1 MEDIA INFORMATION Frederick Keys (31-42/ 0-4, 5th 4.0 GB / Northern) Carolina League Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles vs. Wilmington Blue Rocks (40-34/ 1-3, T-3rd, 3.0 GB/ Northern) Carolina League Affiliate of the Kansas City Royals Game No. 75 Road Game No. 41 Nymeo Field Monday, June 26, :00 p.m. BLUE ROCKS BREAKDOWN HOME: AWAY: STREAK: L 2 LAST 5: 2-3 LAST 10: 7-3 SALEM STIFLES THE ROCKS: It was a quiet day offensively for the Wilmington Blue Rocks who dropped their series finale to the Salem Red Sox by the score of 9-2 on Sunday at Haley Toyota Field. The Blue Crew were held to just four hits with an RBI double from Nicky Lopez and a solo home run from Brandon Downes generating all the runs. Wilmington dropped three of four to the Sox in their first series of the second half. The game ended a string of eight straight games against Salem, during which Wilmington went 5-3. THE FANTASTIC FRANCO: Wander Franco continues to be a run-producing machine for the Blue Crew. After driving in the go-ahead run in Friday s win, he added a double and a walk on Saturday and a single that eventually led to a run on Sunday. He has hits in nine consecutive games, while driving in eight runs over that stretch and hitting a robust.438 (15-for-32). He has five multi-hit games during the hitting streak and has also managed at least one knock in 21 of his last 24 contests. DOWN BUT NOT OUT: Despite being placed on the disabled list twice already this season, Brandon Downes has produced in the games he has played in. With his homer in Sunday s loss, Downes is now tied for third on the team with Roman Collins with five homers on the year. The second-year Blue Rock has played in just 13 games this season, but is hitting.271 with eight extra-base hits. Downes went on the disabled list in April with a broken hamate bone and then after returning for five games he went back on the disabled list with a bum hip in the last week of the first half. TONS OF TIGHT GAMES: The Blue Rocks have played in a Carolina League-high 30 one-run games so far in No other club in the ten-team loop has played in more than 25 single-score affairs. Incredibly for Wilmington, the Rocks are now in such contests thanks to having won 12 of their last 13. ROSTER REVOLUTION: The Blue Rocks endured a major roster overhaul after the game on Sunday. Wilmington lost four of the team s six Carolina League All Stars to promotion. Gone to Double-A Northwest Arkansas are Nicky Lopez, Anderson Miller, Richard Lovelady and Yunior Marte. Replacing them on the roster are returners Tim Hill and Luis Rico as well as newcomers Jose Sanchez and Carlos Diaz. THEY SAID IT, MANAGER JAMIE QUIRK: A.J. Puckett threw 60 pitches and that was enough. There was no reason to keep pushing it and he wasn t going to find it. We thought 60 pitches was too much. So we had to stop the bleeding and get him out even though it was the second inning. It makes it difficult (on using bullpen for long stretch in the game). (Walker) Sheller pitched a lot better than the numbers show on (Sunday). It was good to get him out there in sort of a non-stressful situation and he got to get some pitches in and settle in. I talked to him Saturday because when he got here, he was very excited to be in High-A and all of a sudden he had one bad outing and I saw a little bit of a droopy lip and all that, which is understandable. I just said to him that s not going to be the last bad day you re ever going to have in this sport. You re going to be back out there sooner than you think and it ll go better. He was a lot better (Sunday) throwing strikes. He imploded the other day and we all know that. It was good to see him bounce back...it s impressive what Downes is doing bouncing back from injuries the way he has. Now we need him to just stay healthy and finish this year out. If he does that, who knows where he can go. He s a guy we want to get going and hopefully he stays healthy. He needs to get some at-bats but his five home runs in his last 13 games is pretty darn good. That s an eye-opener... I look at it this way. Do the promotions change things? Yes, because we are getting four new guys. It gives other guys opportunities. Roles will change in the bullpen and guys are going to get opportunities that they wouldn t have gotten and we ll see how they react. That s the name of the game. Somebody else is going to get a chance to step up and it will be good for them. But for those four guys, it s great. That s what they play the game for, advance their careers and we are very happy for them...i haven t figured that out yet (on lineup configuration moving forward). Our lineup will look a little different on (Monday). (Jecksson) Flores will be playing a lot more shortstop now and it gives him an opportunity. We got (Brandon) Downes back, which helps with Anderson (Miller) leaving. Guys will be in different spots, different slots in the lineup. I have confidence that these guys will do well and will step up. (Wander) Franco is in a nice spot right now so he will be right in the middle things. It will be fun to see how they react. Tonight s Starters WIL : RHP Andres Machado (3-6, 5.40 ERA) vs. FRE : RHP Cody Sedlock (4-4, 6.10 ERA) The Kansas City Royals signed then 17-year-old Andres Machado as an international free agent out of Venezuela on November 17, Machado spent his first two professional seasons in the Dominican Summer League before coming to the states for two years in the Appalachian League with the Burlington Royals. His career was progressing at a good pace before an injury slowed his momentum in Machado underwent Tommy John Surgery, costing him the entire season. He returned in 2016 and made 13 starts for the Idaho Falls Chukars in the Pioneer League before starting his first year of full-season ball with Wilmington this April. Machado opened the campaign as a reliever, posting a 1-4 mark and a 4.15 ERA in 12 appearances out of the bullpen. The six-foot, 175-pound right-hander has plenty of experience in the rotation however, having started 29 of his 67 professional games. Machado took the rotation spot of 2014 first-round pick Foster Griffin, who was promoted to Double- A Northwest Arkansas on May 29. The Carabobo Venezuela native throws a four-seamer, a two-seamer, slider and changeup. Cody Sedlock gets the ball tonight for the Frederick Keys. It is his 13th start for Frederick and his second career nod against the Rocks. Sedlock is the second-ranked prospect in the Orioles organization according to Baseball America, not bad for a guy who started his collegiate career as a position player and did not crack the rotation at Illinois until his junior year. Sedlock set a school record with 116 strikeouts, and was named Big 10 Conference Pitcher of the Year and a First-Team All-American by Baseball America that season though. Sedlock compiled a 10-6 overall record with a 2.96 ERA in three years of college ball, fanning 175 in only 164 innings of work, on his way to becoming Illinois third ever first-round pick. He made his pro debut last season and posted an 0-1 record with a 3.00 ERA in nine outings with Rookie Aberdeen. To save his arm each start was limited to just three innings. Sedlock struck out four batters on four separate occasions and he allowed only one hit in six of his nine starts. The 21-year-old Sherrard, Illinois native mixes a four-seam fastball with a two-seamer, a curve, a slider and a change Regular-Season Series: WIL vs. FRE (WIL Leads Series 6-1) Date Site Result WP LP Save 5-12 WIL W, 2-1 Castillo (2-2) Sedlock (4-1) Marte (2) 5-13 WIL Postponed Make Up Scheduled for 5/ WIL W, 10-2 Griffin (3-2) Alvarado (2-3) 5-14 WIL W, 3-1 Ruxer (3-1) B. The Keys entered 2017 with a handful of the organization s top-30 prospects, headlined by Cody Sedlock who ranks as the second-best prospect on the farm. Sedlock has a fastball that consistently clocks in the low 90 s but he can gear it up to 97 m.p.h. He also has a curveball and slider that flash some potential. He spent his first pro-season in 2016 with Aberdeen (NYP) and went 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in nine starts. Mountcastle was the 36th overall pick in 2015 out of Hagerty High School in Oviedo, FL the same high school current Phillies starter Zach Eflin attended. Mountcastle was one of the youngest player s in the South Atlantic League a season ago and he held his own, posting a.281 batting average with 10 home runs and 51 RBI in 115 games. Akin enters his second professional season after spending last year with Short-Season Aberdeen in the New York- Penn League. He made nine starts and went 0-1 with a sterling 1.04 ERA. The lefty played at Western Michigan and helped pitch his team to its first NCAA tournament appearance since To this point, Frederick has the highest team batting average at.272, first in home runs (73) and fourth in runs scored (335) On the mound, the Keys have struggled and yield the highest team ERA in the Carolina League with a 5.01 ERA. The next closest mark is Down East at 4.63 ERA. In addition, the staff has served up the second-most home runs with 67. In addition, they have allowed the most runs per game in the CL, allowing opponents to score 5.2 runs per game. Last season, the Blue Rocks lost the head-to-head match up to the Keys as the two teams played 23 times a year ago. This season, the two familiar foes square off 26 times but with just seven of those contests being played in Wilmington. So far, Wilmington has enjoyed success against their Northern Division rivals winning six of the first seven mettings against the Keys, outscoring Frederick in that span.

3 TONIGHT S BLUE ROCKS STARTING PITCHER #39 RHP Andres Machado Acquired: Signed as non-drafted free agent on November, 17, 2010 Born: Carabobo, VZ Age: 24 (April 22, 1993) Resides: Carabobo, VZ Ht: 6 0 Wt: 175 College: N/A Bats/Throws: R/R Pitch Repertoire: Four-Seam Fastball, Two-Seam Fastball, Slider, Changeup THE BOOK ON ANDRES MACHADO: The Kansas City Royals signed then 17-year-old Andres Machado as an international free agent out of Venezuela on November 17, Machado spent his first two professional seasons in the Dominican Summer League before coming to the states for two years in the Appalachian League with the Burlington Royals. His career was progressing at a good pace before an injury slowed his momentum in Machado underwent Tommy John Surgery, costing him the entire season. Machado opened the campaign as a reliever, posting a 1-4 mark and a 4.15 ERA in 12 appearances out of the bullpen. The six-foot, 175-pound right-hander has plenty of experience in the rotation however, having started 29 of his 67 professional games. Machado took the rotation spot of 2014 first-round pick Foster Griffin, who was promoted to Double-A Northwest Arkansas on May 29. The Carabobo Venezuela native throws a four-seamer, a two-seamer, slider and changeup. LAST TIME OUT: Machado s last outing was his best start. On June 18 he allowed just one run on four hits over five frames against the Red Sox. The right-hander fanned a season-high seven and walked only one en route to a win in his final start of the first half. ROAD WARRIOR: Machado has spent majority of his time on visiting team s pitching mounds. The righty will be making his 12th appearance away from Frawley Stadium and all but one of his starts will have come on the road. In total, Machado is 1-3 with a 6.82 ERA in 111 appearances on the road. At home, the right-handed hurler has posted a 2-2 record with a 2.08 ERA in five appearances. BULLPEN TENURE: Machado started the season pitching out of the bullpen and even picked up his first professional save in the United States on April 16 against Potomac. It was his first save anywhere since he was in the Dominican Summer League in Machado s role varied as a reliever. He tossed three or more innings on three occasions, including two outings of 3.1 frames. He also worked one frame or less in four of his 12 appearances. RELIEVING: This transition is a little bit difficult because I started in the bullpen but now they moved me to the rotation. In spring training, I was looking to be a starter but they made me a reliever. I feel good though because I pitched as a Career Numbers starter the whole season last year in Idaho Falls. It s different because we come in relief against just Year/Teams(s) W-L ERA IP one or two hitters sometimes. Now I need to think of pitching in a very different style. When you start 2011/DSL Royals a game, you need to learn what the hitter is looking for. When you come in for relief for one hitter, you can throw a slider or something different and it works. As a starter, you have to face these hitters 2012/DSL Royals more than once. So you have to throw strike one, and you have to control your fastball to set other 2013/Burlington pitches up. It s more of a process. 2014/Burlington BIGGEST INFLUENCES ON ANDRES: When asked what pitcher had the biggest impact on 2015/DNP Due to Injury him, Machado did not hesitate even for a second. I enjoy watching Felix Hernandez of the Seattle Mariners, Machado said. He has very good stuff and he is a starter. I like him because he throws a 2016/Idaho Falls lot of strikes, has great stuff and also because his from Venezuela. 2017/Wilmington MACHADO ON TOMMY JOHN IN 2015: It was Tommy John surgery and it is one year that Total you re out and that you can t get back. They said it: Working with the coaches down in Spring Training and learning the game more. That s my game, speed and getting on and creating havoc on the bases. I told myself I had two pitches and then I m out...it took its own form (on 62-game on-base streak). I pretty much just rolled with it. I ended the season in Idaho and pretty much knew about my streak but when I started last season in Lexington I didn t even think about it. (On keeping streak alive) I think developing as a player each year and getting better each year helped... I think defense is the number one key to me. That helps wins games. I know hitting does too but if you have pitching and defense, that can help make a run in the playoffs...working with the coaches down in Spring Training and learning the game more. That s my game, speed and getting on and creating havoc on the base. I told myself I had two pitches and then I m out... I know Brandon Phillips doesn t really run like that but I compare myself to him. Jose Altuve as well. #15 Chris DeVito INF Ht: 6 2 Wt: 220 Age: 22 B/T: L/R Lives: Northridge, CA LG: 0-for-4, SO Road Trip:.353(6-for-17, 4R, 2B, 2RBI, BB, 2SO) Notes: Selected in the 8th round of the 2016 June MLB Amateur Draft out of the University of New Mexico. Hit.462 in six games. -Hit for the cycle on WS. First cycle in career and first in the CL this season. (4-for-5, HR) 2016 Notes: Spent the season with the Burlington Royals (Rookie/Appalachian League) -Hit.261 with nine home runs and 50 RBI in 60 games. Led the team in both HR and was ranked second in the league in RBI. They said it: (On what led to great success in Lexington to start the season) Honestly, my teammates. My first couple of games weren t very good and my teammates knew I could do it, they had my back and I couldn t have done it without my teammates and the great coaching staff we have down there... Just trying to be as consistent as possible (On what he worked on in the off-season). That s everyone s baseball goal, to be as consistent as possible...i actually know probably more guys here (in Wilmington) than I did at the beginning of the Lexington season so I m super excited. It s a great group of guys here...i loved that school (the University of New Mexico). Great school, great place to hit. Coach (Ray) Birmingham is a great head coach and knows what he is talking about with hitting. His support staff as well with Buddy Goldsmith, Ken (Jacome), the pitching coach, and Tony Cappuccilli were all great coaches and had great team environment there...(on moving from California to New Mexico) It is definitely different. It was the best place for me to go play baseball. My best friend from high school, Jared Holly, went to New Mexico first. He was a sophomore there my freshman year and he helped me in a lot of ways to make the transition easier...(on transition from catcher to first base.)...i absolutely love it. Catching is rough, I respect those guys for being back there. Those guys grind and put their bodies on the line. Being at first is definitely a lot easier on the body... Absolutely not, I ve never done that before (on hitting for the cycle). I was just super happy to get the win and happy to contribute. (If cycle was in his mind after the triple) A little bit, but not much. I know (triples) are incredibly hard to get and I m not a big triples guy. I was just happy to get it done early and didn t have to worry about it. I m mostly happy we got the win. #34 Roman Collins OF Ht: 6 2 Wt: 210 Age: 23 B/T: L/L Lives: Boca Raton, FL LG: 0-for-4 Road Trip:.278 (5-for-18, 3R, 2B, 3B, HR, 3RBI, 4SO) Notes: Drafted in the 5th Round of the 2015 June Amateur Draft by Kansas City out of Florida Atlantic Univ. Considered one of the best pure hitters in organization last season. Turned down opportunities to play college football. Father played football at West Virginia University Notes: Hit walk-off RBI double in 15th inning vs. BC on 6/8. -Had three-hit game on FRE. Third three-hit game of the season. -Had 13-game on-base streak end on 4/20 vs. WS. -The streak was tied as the longest on-base streak on the team with D.J. Burt and was the fourthlongest in Carolina League at the time. -Tied for third on the team with five home runs and second on team with 14 doubles. -Tied for fourth on team in runs (27). -Has posted a pair of eight-game hitting streaks this season. Posted two, nine-gamers in 2014 with Idaho Falls Notes: Spent the season between the Lexington Legends (Low-A/South Atlantic League) and Wilmington Blue Rocks (Adv. A/Carolina League). -Hit.242 with nine home runs and 41 RBI in 111 total games between the two teams. -Started the season with the Blue Rocks hitting.222/0/5 in 21 contests. -Played 90 games with the Legends and hit.246/9/36. -Collected three, four-hit games last year. -Hit.249 vs RHP and.213 vs LHP -Hit.275 on the road (208 ABs) and.207 at home (218 ABs) -Spent the winter in the Australian Winter League with the Melbourne Aces and ranked among league s leaders in total bases (tied for second), batting average (third), hits (third) and runs (tied for fourth) Notes: Spent the season with the Idaho Falls Chukars (Rookie/Pioneer League) -Hit.292 with four home runs and 45 RBI in 68 games. -Ranked tied for fourth among Pioneer League batters in walks (36) during his pro debut. -Finished third on the Chukars in hits (78), second in doubles (18) and fourth in triples (6). -Was the second toughest batter to strike out in the league (every 9.03 at-bats). They said it: I had a blast in Australia. We ended up having a really good team and really good group of guys down in Melbourne, Australia. I had a really good time and got a lot better and made improvements... Living there was actually not as different as I thought it would be. There s a lot of US pop culture there so that wasn t much different. As far as baseball, there was actually a big difference. There s a lot of Japanese guys there so the style of play, especially the pitching is a lot different. There s a lot more splitters than change ups and I also saw a lot more soft throwing lefties which helped me out a lot... I played football growing up and I actually almost ended up playing football in college instead of baseball. I had a few more opportunities in football than baseball but baseball has always been my passion and it ended up working out... Definitely the fans. We have a good group of fans here and they like to come out and watch. I like it here. #7 Carlos Diaz INF Ht: 5 8 Wt: 145 Age: 24 B/T: S/R Lives: Carabobo, VZ LG: Road Trip: Notes: Signed as a non-drafted free agent on September 18, 2012 by the Kansas City Royals Notes: Started the season with Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Double-A/Texas League) and Omaha Storm Chasers (Triple-A/Pacific Coast League) -Has hit a composite.222 at the two stops in 24 games. -In 21 games in Double-A he hit.200 with a double and five RBI. -In just three games in Triple-A he went 2-for-4. -Returns to Wilmington for second stint with the Blue Rocks Notes: Spent the season at three different levels including Wilmington, Northwest Arkansas and Omaha. -Hit.270 with eight doubles, 10 RBI and stole four bases in 73 total games. -With Wilmington hit.241 with seven doubles and drove in nine runs in 50 games. -Played in 17 games with Double-A Northwest Arkansas and hit.279 (12-for-43) -First stint in Triple-A Omaha he went 2-for-15 (.133) in six games Notes: Spent the season with the Royals (Rookie/Arizona League) and Idaho Falls Chukars (Rookie/Pioneer League) -Hit.293 between the two stops including.301 in 30 games in the Arizona League.

(5-for-5 3 2B, 3B, RBI) 2014: Spent the season with the Idaho Falls Chukars (Rookie/Pioneer League) -Hit.308 with three home runs and 23 RBI in 41 games. Finished fifth on the team with 13 doubles. They said it: I definitely think it will be a good adjustment for me. I went through the whole first year struggling a little bit. I know the stadiums, the teams, maybe some of the same players are coming back. I think it gives me a little bit of an edge on other guys in the league. I m excited...honestly I went in there carefree. If I get out, it s supposed to happen because I m the guy from A-Ball so I took it the right way. I just went out there and felt comfortable and enjoyed myself. I honestly had no pressure on myself and that s the way I should play here too which is what I m going to try to do. It was enjoyable... The postgame spread was unbelievable. You get big leaguers buying the spread and it is steak and lobster for dinner which was very awesome. The field was incredible. There was a ton more fans I m not saying we have a bad fan base, but it s a step away from the big leagues and kids are going crazy for you. It was cool to be around older guys who have been there or guys that are close to being there. The league itself was very cool. I met one of my teammates from Virginia, Chris Taylor, he got traded to the Dodgers and we were playing them during the six games I was there and it was good to see him. It s a whole different atmosphere. There s 35-year-old guys pitching to you and you do one thing wrong and they know what that weakness it, they can repeatedly make that pitch so it definitely was a big jump but definitely awesome...it s definitely a big thing (playing near hometown). There s a lot of ups and downs, especially if you get homesick, which I haven t gotten that much in my career so far. It s definitely a blessing to have your family come out. #4 Jecksson Flores OF Ht:5 11 Wt: 145 Age: 23 B/T: R/R Lives: Cuidad Bolivar, VZ LG: 0-for-3, SO Road Trip: 4-for-9, RBI, SO, 2 SAC, SO Notes: Signed as non-drafted Free Agent by Kansas City on July 21, Notes: Posted first 3 RBI game on 6/18 (G2 vs. SAL) since 7/4/16. -Leads CL in sacrifice hits (11) -Swatted his first-career Class-A Adv. (250 innings) -Threw out 28% of would-be base stealers Notes: Spent the season with the Royals (Rookie/Arizona League) and hit.250 with five RBI in 27 games. Made just one error behind the plate. They said it: I would say definitely attitude was huge for me. Learning how to take each at-bat at a time and move forward from the negative things and take the positives of each at-bat and that s helped me relax at the plate... No. Absolutely not. I never had seven RBIs before. It was really cool. I guess the coolest thing about it was that I had no idea how many RBIs I had until the game was over and my teammates were telling me. I think that s the only reason why it happened. If I went in to each at-bat saying I already have four, let me get another one RBI, it wouldn t have happened for me and messed with my attitude. I don t think it would ve been as successful as a game... I think that s the reason why I m here. I really pride myself on defense. I try to come out every day to run a pitching staff, keep the ball in front of me and not let runners advance. I think that s what I pride myself on the most... I don t have a specific catcher. I can give you one guy. I was a big Jorge Posada fan of the New York Yankees. Just the way he was so agile behind the plate and lanky. He wasn t a big stocky dude because I m not like that either, but I liked the way he moved behind the plate for sure... Definitely an energizer bunny for these guys, I think I provide a lot of energy on the field, in the bullpen or the clubhouse. Someone that can provide energy day in and day out because we all know the season can get long. #37 Colton Frabasilio [frah-ba-silly-o] C/1B Ht: 6 2 Wt: 205 Age: 24 B/T: R/R Lives: Chandler, AZ LG: 0-for-4 Road Trip: Notes:Selected in the 23rd round of the 2015 June MLB Amateur Draft by Kansas City out of St. Louis University. 2017: Picked up his second multi-hit game of the season on 5/29 vs. POT -Cranked a solo home run in his first at-bat of the season vs. POT on 4/8. -Added to the roster on 5/6 after being placed on the DL Notes: Spent the season with the Idaho Falls Chukars (Rookie/Pioneer League), the Lexington Legends (Low-A/South Atlantic League) and the Wilmington Blue Rocks (Adv. They said it: Catching you have to prepare differently from first base because catching comes first when you re playing.. with catching the pitching staff and your defense comes first... I was looking forward to seeing a little bit better competition and just trying to improve my game. Seeing how I compete against upper level competition, which is what we as players want to do because that s how you get better as a player. It was a welcomed change for my career.
