3 Overview What is Majors Baseball? In house Intramural Leagues. Leagues comprised of both 11s and 12s. This is a Cal Ripken requirement. BYC has two difference divisions: Blue and Gold. 3

4 Blue Division Overview Field dimensions: 50 mound, 70 bases. Likely will have 5 or possibly 6 teams, 12 players per team. Cal Ripken Rule- no team can have more than eight 12s. BYC rule: each team will have exactly four 11s. Different rules and skills - leads, pitching from stretch, balks, dropped third strikes, etc. 4

5 Overview Gold Division Field dimensions: 46 pitchers mound, 60 bases. Likely 4-5 teams, approximately 12 players per team. Teams are comprised of some 11s and 12s (varying percentages). 5

6 Overview What Do Blue & Gold have in common? Intramural teams play within their own division (no crossover). Both intramural leagues will have their own playoffs. Number of teams based on registration and historical data on the proper balance of teams/ players in each division. 6

7 Why Two Different Divisions? Benefits of two tiered structure Enhanced experience for players with developing skills. Players who need improvement no longer batting against District level pitchers. Strong but not quite District level players get to be leaders, play star positions. Enhanced Competitiveness for all star caliber players. 7

8 Why Two Different Divisions? (cont d) Other factors. Cal Ripken Rules require two divisions in leagues with at least 10 Majors teams. BYC s historical impetus for Blue/Gold structure. Might or might not be the case this year. 46/60 dimensions are more appropriate for another season for developing players. 8

9 Placement onto Blue vs. Gold Intramural Ratings from prior season s intramural coaches. Ratings from Summer (District or Select) Coach, if applicable. Indoor (Maple Zone) evaluations- used to further update player ratings (e.g. new players, improved players, etc.). Not a tryout. Combined ratings & evaluations- quantify hitting, fielding, throwing, running, baseball IQ/ intangibles. Ratings and indoor evaluations used in both the Blue and Gold drafts. 9

11 Blue Division Numbers Eight 12 s per team x approximately 5 teams = approximately s. Numbers will change if we have 4 or 6 teams. Four 11 s per team x approximately 5 teams = approximately s. Numbers will change if we have 4 or 6 teams. Gold Division Parity in draft, irrespective of age. Numbers will vary per team. 11

12 Drafts General Notes Drafts attended by Baseball executive committee members to assist with process. Coaches, GMs do their best to ensure correct placement. It s not an exact science but ratings and evaluations provide the best guidance. 12

13 Beyond the Draft Blue Teams Set; Gold Draft After completion of Blue draft, players are contacted by coaches regarding placement. Gold draft conducted after blue draft is settled. Gold draft can t begin until coaches are identified. Gold teams might be picked up to a week after Blue draft. If interested in coaching, regardless of division, please let us know 13

14 Beyond the Draft Coaches Blue Head Coaches - typically a parent of a 12 year old. Blue assistants each team must have at least one assistant whose son is

15 Summer Baseball District Teams From the Blue division, the following teams District can be formed for summer district play: 12 50/70 12s 46/60 11s 50/70 Potentially 11s 46/60 Fielding (4) District teams is common but not guaranteed. Factors: Interest - are there enough players interested in participating? Cal Ripken Rules - Cannot form 11 s 46/60 District team if we only have 5 Majors Blue teams. Still will have Select teams. Competitiveness - other non 50/70 clubs put there top teams in at 46/60, so a realistic assessment is key. Select Teams One or more Select 12 s. One or more Select 11 s. 15

17 Parent Code of Conduct VIII. CODE OF CONDUCT (from registration): *Read the following information and check the box to indicate your agreement. Brandywine Youth Club Code of Conduct: Each spectator will ensure that his/her conduct is that of a lady or gentleman while observing the competition and after its conclusion. To satisfactorily meet these responsibilities, the spectator is expected to: Respect the rules of the game. Respect the game officials and refrain from questioning their decisions or from addressing them in a loud, disrespectful, or abusive manner. Cheer for their team in a positive, supportive manner, refraining at all times from making hostile, negative, or abusive remarks about the opposing team. Refrain at all times from coming onto the playing surfaces or from throwing objects or other foreign materials onto the playing surfaces. Exit in an orderly manner at the conclusion of the activity. Enter indoor facilities quietly and remain seated during the conduct of the activity. Follow all building and facility rules and regulations, respecting at all times the property of others. Demonstrate appropriate gestures of sportsmanship at the conclusion of the game, win or lose. Realize, accept and practice the principle that a team's reputation is built not only on its playing ability but also on sportsmanship, courtesy and citizenship of its fans. I agree to abide by the Brandywine Youth Club Code of Conduct whenever participating in a BYC sponsored activity. I also acknowledge that failure to follow the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, which may include suspension or banishment from BYC activities. 17

Volunteers, Volunteers, and more Volunteers Hand tools- hammers, wrenches, etc. Ladders- 10 ft.+ A ladders are a big help and are needed Brooms, Rakes, shovels, clippers, weed whackers, wheel barrels General Tasks Barn and garage area cleanup Batting cage preparation- cleanup, net installations Temporary fence installation- for OF areas, backstops on football field corners General repairs Dugout cleanup and general repair of other field areas Install tarps, bases, pitching mounds Items that have taken a beating during the off-season! Field Manager- Mike Albero Oversees tasks but can t do it alone Looking for people to take the lead on certain tasks 20
