The Cubs are 9-4 (.692) vs. the American League in 2018, the third-best winning percentage in the majors in interleague play this season after this series, the Cubs still have interleague sets remaining at Detroit (August 21-22) and at the White Sox (September 21-23). This stop in Kansas City represents a brief three-game road trip that follows a brief four-game homestand last weekend against the San Diego Padres (2-2) that followed a brief five-game road trip July 27-August 1 through St. Louis and Pittsburgh (2-3) after this series, the Cubs return to Wrigley Field for a brief fivegame homestand August vs. Washington and Milwaukee. OUR BÁE: Javier Báez last night connected for his 25th homer of the season, extending his career high he has also already set career-high marks in doubles (31), triples (7), RBI (88) and stolen bases (19) he is nearing career-highs with 71 runs scored (75 in 2017) and 124 hits (128 in 2017). Báez s 88 RBI lead the National League and are second most in the majors, trailing only Boston s J.D. Martinez (93 RBI) Báez also ranks at or near the top in several offensive categories, as seen on the left side of this page. Only August 7, Javy is already just the third different Cub in franchise history to reach 30 doubles, five triples, 25 homers and 15 stolen bases in a single season, joining Ryne Sandberg (1985 and 1992) and Alfonso Soriano (2007) thanks to Christopher Kamka. Additionally, it took Javy only 110 games to reach 25 homers this season according to STATS, Inc., he is the third-fastest second baseman to reach the mark in franchise history in the Modern Era (since 1900), trailing only Sandberg (92 games in 1990) and Rogers Hornsby (106 games in 1929). Projected over 162 games, Báez is on pace to record 45 doubles, 36 homers, 27 stolen bases and 127 RBI this season. IT S JOB ONE: Cole Hamels last night recorded a quality start (6.0 IP, 1 ER), just the sixth by a Cubs pitcher in the club s 19 games since the All-Star Break and only their fourth on the road starting June 17. Cubs starting pitchers are 26-7 with a 1.43 ERA (43 ER/270.0 IP) in 42 quality starts this season.
