2 Game Preliminaries Dress appropriately: blue umpire shirt, umpire hat, and grey/charcoal/navy pants with black shoes. Arrive 10 to 15 min early for the game. Be professional, introduce yourself to the coaches. Start the games on time. You may have to get the coaches moving. Be vocal, make sure your calls are heard. Zookas Coaches are responsible for setup prior to game start. 34mph is the speed for Minors 6-7; 38mph for Minors 8 The zooka will display the speed after each pitch. Speed is adjusted by the up/down bottons below the display. It changes the % air charge.if the pitches are starting to go low or high you may need to adjust it up or down a couple of points. Place the ball in the nozzle and let the ball roll naturally down the barrel. Do not flip or force it in. If you are having trouble with the zooka ask the coaches for help.

3 Minors 6-7 Rules Games are 75 minutes or 6 innings, whichever comes first. 5 runs maximum per inning. No bunting, no pass balls, No lead offs, no hit by pitch, no walks or steals. Runners can advance 1 base at a time. No advancement on errors. For example, the batter hits a ball to the pitcher who then overthrows the ball. The batter or any other runners on base cannot advance on the overthrow. If a batted ball carries to the grass on the fly to the outfield, the batter and any runners on base can advance at their own risk 2 bases at most. If a batted ball hits the zooka or stops within 3 ft of the zooka, the ball is declared dead and the batter is awarded 1 st base and all runners advance 1 base. If a thrown ball hits the zooka or stops within 3 ft of the zooka, the ball is declared dead and the base runners are awarded the base they are advancing to. The fields will be prepped with a circle marking the 3ft perimeter. If not use your best judgement. The first non-swinging strike is a warning strike and does not count as a strike. After your first warning strike, all strikes count. A swinging strike is always a strike. Remember that the plate is fair territory. A batted ball that hits the plate and remains in fair territory is fair. It will happen and someone will challenge it.

A play is over once the ball is under control by an infielder and all runners have safely reached the bases to which they were advancing. A runner who is between two bases at the moment that an infielder gains control of the ball may continue to advance to the next base at his/her own risk, but no further, unless the defense to attempts to make a play on that runner. The umpire shall call time once the ball is under control by an infielder and the runners have all reached the bases to which they were advancing. Runners may advance at most 1 extra base on an infield overthrow error, unless the defense attempts to make a play on the runner. If the defense attempts to make a play on a base-runner after an error and commits another error, the runners may advance at most one base again. If the batter hits the ball safely into the outfield, all runners, including the batterrunner, may advance at their own risk until the ball is under the control of an infielder according to rules above. 5 Umpires For Minor 8 There will be two umpires on the field of play for all Minors 8 games, one at the machine and the other on the field, Machine ump calls balls and strikes, home plate and 3rd depending on situation. Base Umpire (BU) has 1st and 2 nd bases. Positioning and Responsibilities for Plate/Machine Umpire Plate Umpire/Machine Umpire (PU/MU) will stand in the position for feeding the ball to the machine. The PU will be responsible for calling Balls and Strikes and all calls at the plate. You must be mobile, don t just stand there behind the machine. The PU will also be responsible for calls at 3rd and for all Fair and Foul Ball calls.

6 Positioning and Responsibilities for Base Umpire (BU) BU will always start in the A Position with no runners on. This position is located in foul territory just beyond the infield grass 10-15ft behind first. If play is made on Batter Runner at first with no one on this is your call. If there is a runner on 1st you will stand in the B position which is located behind the 2nd baseman on the grass. This way you can make a call at 1st and 2nd if needed. The PU will be responsible for calls at 3rd, unless there is a play being made at home, and then you are responsible to cover calls at 3rd. Whenever there is a runner on base (doesn t matter what Base) stay in the B Position, with no one on your in the A Position. The BU will also be responsible to watch for Runner leaving early, Interference, and Obstruction.
