1 Atlanta Braves (36-26) vs. LOS ANGELES DODGERS (31-31) RHP Brandon McCarthy (5-2, 4.83) vs. RHP Walker Buehler (3-1, 2.74) Friday, June 8, :10 p.m. PST Dodger Stadium Los Angeles, CA Game 63 Home Game 32 (14-17) Night Game 45 (21-23) TV: SNLA/SNLA Spanish Radio: AM 570 (English); KTNQ 1020 AM (Spanish) THE BOYS ARE BACK: After going 5-1 in their six-game road trip to Colorado (3-0) and Pittsburgh (2-1), the Dodgers return home to open an eight-game, 10-day homestand with the first of three contests against the Braves tonight. The Dodgers 8-7 win over the Pirates yesterday was their 15th win in 20 games and kept the club unbeaten in its last six series (5-0- 1), as it pulled within 1.5 games of the first-place Diamondbacks. With a win tonight, the Boys in Blue will be over the.500 mark for the first time since posting record on April 23. Following the three-game weekend matchup against Atlanta, the club will welcome the Rangers for a two-game interleague series (June 12-13) and will host their division rivals, the Giants, for a three-game set (June 15-17). Los Angeles took the season series last year over Atlanta, 4-3, including winning four of its last five games. The Dodgers have been dominant against the Braves at Dodger Stadium since the beginning of the 2014 campaign, winning 10 of 13 games at the Ravine during that span. Despite the overall record at home this season, the Dodgers have picked it up at the Ravine as of late, as they have won six of their last nine contests at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers tonight will host their sixth annual LGBT Night that includes special themed programming through the game and a sold out ticket pack. The night will begin with the official 2018 LA Pride kickoff party, which starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Right Field Plaza. The pregame will also include singer/actor Brian Justin Crum singing the National Anthem and former MLB umpire Dale Scott throwing out the Ceremonial First Pitch. Following the game will be Friday Night Fireworks presented by Denny s, featuring music mix by DJ BowieJane. A WALK IN THE PARK: The Dodgers will send rookie right-hander Walker Buehler to the mound tonight for his ninth start of the season as he will face the Braves for the first time in his career. Buehler last pitched six days ago at Colorado, allowing four runs on a career-high eight hits while striking out two over 5.0 innings as he did not factor in the decision. The hard-throwing 23-year-old has been a spark in the injury-riddled Dodger rotation, as he has gone 3-1 with a 2.74 ERA (14 ER/46.0 IP) and has limited the opposition to a.213 average in eight starts. Buehler has also struck out 50 batters against just 11 walks over 46.0 innings, while posting a 1.02 WHIP. Among NL starters who have logged at least 40.0 innings, he ranks fourth in opponents OPS (.550), sixth in WHIP, 11 th in opponents batting average and 13 th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.55). Buehler has been lights out at Dodger Stadium this season, going 1-1 with a 1.44 ERA (4 ER/25.0 IP) and holding opposing hitters to a.170 average, while striking out 27 batters against just three walks in four starts. According to Stats LLC., since the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles before the 1958 season, only Hideo Nomo (1.00 ERA, 1995) and Alan Foster (1.04 ERA, ) have started their careers with the Dodgers with a lower ERA in their first four career home starts. BULL-PENNING: The Dodgers have relied heavily on their bullpen in the past 20 games since May 17 (15-5 record), as they have tossed a total of 88.2 innings during that span, which is the second most in the Majors trailing just the Tampa Bay Rays (110.1 IP). In that time, the pen has gone 7-4 with a 3.15 ERA (31 ER/88.2 IP) and has held the opposition to a.223 average, while striking out 89 batters against 29 walks. With Dodger starter Dennis Santana being scratched to start right before game time yesterday against the Pirates due to injury, which occurred during warm-ups, Dodger manager Dave Roberts was forced to use all nine pitchers in his bullpen. According to Elias Sports Bureau, it was the first time in Dodger franchise history that nine pitchers were used in a nine-inning game. Dodger closer Kenley Jansen recorded his 15 th save of the season yesterday (T-3 rd, NL), after allowing one run (home run) on one hit over 1.2 innings of relief with two strikeouts. It was Jansen s first five-out save of the season, third of his career, and his first since June 25, 2017 against Colorado. Over his last 20 relief appearances since April 21, he has allowed just three earned runs over 22.0 IP (1.23 ERA), while collecting 13 saves, striking out 24 against four walks and holding hitters to a.171 average. Not to go unnoticed, but Dodger reliever Erik Goeddel has yet to allow a run since joining the Dodgers on May 18 after being claimed from the Seattle Mariners, tossing 10.1 scoreless innings and holding hitters to a.167 average (6-for-36) in 10 games. MATCHUP vs. BRAVES Dodgers: T-3 rd, NL West (1.5 GB) Braves: 2 nd, NL East (3.0 GA) All-Time: LA leads series, 1,185-1, ( at Dodger Stadium) 2017: L.A. won series, 4-3 (2-2 at Dodger Stadium) BOMB SQUAD: The Dodger bats have started to heat up as they launched three more home runs in yesterday s contest at Pittsburgh and upped their season total to 73 longballs, which is currently tied for third most in the Majors with the Braves and Rockies. Dodger outfielder Joc Pederson led the game off with his fifth home run of the season for his first leadoff homer of the year and his fourth of his career (last: May 23, 2015 vs. SD). Pederson followed with another bomb in the eighth inning with a two-run shot as he recorded his second multi-homer game of the 2018 campaign (last: June 2 at COL) and his sixth of his career. Dodger first baseman Cody Bellinger stroked his team-high 11 th homer of the season with a two-run bomb in the seventh inning. Bellinger has homered in three consecutive games, which he has accomplished once before in his rookie campaign last year from June UPCOMING SCHEDULE The Dodgers are one of three teams in the National League to boast five players with eight homers or more as they are led by Cody Bellinger (11), Matt Kemp (10), Yasmani Grandal (9), Max Muncy (9) and Chris Taylor (8). The other two teams are the Diamondbacks and Cubs. The Dodgers have stroked a Major League leading 17 home runs already in six games during the month of June, including hitting three homers in a game in five of the six contests this month. Despite hitting just one home run in the first 53 games of the season, Pederson has launched five longballs in his last five games. During that span, he has gone 8-for-16 (.500) with eight runs, two doubles and seven RBI. The Dodgers return home after scoring 55 runs in the past six-game road trip against the Rockies and Pirates, which according to Stats LLC., is tied for the fourth most runs scored in Los Angeles Dodger history in a six-game span with the 1979 and 85 clubs. The last time the Dodgers scored more than 55 runs in a six-game span was on June 29-July 4, 1996, when that team scored 56 total runs. VOTE KEMP: Dodger outfielder Matt Kemp continues to turn back the clock as he drove in his team-leading 40 th run of the season (T-8 th, NL) yesterday and finished the game going 1-for-5 with a run scored. Kemp has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games since May 25, batting.422 (19-for-45) with 13 runs, four doubles, five homers and 18 RBI along with a OPS. On the year, Kemp has posted a.349/.380/.589 slashline with 28 runs, 16 doubles, 10 home runs and 40 RBI in 60 games. He currently leads the National League in batting average, trailing only Boston s Mookie Betts (.359) for the best average in the Majors. In addition, Kemp s.968 OPS ranks third on the Senior Circuit while his.589 slugging percentage leads the NL and ranks sixth in the Majors. Kemp s.432 batting average (35-for-81) with runners on base leads the Major Leagues, while his.432 (19-for-44) average with runners in scoring position is tied for second best in the big leagues with the Orioles Manny Machado and trailing just the Braves Freddie Freeman (.434). Kemp hitting.438 (14-for-32) in close and late situations, which ranks second in the Majors.
