1 COLORADO ROCKIES (2-3) vs. SAN DIEGO PADRES (2-3) RHP Chad Bettis (0-0, 8.44) vs. RHP James Shields (0-1, 4.50) Game #6 / Home #3 Sunday, April 10, 2016 COLD HARD FACTS The Rockies have dropped their first two home games of 2016 to the San Diego Padres... surrendered 16 runs in last night s game, the first time the Rockies have allowed 16 or more runs since doing so at home against Arizona on June 4, The 13-run margin of defeat was the largest for the Rockies since losing 20-5 on May 26, 2008 at Philadelphia... it was their largest margin of defeat at Coors Field since losing 15-2 on May 13, 2007 vs. San Francisco. THEY GOT IT RIGHT The Rockies challenged three calls last night and all three were overturned... it was the first time in franchise history that the Rockies successfully challenged three calls... two of the challenges were in the fifth inning, which marked the first time that the Rockies successfully challenged two plays in one inning. THINGS WILL GET BETT-ER Chad Bettis will make his first home start of 2016 today... it will be his second start of the season after receiving no decision last Tuesday at Arizona (5.1 IP, 5 ER, 2 HR, 3 BB, 4 SO) in the Rockies 11-6 loss. In three career starts against San Diego, Bettis is 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA (14.0 IP, 4 ER), JUST EPIC Trevor Story hit two home runs Friday in his Coors Field debut. He hit two on Opening Day in Arizona in his Major-league debut, another on Tuesday, and another on Wednesday according to the Elias Sports Bureau, that makes him the only Major League player in history to hit home runs in his first four career games. The home runs in four games is the longest streak of games with a home run to begin a season in Rockies franchise history (previous: Charles Johnson, three-straight games with a home run to begin the 2004 season) and tied for the longest streak in Major League history (also: Chris Davis, 2013; Nelson Cruz, 2011; Mark McGwire, 1998; Willie Mays, 1971). He is the second Rockies player to hit at least one home run in his first two career games (also Todd Helton, Aug. 2-3), is the first player in Major League history to hit two home runs in a Major League debut on Opening Day, and just the fifth player in Major League history to hit two home runs in his Major League debut (last: J.P. Arencibia with Toronto, Aug. 7, 2010 vs. Tampa Bay). Story is the second shortstop in Major League history to record two home runs in his Major League debut (also: Bert Campaneris with the Kansas City Athletics, July 23, 1964 at Minnesota). Hit six home runs in 53 at-bats in Spring Training... recorded his sixth home run of the regular season in his 19th regular season at-bat. TREVOR, MEET E.Y. Trevor Story hit an RBI single in the second inning of Friday s game, his fifth career hit and his first that was not a home run. Recorded an RBI single in last night s game, and now has an RBI in all five career games... has 11 total RBI now, which leagues the Major Leagues. The six home runs over his first four games were as many or more home runs than 23 teams hit over that span. CROOKED NUMBERS The Rockies have hit for extra bases in 25 of their 49 hits (13 doubles, 12 home runs), and have a Major League leading.547 slugging percentage after their first five games. GEAUX DJ DJ LeMahieu has multiple hits in all five games to begin the season after going 2-for-4 with one run scored and one double last night. The five multi-hit games to begin a season is the longest such streak in Rockies history (previous: Larry Walker, four multi-hit games, 2001)... is now 10-for-19 (.526) on the season with seven runs, two doubles, two home runs and four RBI. NO RUST Carlos Gonzalez is 7-for-20 (.350) with three runs, one double, one home run and three RBI in his first five games. Made his seventh Opening Day start for the Rockies Monday, the most of any current member of the team, and went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, one home run and one RBI... in his seven Opening Day starts for Colorado, he is 16-for-34 (.471) with 10 runs, three doubles, three home runs, four RBI and two stolen bases... he has multiple hits in six of those games including each of his last four, and extrabase hits in his last six Opening Day starts... Gonzalez is now tied for the franchise lead in career Opening Day home runs at three (also: Vinny Castilla, Troy Tulowitzki, Larry Walker). NUT FOR A NIGHT Jon Gray will make a rehab appearance today for the Modesto Nuts (High-A)... he was originally scheduled to pitch last night, however the Nuts were rained out in Stockton... Gray began the season on the 15-day disabled list with abdominal strain. AS YOU CAN NOW SEE The Rockies announced March 1 that the Club will be installing higher outfield fences in two locations at Coors Field for the 2016 season The fence from the center-field end of the visiting bullpen, leading across the Rockies bullpen and ending at the manual out-of-town scoreboard (making it consistent with the current height of the top of the out-of-town scoreboard) will be raised eight feet, nine inches. Is 8-9 with a 4.56 ERA (158.0 IP, 80 ER) in 29 Major League starts 1-2 with a 9.09 ERA (31.2 IP, 32 ER) in 29 relief outings.
