Lead by Gerry Vye (3/3) and Del Patton (2/3), the Car Guys jumped to a 3-0 lead, then held a normally productive IMEC lineup scoreless for 6 innings. The Engineers finally made a bid to catch Joks with 3 lead off singles in the 7th, but even with the help of 2 additional walks, the rally fizzled well-short of the 5- run Joks lead. While Jok's 12 meager hits were enough to stop IMEC, IMEC had only 8 - their lowest hit total of the season. IMEC was led by sub Mike Albano who was 3/3. Ron Lewis Bill Kotopoulis 08/15/2018 Leathernecks - 12 Pine Street - 4 Fuller cooks the chefs In the first inning Wally Hedlund and Ted Theos had RBI singles put the Leathernecks ahead to a lead they would not relinquish. In the 2nd Jeff Fuller and Jeff Porter (4 for 4) had back-to-back bases loaded singles, but left the bases loaded. In the 4th, Pine Street's Rick Tessier's (3 for 3) single drove in a run, but Ted Theos wormed off the hook and left 2 runners on. The Leathernecks scored 3 in their 6th with key hits from their Octogenarians Dick Moushegian and Don Fusco, showing the young upstarts how it s done. In the 7th, Fuller and Theos had doubles to blow the game open. Jim Edwards was 4 for 4 for the cooks. Ted Theos Joe Martinoli
3 08/15/2018 Global - 9 Dr Dionne - 1 Chase powers Global over Dr. D Global's John Chase smashed a 2-run HR in the first. In the 2nd, Joe Martinoli and John Chase had key hits to make the score 5-0. Fred Toppis (3 for 3) started the 5th with a single and scored on Joe Martinoli's single. Joe Martinoli scattered 9 hits and had a shut-out into the 7th. Al Czernicki, Steve Archer and Steve Stitt had 2 hits for Dr. D. Global had 22 hits and each batter had at 1. John Chase Joe Martinoli Steve Stitt 08/15/2018 Calvary - 8 M&N - 12 M&N outslug Calvary M&N scored 3 in their 6th to take the lead. Calvary loaded the bases in their 7th but was only able to score 1 run. Both teams had trouble in the field. In Calvary's first inning, Don Kasper stroked a single to score 2 runs. In the bottom of the 1st, Kip Ferguson's triple keyed a 4-run comeback. In the 5th, Calvary exploded for 5 runs keyed on Rusty Schwarzenburg clutch 2 out double to clear the bases. In the bottom of the 6th, Harry Doutt (3 for 3) and Kip Ferguson (3 for 3) led off and scored. With 2 outs, Armand Robert got a key 2 out hit. In the 7th, Calvary's bottom of the line-up loaded the bases, but the top of the line couldn t buy a hit. Thom Riley Bob Lavoie This is the reason that I don t play third.
4 08/17/2018 Arts - 7 Leathernecks - 8 Leathernecks win squeaker The Leathernecks scored 5 in their 1st on 7 singles. Ted Theos and Harold Murphy had the key singles with the bases loaded. Art's Ken Rousseau had a 2 rbi single in the 2nd and when Ralph Murphy singled in the 3rd, the score was tied 5-5. Frank Willey doubled in the to put Art's up 6-5. That set up the Leatherneck's 3-run 6th, where Jeff Fuller Homered to lead off the inning then Ron Monteiro and Joe Richards got 2 out singles to put the Leathernecks up 8-6. Arts first 2 hitters in the 7th singled, but Art's was only able to plate one of them. Jeff Fuller Ted Theos Frank Willey 08/17/2018 M&N - 15 Pine Street - 6 M&N bang out 27 hits in rout Pine Street closed their regular season out with a one-sided shellacking. M&N started off with 4 runs first. The key hits were John Remillard's (5 for 5) triple and Thom Riley's (3 hits) 3-run HR, Joe Lamy's double drove in 2 runs for Pine Street on their half of the 1st. After a quiet 2nd and 3rd, M&N scored 4 in their 4th when Rick Tessier double and with 1 out John Remillard tripled. Rick Tessier (4 for 4) and Alan Ross had big singles in M&N's 5th, and the rout was on. Harry Doutt was 3 for 3 with a double. Rob Rich was 3 for 3 for Pine Street. Thom Riley Thom Riley Joe Martinoli 08/17/2018 Hansons - 8 Joks - 3 Hansons stun Joks Hanson scored first with two quick runs in the top of the 1st when their 1st two batters Greg Grote and Gary Johnson singled and later scored. Jok's quickly countered scoring three in the bottom of the 1st to take a 3-2 lead when their 1st three batters (Pete Olsen, Bob Lamontagne, and Gerry Vye) all got hits followed by Del Patton's Sacrifice Fly and Nick Fowler's two-out RBI single. However, that was the end of Jok's scoring as Hanson's pitcher Steve Molloy kept Jok's scoreless for the rest of the game despite several scoring opportunities. Hanson's tied the score in the 2nd and blew the game open with a 4-run 6th inning and adding another insurance run in the 7th. Jok's pitcher, Ron Lewis, led his team's offense going 3 for 3 while teammates Bob Lamontagne, Gerry Vye, and Nick Fowler each had two hits each. Sub Peter Monaco led Hanson's balanced attack with three hits and five other Hanson's players getting two hits each. Except for only two players, each Hanson's batter got on base at least twice. Steve Molloy Ron Lewis
5 08/17/2018 Calvary - 13 Dr Dionne - 9 Calvary explodes in the 7th for 7! With 2 outs in the 7th and trailing 8-6, Calvary had 9 straight men reach. Many key hits but the biggest was a bases loaded double by Bill Simmons. The shell-shocked hit 4 straight hits in their 7th and threatened to tie the score, but Steve Malloy retired the last 2 batters and left the bases loaded. Whew! Earlier in the game, Dr. D's Steve Archer, Gerry Vye and Frank Sommer had back-to-back-to-back triples, and how often do you see that? Steve Molloy Steve Stitt 08/20/2018 Calvary - 13 IMEC - 14 Frkanec's clutch hit beats Calvary Despite 2 5-run innings, Calvary could never quite keep IMEC from striking distance, and strike they did in the 6th inning. Up going into the 6th, Calvary added what was thought to be an insurance run, especially with the bottom half of the IMEC order due up. But with 1 run already in, and the bases jammed, Hank Frkanec delivered a long, clean single that drove in both the tying and go-ahead runs. Calvary was finished off in the 7th by a double play orchestrated by Mitch Milewski. IMEC's Sub, Dick Gillespie, and regulars Bob Beaver (3/3) and Skipper Geoff Geoffrion (3/3) were all perfect at the plate. Calvary, who out-hit IMEC was led by Rusty Schwarzenberg (4/4) with a double and a triple. 6 Some days you tame the tiger, and some days the tiger has you for lunch. - Tug McGraw What s the call Ump? Bottom of the 7 th, no one on, no one out. Abel is the scheduled batter. But the next scheduled batter, Baker, gets up and grounds a single to left field. What happens now? Who is the next batter and what happens to Abel? Both captains are looking at you. What s the call Ump? Abel is declared out. Once Baker completes his at-bat with either a hit, walk or out, Abel s at-bat is forfeited. If someone had noticed the wrong batter was at-bat, they could have substituted the correct batter with the assumed balls and strikes without penalty. Baker would have been able to follow in his proper batting slot without penalty. The correct next batter is whoever follows Baker in the line-up. Gary s big word of the week Circumspect - to think carefully before doing or saying anything, to avoid risks or consequences; cautious With his team trailing by 3 runs, Mike was circumspect to stay at second base on a single to outfield and not test the outfielder s arm.
