LAST TIME OUT: Mississippi bats came through for seven runs on 16 hits Saturday to take down the Generals 7-3. Smith and Lipka led the way at the plate with three hits each. Smith tripled, stole two bases, scored twice, and made two diving catches in centerfield to lead the charge. With the game tied 3-3 in the fifth, Smith led off the inning with a triple, his first of the year, and came in on a Castro sacrifice fly to take the lead for good. The Braves (5-4) tacked on two more in the sixth with a two-run double from catcher Steve Rodriguez. Greg Ross (1-1) went five innings and allowed just three runs on four hits and two walks, giving the bullpen a well-deserved rest following Friday s 12-inning marathon. Recently promoted Waszak made his AA debut with two scoreless frames. Robinson (S, 1) pitched the final two innings to slam the door. Mississippi struck first in the opening frame. Smith led off with a single and stole his way around to third. With one out, KD Kang lined an RBI single to right for a 1-0 lead. The Generals (2-6) tied it in the bottom half with three straight two-out baserunners, topped off by a Guerrero RBI single. The Braves jumped back out in front with a two-run second. Seth Loman and Rohm hit back-to-back singles for men on the corners. A wild pitch plated Loman, and Rodriguez singled home Rohm for a 3-1 lead. Jackson kept hanging around, tying it again with a two-run third. Reinheimer led off the frame with a single and a steal of second, and second baseman Smith drove him home with a triple. Peterson hit a sacrifice fly to plate Smith and tie the game 3-3. Unsworth (0-2) allowed four runs on nine hits over five frames in the losing effort, striking out three and walking one. Shipers allowed two runs in two relief innings, and Hernandez allowed one more over two frames for the Generals. For good measure in the ninth, Castro singled for the Braves, stole second and came in on Kang s second RBI single of the day to make the final 7-3. LEAGUE LEADERS: David Rohm enters this five-game series with the seventh-best batting average in the Southern League (.417). Daniel Castro ranks ninth with a.389 average. Castro and Mallex Smith rank tied for second with two stolen bases.
