14 Giants' ace Madison Bumgarner to join Sacramento River Cats Four-time All-Star, three-time World Champ expected to start rehab Friday, June 30 West Sacramento, CA - Three-time World Champion Madison Bumgarner is expected join the Sacramento River Cats Friday, June 30 as he begins his Major League rehab assignment. The Giants' ace is scheduled to start Friday night as the River Cats host the Fresno Grizzlies. Bumgarner is rehabbing a left-shoulder strain, an injury he sustained in a dirt biking accident in April. Bumgarner most recently pitched for the Giants' rookie-level Arizona team Sunday, throwing three no-hit innings. Before that, he threw two innings in a simulated game at the Giants' Spring Training complex in Arizona. The 27-year-old was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the first round (10 th overall) of the MLB June Amateur Draft in He made his Major League debut on September 8, 2009 and was an important factor in the Giants 2010 Postseason run. Bumgarner made history during the 2014 Postseason, throwing a record-setting 52.2 innings, including a historic five-inning save in Game 7 to clinch the Championship for San Francisco. Bumgarner's rehab assignment in Sacramento is scheduled to begin this Friday, June 30 as the River Cats host the visiting Fresno Grizzlies at Raley Field. 15 Squirrels & Phils Suspended In Reading DH Starts In Second Inning Reading, PA - The Flying Squirrels and Reading Fightin Phils contest was suspended in the second inning on Friday due to inclement weather at FirstEnergy Stadium. The suspended game will be completed to the full nine innings, beginning at 5:15 p.m., on Saturday. It will be followed by a seven-inning contest, scheduled to begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. The game will restart with the Squirrels leading 1-0 and two outs in the top of the second inning. Prior to the rain, Slade Heathcott opened up the series on Friday with a home run in the first at bat of the game. Heathcott drilled a two-strike pitch off of Reading RHP Tommy Bergjans. The homer flew off the yellow home run line in left centerfield and bounced back into play, resulting in an argument and ensuing ejection to Reading manager Gregg Legg. Squirrels righty Jose Flores worked a quick first inning for Richmond before a downpour of rain arrived in the second inning with two outs. The game was delayed at 7:32 p.m., and eventually called at 9:11 p.m. The Flying Squirrels announced today that the July 4 contest has been sold out. 16 Menez Masterful In 2-1 Giants Victory San Jose edges Modesto for fifth win in last six games MODESTO, CA - Conner Menez allowed just one run over a career-high eight innings in a 2-1 Giants victory over the Modesto Nuts on Friday evening at John Thurman Field. The seriesopening triumph was San Jose's (35-44 overall, 5-4 second half) fifth win in their last six games. Menez (6-3) surrendered just six hits during his masterful start to pick-up the win. The lefthander, who took a shutout into the eighth inning, walked two and struck out six. Dylan Rheault then pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth to earn his seventh save of the year. Stellar defense also carried the Giants late as left fielder Gio Brusa threw out the potential tying run at the plate in the bottom of the eighth before a spectacular catch from center fielder Ronnie Jebavywhile crashing into the wall in the ninth. The game then ended with catcher Aramis Garcia throwing out an attempted base stealer at second base. San Jose managed only five hits, but never trailed in the contest. The Giants scored a single run in the top of the second against Nuts starter Nathan Bannister to take an early 1-0 lead. Garcia led off the frame with a single before Brusa singled with one out. Then with two down, John Polonius grounded a single up the middle to bring home Garcia with the first run of the night. Meanwhile, Menez cruised through the first two innings before having to pitch out of a jam in the bottom of the third. Jordan Cowan doubled with one out for Modesto before promptly stealing third base. Braden Bishop was up next, but he struck out swinging on a pitch in the dirt. Garcia easily threw out Bishop at first on the play with Cowan breaking for the plate in an attempt to score the tying run. First baseman Dillon Dobson though fired the ball back home with Garcia tagging out the sliding Cowan to complete the unorthodox double play. Menez then tossed a bottom of the fourth before pitching around a pair of singles in the fifth to maintain the one-run advantage. In the top of the sixth, San Jose scratched across a run against Bannister to push their lead to 2-0. Jebavy led off with a single before stealing second. Ryan Howard then flied out to deep center advancing Jebavy to third. Bryan Reynolds was up next and his sharp grounder to second was mishandled by Chris Mariscal for an error with Jebavy coming home on the play. Reynolds was credited with an RBI as the lead was extended to 2-0. Menez then needed just five pitches to breeze through a perfect bottom of the sixth. In the seventh, Menez registered consecutive swinging strikeouts of Joey Curletta and Willie Argo to complete a inning. With the score still 2-0, Menez returned to the mound in the bottom of the eighth. Rayder Ascanioled off by drawing a walk before Arturo Nieto reached on an infield single to deep short. Cowan followed with a sacrifice bunt advancing the runners to second and third with one

17 out. Bishop then grounded a single into left to bring home Ascanio to trim the Giants lead to 2-1. Nieto, the potential tying run, also attempted to score on the play, but was thrown out by Brusa at the plate for the second out of the inning. Eric Filia then grounded out to second to end the inning. After San Jose was retired in the top of the ninth, Rheault (1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO) entered from the bullpen to begin the bottom of the inning. Mariscal led off with a deep fly ball to center that saw Jebavy sprint back to warning track and make a leaping catch as he crashed up against the wall for the first out. Gianfranco Wawoe was up next and he blooped a single into shallow right center to put the tying run on base. Rheault though came back to strikeout Curletta swinging with Garcia throwing out Wawoe, who was attempting to steal, at second on the strike three pitch for the game-ending double play. Bannister (3-5) suffered the loss after yielding two runs (both earned) over a season-high tying seven innings. He allowed four hits, walked none and struck out five. Notes * The Giants improved to 7-1 at John Thurman Field this season. * Menez lowered his ERA to ninth in the California League. He leads San Jose with six wins. Menez, who threw 87 pitches in his eight innings, matched the longest start by a Giants pitcher this season. * The Nuts out-hit San Jose 7-5. No Giants player finished with more than one hit. * Dobson (1-for-4) extended his hitting streak to eight games with a ninth-inning single. * San Jose has won their last two one-run games (6-13 overall). Modesto fell to 16-7 in one-run games (best record in league). * The Giants (5-4) have moved above.500 in the second half for the first time. * San Jose finishes June with a record (April 11-13, May 12-17). * Outfielder Steven Duggar was placed on the 7-day disabled list before the game. Infielder Junior Amion joined the Giants from Salem-Keizer (Short-Season).
