1 1. Team A has been playing with eight players, due to an injury, in the 2nd inning. Another player arrives and the coach wants to put him in the line up and return to nine players. This is not permitted. 2. The catcher's equipment is lying on the ground outside the dugout and a thrown ball rolls into the mask/helmet. Awards are made according to the umpire's judgment. 3. The pitcher cannot wear a batting glove under his glove, even though the umpire does not think it is distracting to the batter. 4. When there is no one on base, the plate umpire has fair/foul responsibility to the right field foul pole. 5. No outs and R1 on third. The pitch gets by the catcher and rolls to the screen. The pitcher covers home as R1 races in from third. The batter does not vacate the batter's box. The throw from the catcher to the pitcher covering home is high and the pitcher cannot make the catch. The batter is out for interference because he did not vacate the area when he had the opportunity, even though he did not interfere with the pitcher covering home. 6. Runners on second and third, the base umpire is in position B. 7. When obstruction occurs, it is a delayed dead ball. 8. B1, a right-handed batter, leaves the batter's box when the catcher feints a pick off throw to first. The batter is charged with a strike for leaving the batter's box. 9. A runner who is obstructed returning to a base is awarded only that base. 10. On all routine plays the base umpire will watch the batter-runner touch first and second base. 11. R1 is on first. The pitch is in the dirt and is blocked by the catcher. As the ball is rolling away the catcher removes his mask/helmet and uses it to stop the ball. R1 is awarded three bases. 12. With a runner on second, the plate umpire has the call at third if it is the second play in the infield. 13. The runner is out when he hurdles a fielder lying on the ground. 1

2 14. The base umpire is hit by a fair batted ball, after it has passed F3, while he is in foul territory in position A. The ball caroms back to F3 who fields the ball and touches first before the batter-runner arrives. When the ball hit the umpire the ball is immediately dead. 15. The umpire inadvertently calls "Foul Ball!" All runners return to the base they occupied at the time of the pitch. 16. When in position C, the base umpire watches the batter-runner touch first, second, and third. 17. Team A has only nine players when one of its players is injured in the third inning and cannot continue to play. Team A can continue playing with eight players. 18. It is a delayed dead ball when a coach physically assists a runner. 19. The plate umpire has the call on the batter-runner advancing to third on a bases empty triple. 20. In position C the base umpire has catch/no catch on fly balls to all infield positions. 21. The base umpire is responsible for the first play in the infield at all bases except home plate. 22. It is a delayed dead ball when the pitcher commits a balk. 23. When a foul tip is legally caught, the umpire should give a foul tip signal. 24. No one out and R1 on third, R2 on first. R2 breaks for second as the pitcher begins his stretch. Because R1 is on third, the pitcher continues his stretch ignoring R2. R2 reaches second and rounds the base as the pitcher comes to the set. The pitcher then delivers a legal pitch and the batter fouls the ball into the stands. R2 is allowed to remain at second. 25. Courtesy runners run for the position, not the player. 26. The hands are considered part of the bat. 27. The batter-runner must turn to his right after over-running first base. 2

3 28. If a batted ball hits the plate first it's a foul ball. 29. The batter can be called out for interference if he is in the batter's box. 30. The ball is dead on a foul-tip. 31. The batter who batted out of order is the person declared out. 32. The batter may not overrun first base when he gets a base-on-balls. 33. The batter is out if he starts for the dugout before going to first after a dropped third strike. 34. If the batter does not pull the bat out of the strike zone while in the bunting position, it's an automatic strike. 35. The batter is out if a bunted ball hits the ground and bounces back up and hits the bat while the batter is holding the bat. 36. The batter is out if his foot touches the plate. 37. The batter-runner is always out if he runs inside the running lane after a bunted ball. 38. Tie goes to the runner. 39. The runner gets the base he's going to, plus one on a ball thrown out-of-play. 40. Anytime a coach touches a runner, the runner is out. 41. The runner is always safe when hit by a batted ball while touching a base. 42. A runner may not steal on a foul-tip. 43. It is a force out when a runner is called out for not tagging up on a fly ball. 44. An appeal on a runner who missed a base cannot be a force out. 45. A runner is out if he runs out of the baseline to avoid a fielder who is fielding a batted ball. 46. Runners may not advance when an infield fly is called. 3

4 47. No run can score when a runner is called out for the third out for not tagging up. 48. If a player's feet are in fair territory when the ball is touched, it is a fair ball. 49. If a fielder holds a fly ball for 2 seconds it's a catch. 50. You must tag the base with your foot on a force out or appeal. 4
