The Sox are 2-2 on the homestand, losing two of three games to Detroit over the weekend before posting a 3-1 victory last night over Houston. Following this three-game series, the White Sox take a five-day trip to Tampa Bay (6/12-14) and Pittsburgh (6/15-16). The Sox went 5-6 on their last trip to Toronto (1-2), Baltimore (1-1), Houston (2-1) and Texas (1-2) and 2-5 on their last homestand vs. Cleveland (1-3) and Minnesota (1-2). TONIGHT S STORYLINES Rookie LHP Carlos Rodon has made three straight quality starts and four of fi ve overall. Avisail Garcia has three home runs and seven RBI in his last four games Garcia has homered in back-to-back games for the second time in his career (also 8/28-30/13). White Sox pitchers own a 1.22 ERA (5 ER/37.0 IP) with 43 strikeouts in four games this season against the Astros. The Sox are hitting.169 (28-166) with 13 runs scored over the last five games and.186 (65-349) with 27 runs scored over their last 11 at home dating back to 5/18/15. LAST NIGHT S RECAP Chris Sale struck out 14 batters over 8.0 IP, and Avisail Garcia hit a game-winning, two-run homer in the fourth inning to lead the White Sox to a 3-1 victory over Houston. Sale earned his 50th career victory, allowing one run on fi ve hits and one walk to improve to 3-0 with a 0.40 ERA (1 ER/22.2 IP) and 39 strikeouts over his last three starts and 3-1 with a 0.56 ERA (2 ER/32.0 IP) and 47 strikeouts in four career starts against the Astros. He retired 13 of the fi nal 14 batters after his streak of 22.2 consecutive scoreless IP ended in the fourth inning the 14 strikeouts tied for the second-highest total of his career. After the Astros tied the game at 1-1, Garcia hit a two-run shot to right fi eld off Lance McCullers, his second in as many nights and third in the last four games. David Robertson pitched a scoreless ninth for his 11th save. COME SALE AWAY LHP Chris Sale has joined Hall-of-Famer Sandy Koufax as the only major-league pitchers since 1900 to record three straight starts of 12-plus strikeouts with one or no runs allowed (Elias). Sale struck out 12 batters over 8.0 scoreless IP on 5/28-1 at Baltimore, 13 over 7.0 scoreless IP on 6/3 at Texas and 14 with one run allowed over 8.0 IP last night vs. Houston. Koufax accomplished the feat over his fi nal three starts of the 1965 season, striking out 12 over 9.0 scoreless IP on 9/25 vs. St. Louis, 13 over 9.0 scoreless IP on 9/29 vs. Cincinnati and 13 with one run allowed over 9.0 IP on 10/2 vs. Milwaukee. Note: Hall-of-Famer Randy Johnson struck out 12-plus batters over three straight games with Arizona from 7/18-29/01, the fi rst of which was a relief outing when he fanned 16 over 7.0 IP. Some of Sale s notable strikeout accomplishments. Is the fi rst pitcher in baseball s modern era (since 1900) to record at least 10 strikeouts in four straight starts while increasing his total in each outing (Elias). Has struck out 10-plus batters in a franchise-record four consecutive starts, the fi rst pitcher in the major leagues to accomplish the feat since David Price (fi ve straight) from 6/4-25/14 with Tampa Bay (Elias). Has fanned 10-plus batters a franchise-record 23 times in 96 career starts, including fi ve of his last six his 13 career games with 12 or more strikeouts also are a franchise record and the most in the major leagues since 2012 (STATS). His 14 strikeouts last night tied for the second-highest total of his career struck out a career-high 15 on 5/28/12 at Tampa Bay and 14 on 6/14/13 at Houston. Has recorded three starts this season with at least 25 missed swings (all in past three starts), including 26 last night, which matched the major-league high for 2015 all other pitchers in the major leagues this season have combined for two such starts. WHITE SOX VS. HOUSTON The White Sox lead the 2015 season series, 3-1, after the teams split six games last season. The Sox are hitting.197 (27-137) with a 1.22 ERA (5 ER/37.0 IP) and have outscored the Astros, Chicago is 5-1 in its last six home games vs. Houston. The Sox lead the all-time series they are 13-9 at U.S. Cellular Field and 7-9 on the road (6-7 at Minute Maid Park). SEEING STARS SS Tim Anderson, 2B Joey DeMichele, OF Jacob May and RHP Frankie Montas of Class AA Birmingham have been named to the North Division roster for the Southern League All-Star Game, which will be played on 6/23 in Montgomery, Ala. SS Eddie Alvarez and C Brett Austin of Class A Kannapolis have been named to the Northern Division squad for the South Atlantic League All-Star Game, which will be played on 6/23 in Asheville, N.C. SOX SELECT FULLMER Chicago selected RHP Carson Fullmer from Vanderbilt University with the No. 8 overall pick in the First-Year Player Draft. Fullmer, 21, was named Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2015 after going 13-2 with a 1.82 ERA (23 ER/114.0 IP) and 152 strikeouts over 17 starts. ACES HIGH RHP Blake Hickman of the University of Iowa headlines a group of fi ve products from the White Sox Amateur City Elite (ACE) program who are potential selections in the 2015 draft. Hickman, who is ranked by Baseball America as the No. 69 Prospect in the draft, went 9-2 with a 2.99 ERA (28 ER/84.1 IP) and.215 opponents average over 16 starts in Other potential ACE draft picks are RHP Regynold Johnson (Heartland Community College) and RHP Brandon White (South Suburban College), as well as 3B Jalin McMillan and OF Raphe Gross from Simeon Career Academy. 14 previous ACE players have been drafted, with OF Jonathan Clark (17th round in 2011, Mets) the highest selection. YOUNG GUN Rookie LHP Carlos Rodon owns a 1.47 ERA (3 ER/18.1 IP) with 18 strikeouts over his last three starts. On 6/4 at Texas, Rodon (22.176) became the youngest White Sox pitcher to strike out 10 or more batters since Jason Bere (22.117) fanned 12 on 9/20/93 at California (Elias). Rodon is the third Sox starter in 2015 to strike out 10-plus batters, joining Chris Sale (fi ve times) and Jose Quintana (once). HOW THE WEST WAS WON The White Sox are 6-3 vs. the American League West in 2015, going 3-0 vs. Oakland, 3-1 vs Houston and 1-2 vs. Texas. By comparison, the Sox went vs. the AL West last season, recording a 4.83 ERA (152 ER/283.0 IP). MOUND REBOUND White Sox starting pitchers own a 3.69 ERA (85 ER/207.1 IP) in 32 games since 5/7, fi fth-best in the American League.
