to escape the jam. Wivinis went on to toss a scoreless ninth, working around a one-out single by Cornelius Randolph. Holder produced the game s first run in the second with a solo homer to right field off Reading (64-72) right-hander Harold Arauz. He would produce the final two runs for the Thunder as well, driving home a run from third on a groundout on a fourth-inning groundout, and slashing an RBI-single to center in the seventh. The shutout was the second in a row for the Thunder, whose bullpen extended its scoreless streak to 32 consecutive innings Eastern League Standings 2.x East Division W L GB Streak x - Trenton W3 x New Hampshire W1 Hartford L1 Reading L4 Binghamton L1 Portland W1 West Division W L GB Streak x - Altoona W4 x - Akron L1 Harrisburg W3 Bowie L3 Erie W1 Richmond L3 THUNDER CLAPS: PLAYOFF-BOUND: With last Sunday s 8-3 win in Hartford, the Thunder clinched their third consecutive trip to the Eastern League playoffs. It marks the second time in franchise history that the team has strung together three consecutive postseason appearances, having also done so from 2005 to Since April 11, the Thunder have sat in either first or second place in the Eastern Division standings. Sunday s win clinched the Eastern Division title, marking the Thunder s 10 th division title in 25 seasons of play. A LOOK AHEAD: Sunday s division-clinching win means that the Thunder will travel to Manchester, New Hampshire for the first two -27 games of the best-of-five Eastern Division championship series on Wednesday and Thursday before returning home Friday to host Game 3. CLOSE, BUT NO CIGAR: The Thunder took a no-hitter into the eighth inning of Sunday s win (Jan Hernandez one-out single in 8 th ), marking the longest no-hit bid of the season for Trenton. It eclipsed Nick Green s performance last Wednesday in Altoona, when the right-hander allowed a two-out single to Bryan Reynolds in the seventh. CAN T TOUCH THEM: Going back to Matt Wivinis clean inning to finish last Sunday s victory at Hartford, the Thunder bullpen has thrown 32 consecutive scoreless innings. In that time, the bullpen has allowed 15 hits, 11 walks and struck out 37. THE STREAK: Since August 22, the Thunder have won 10 of 12 games, including six in a row from August 24-29, which matched their longest winning streak of the season. The streak has put Trenton a season-high 16 games over.500. FEW FAMILIAR FACES: Of the nine active players currently on the Thunder roster, only one has been active from opening day on April 5 to the present right-hander Jordan Foley has spent the entire season with Trenton, leading the team with 37 appearances. KEEP FIGHTIN : The Thunder have the edge in the season series against Reading, 9-5, entering Monday. In 25 seasons of facing off, the Thunder own a all-time record against Reading. TURN THIS THING AROUND: Rashad Crawford has hit safely in 13 of his last 15 games and is seeing sustained success at the plate after a rough first half of the season. After hitting safely in just eight of 22 games (.143, 0 HR, 3 RBI) for the Thunder in April and May, Crawford returned to the Thunder in late July (following stints at extended spring training and high-a Tampa) and has hit safely in 21 of 29 games since then, including batting.309 over 26 games in August. + Upcoming Probable Starting Pitchers: Wednesday, September 5 G1 EDCS TBA vs. New Hampshire Thursday, September 6 G2 EDCS TBA vs. New Hampshire Friday, September 7 G3 EDCS TBA vs. New Hampshire Saturday, September 8 G4 EDCS TBA vs. New Hampshire (If Necessary) 2018 Monthly Report April: 12-9, May: 20-12, June: 14-13, July: 14-13, August: 16-14, September: 2-0 Date Opponent Time/Result Reading W 6-1 Reading L 8-4 Hartford W 2-1 Hartford L 6-3 Hartford W 4-2 (11) 8/7 Altoona L 5-1 8/8 Altoona W 2-1 8/9 Altoona L 9-7 Harrisburg W 10-1 Harrisburg L 9-1 Harrisburg L 6-3 8/13 Portland L 5-2 (10) Portland L 6-5 Portland L 3-2 8/17 New Hampshire W 3-1 8/18 New Hampshire (DH) W 5-4 (9), W 3-2 8/19 New Hampshire L /20 Hartford L 4-0 8/21 Hartford L 7-3 Reading W 8-7 Reading L 8-3 Hartford W 4-2 Hartford W 7-6 Hartford W 8-3 Altoona W 5-1 Altoona W 8-1 Altoona W 5-0 Altoona L 5-1 8/31 Reading W 3-2 9/1 Reading W 3-0 9/2 Reading W 3-0 9/3 Reading 1:00 PM
