2 Head Coaches Glens Falls: John Mayotte John Mayotte is the only head coach in the nine-year history of the Glens Falls Golden Eagles. The veteran manager has won over 1300 games in his illustrious coaching career; more than 200 of those wins have come at the helm of the Golden Eagles. He has guided the team to seven playoff appearances in nine seasons and 2012 will be the third time the team has played for a league championship. The Golden Eagles have had just two losing seasons in nine years and they have not missed the playoffs since Mayotte s teams have garnered four 30-win seasons. He was named the NYCBL s Coach of the Year in At the collegiate level he was the head coach at both Eckerd (Fla.) and Troy State. He has also coached in the Cape Cod League. It s you, again?! Amsterdam and Glens Falls are fairly familiar with one another. This will be the fifth playoff series between the two teams in the last five years and the sixth in nine seasons. Read more about the all-time series on the next page. Amsterdam:Titletown: Amsterdam is attempting to win its sixth summer collegiate baseball championship. The Mohawks won summer league crowns in 1988, 2003, 2004, 2009 and Overall, Amsterdam is making its 18th trip to the postseason and 11th in the last 12 seasons. While the Tribe fell in the league finals to Newark last year, Amsterdam is 15-2 in the league playoffs under Keith Griffin and that includes a 15-game winning streak. Amsterdam s five summer baseball titles lead all PGCBL teams; the next closest to Amsterdam is Oneonta with two. Four of the five titles have been won since the team moved to Shuttleworth Park. Streak Snapped: Heading into the first ever PGCBLCS last year, the Mohawks had won 14 playoff games in a row and had not lost a postseason tilt since 2008 to Glens Falls. Amsterdam opened the finals with a win at Newark. However, it was the Pilots that won both ends of a doubleheader at Shuttleworth Park the following night to capture the league championship. #Winning: Amsterdam and Glens Falls are the two winningest franchises in the PGCBL and in Upstate New York summer collegiate baseball. Over the last two seasons, Amsterdam has accumulated a (.691) record while Glens Falls has posted a (.610) mark. In two PGCBL seasons, neither team has won fewer than 27 games. Since the Golden Eagles were born in 2004, the two teams have combined for eight division titles, 15 playoff appearances and seven 30-win seasons. Path to the Pros: Not only have the Mohawks and Eagles been successful in the win/loss column, but also in sending players on to professional baseball. Currently, there are 60 former Mohawks and Golden Eagles in the professional ranks; that breaks down to 33 Mohawks and 27 Golden Eagles. Overall, Amsterdam and Glens Falls have sent 190 former players on to professional baseball. Amsterdam, Nationally Speaking: The Amsterdam Mohawks have spent the entire season in Perfect Game s Summer Top 30 rankings. In the most recent rankings, released yesterday, Amsterdam was sixth. The Mohawks began the summer listed 15th in the national rankings the first poll came out on June 20. Keith Griffin s team moved into the top 10 when the calendar turned to July. Amsterdam has since remained in the top 10 and went as high as number three in the rankings in two separate weeks. Amsterdam spent four consecutive weeks in the national top five. Currently, the Mohawks are behind Cotuit and Harwich of the Cape Cod League, Newport of the New England League, Wisconsin from the Northwoods and Edenton of the Coastal Plain League. Man Down: Both Amsterdam and Glens Falls head into the Championship Series missing several key parts. Amsterdam head coach Keith Griffin lost six starters as the year went along including Evan Stephens (Wake Forest), Chase Green (SIU Edwardsville), Jeff Boehm (Kentucky), Nathan Gomez (Marshall), Demarcus Henderson (Miss. State) and Thomas Bernal (Kentucky). The Mohawks are also without starting pitchers Rocky McCord (Auburn), Matt Pirro (Wake Forest) and Matt Gage (Siena). Glens Falls has spent the last two weeks without PGCBL batting champion Ross Kivett (Kansas State). Overall, Glens Falls has lost 12 players including starting pitcher Brandon Magallones (Northwestern) and closer Jared Cheek (Ga. Southern). Leiting The Way: Amsterdam s Mark Leiter Jr. (NJIT) is the lone returning player for the Mohawks to compete in last year s playoffs. Leiter earned the victory in Game 1 of the 2011 PGCBLCS at Newark. Earlier this season, Leiter recorded his 100th strikeout as a Mohawk. He is the PGCBL s all-time strikeout leader. Monday, Leiter pitched Amsterdam into the 2012 PGCBLCS. He tied a career high with 13 strikeouts in a complete game two-hitter against Mohawk Valley. Leiter finished his Amsterdam career with a 2-0 postseason record and nine overall victories. Hey, Is He Related To That Guy? Short answer, yes. Amsterdam s Mark Leiter Jr. (NJIT) is the son of former Major League Baseball pitcher Mark Leiter. The elder Leiter was a fourth-round pick of the Baltimore Orioles in 1983 and went on to an 11-year Major League career that included stops with eight different clubs. Mark s uncle, Al, won two World Series championships with the Toronto Blue Jays (1993) and the Florida Marlins (1997). Al Leiter spent 19 years in the Major Leagues after being a second-round pick of the New York Yankees in Al currently works for the YES Network. Nethaway Getting His Chance: Josh Nethaway (UAlbany) is in his second season with the Mohawks. In two seasons with the Tribe, he has driven in 53 runs. However, Nethaway missed the playoffs last year due to injury. After a rocky start against Mohawk Valley in Game 1 on Friday, he was removed mid at-bat for a pinch hitter. The former high school quarterback made his mark in Game 2 versus the Dawgs. Nethaway slugged a pivotal three-run home run in Game 2 and finished the night with four RBI in a 10-1 win. The Maine Event: Mainers Scott Heath (Maine) and Matt MacDowell (Dartmouth) have provided several key hits down the stretch for the Mohawks. Heath, a southpaw pitcher/outfielder from Westbrook, served as the Tribe s designated hitter against Mohawk Valley. The 2011 Gatorade Maine Player of the Year had at least one hit or one run in all three games of the MV series. Heath just missed hitting a three-run home run in the first inning of Game 3 on Monday. MacDowell, from Falmouth, has been a back-up catcher for Amsterdam. He entered as a pinch hitter in Game 1 of the MV series with a 1-2 count with the bases loaded and was hit by a pitch to force home a run. In Game 2, MacDowell slammed a three-run double and caught a combined three-hitter from Chandler Shepherd (Kentucky), Denis Buckley (HVCC) and Chris Kalica (Fairfield). Small Ball In, Long Ball, Out: Amsterdam topped the PGCBL in home runs one year ago with 37 and the Mohawks clobbered their way to the top of the league in long balls in 2008, 2009 and Last year, Amsterdam scored 259 runs, smacked 37 home runs, walked 147 times and stole just 39 bases. This season, Amsterdam hit just 21 home runs but scored 311 runs. The Mohawks drew 189 walks and stole 81 bases. Last year s co-team leaders in home runs, Jude Vidrine (Lamar) and Luke Maile (Kentucky) each belted eight bombs while 2012 dinger leader Ed Charlton (NJIT) hit seven. No other Mohawk hit more than three home runs.

The Mohawks went 18-6 at home during the regular season while the Golden Eagles were 17-6 at East Field. Amsterdam enters the PGCBLCS with a 19-7 home mark while Glens Falls has an 18-6 record at East Field. Road Warriors: While Amsterdam boasted the best home record in the league, the Mohawks were also the best team away from home. Amsterdam has gone 18-6 in 24 overall road games; 17-6 in the regular season. At one point, Amsterdam won 14 straight on the road. It should be noted however that the Mohawks went winless at East Field in three attempts. Big Ed: It s not very often that you see a lead-off batter first on a team in home runs and runs batted in. However, Amsterdam s Ed Charlton (NJIT) did just that during the regular season. Charlton topped the Mohawks with seven belts and 30 RBI. Six of his seven home runs came in the month of June before he missed several weeks with an upper body injury. Around the time off, Charlton set a league and franchise record with a 26-game hitting streak. Charlton s.590 slugging percentage was first in the PGCBL.

5 Zak Attack, Take II: Last year, it was Zach Shank (Marist) as the top hit man for the Mohawks. This season, that honor was held by utility man Zak Colby (Faulkner). Colby finished second in the league batting race (.375) and he led the Mohawks in overall hits (57) and doubles (19). Colby tied for the team lead in runs scored (31) and walks (24). His 57 hits were one shy of tying Shank s team record from Colby played several different positions including second base, third base and catcher. He committed only four errors in 267 defensive chances for a.985 fielding percentage. Walk-Off Winners: The Mohawks and Golden Eagles combined for four walk-off victories this season. Amsterdam s Zak Colby (Faulkner) had a pair of walk-off knocks in wins over Mohawk Valley at Shuttleworth Park. In the final 2.5 weeks of the season, the Mohawks and Golden Eagles exchanged walk-off wins. Glens Falls rallied for a 7-6 victory over Amsterdam on July 16 at East Field behind a walk-off double from Chase Griffin (Ga. Southern). Almost two weeks later, Giuseppe Papaccio (Seton Hall) cued a walk-off infield single that ended an 11-inning marathon in favor of the Mohawks at Shuttleworth Park. Wealth of Pitching: Pitching never seemed to be an issue for the Mohawks during the 2012 regular season. Starters Chandler Shepherd (Kentucky), Rocky McCord (Auburn), Mark Leiter Jr. (NJIT) and Matt Pirro (Wake Forest) combined for a 18-1 record. Shepherd led the league in wins and earned run average while he tied for the team lead in strikeouts with McCord, each had 50. The foursome, all selected to the PGCBL All-Star Game, combined for a 1.73 earned run average in innings and 154 strikeouts. In the opening round of the playoffs which included three games, the trio of Shepherd, Leiter and McCord combined to allow three runs on 10 hits in 23 innings and strike out 24. All three lasted at least seven innings and Mark Leiter Jr. tied his own career high with 13 strikeouts. Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner: Jeff Limbaugh (Parkland) has hit three home runs for the Amsterdam Mohawks. All three have been game-winning home runs. Against Watertown on July 12, Limbaugh broke a 5-5 tie with a three-run home run in an 8-5 win. Nearly three weeks later on July 29, Limbaugh slammed a two-run home run that broke a 2-2 tie in a 5-3 win at Mohawk Valley. The following night versus Albany, Limbaugh smacked a solo home run in a 1-0 win at Shuttleworth Park. The first baseman from Crown Point, Ind., will attend Wright State University this fall. Shut Out Central: Amsterdam led the PGCBL with five shutouts this season. Over the last two years, Amsterdam has won nine games via shutout. Most impressive is that three of the shutout victories came on the road at Albany, Mohawk Valley and Watertown. Amsterdam shut out Albany twice at Shuttleworth Park. Familiar Faces: The University of Albany will be represented by both teams in the PGCBL Championship Series. The Mohawks and Golden Eagles boast three combined players from the Great Danes. Amsterdam features utility men Josh Nethaway and D.J. Hoagboon while Glens Falls has pitcher Joey Moore. The Longest Yard: Amsterdam was involved in the two longest games in PGCBL history earlier this season. The Mohawks and the Cooperstown Hawkeyes played a 14-inning marathon in the first five days of the season. Amsterdam and Cooperstown began their game on June 6 and had it suspended due to darkness after 11 innings with the score tied 2-2. Three more innings were played when the game was completed on June 10 which Cooperstown won 4-3 in 14 frames. Three days later, Amsterdam broke the just-set league record with a 15-inning contest against Oneonta at Damaschke Field. Amsterdam triumphed 5-4. Top Guns: Amsterdam and Glens Falls may have featured the two best players in the PGCBL in Glens Falls had Ross Kivett (Kansas State), the league batting champion (.401), who also topped the circuit in hits (61), on-base percentage (.497) and stolen bases (37). Amsterdam s Chandler Shepherd (Kentucky) paced the league in opponents batting average (.154) and tied for the league lead in victories (seven) and earned run average (1.31). Grand Slam: Casey Rodrigue (LSU Eunice) of Glens Falls hit the second grand slam in PGCBL playoff history on Saturday night in a win over the Newark Pilots. Rodrigue s blast tied the game at eight and Glens Falls went on to win It was the first PGCBL grand slam in two seasons for the Green and Gold. Both playoff grand slams have been hit against the Newark Pilots; one by Glens Falls and another by Cooperstown (2011). Amsterdam s Chase Williamson (Auburn) also mashed a grand slam this year. Unstoppable Offense: Glens Falls led the PGCBL in batting average (.298) and total runs scored (318) during the regular season. Nine players had at least 10 RBI, nine scored at least 10 runs and 12 recorded 10 or more hits. In addition, nine different Golden Eagles hit at least one home run which led the league. Glens Falls tied with Amsterdam for second in the league in long balls with 21. Six Eagles batted at least.300 and nine logged a.250 batting average or better. Casey at the Bat: Casey Rodrigue won an NJCAA Division II championship in the spring with the Bengals of LSU Eunice. Rodrigue, a starter for the Bayou Bengals, was named to the Division II World Series All-Tournament team. Rodrigue is looking to record a double of a college championship and a summer collegiate title in the same year. The Destrehan, La., native leads the Golden Eagles in playoff batting average. He finished the regular season second on the team in hitting (.347). Plugging the Leaks: In the opening round of the playoffs, the Glens Falls bullpen was the difference against Newark. Relievers Neil Fryer (Siena), Jordan Keysor (Skidmore) and Jake Doller (Kansas State) did not allow an earned run in 11.0 combined innings. Local products Fryer (Greenwich) and Keysor (Cadyville) each tossed five scoreless innings to earn victories in relief; they combined for 14 strikeouts of Newark hitters. Iron Men: Mike Vigliarolo (Saint Louis) and Chase Griffin (Ga. Southern) played and started 46 of Glens Falls 47 games during the regular season. Alberto Morales (Clarendon) and Danny Brennan (Saint Louis) each played and started 45 games. Young Lions: Chase Griffin was a Freshman All-American in the spring at Georgia Southern. He was also the unanimous choice as the Southern Conference s Freshman of the Year. Mike Vigliarolo was the starting first baseman for the Atlantic 10 regular season champion Billikens of Saint Louis Billikens. Both have played a significant role for the Golden Eagles this summer. Griffin split time between catcher and designated hitter. He led the team during the regular season with four home runs. Griffin batted.304 with 34 RBI, 55 hits, 36 runs scored and 11 doubles. He also threw out 11 runners attempting to steal. Vigliarolo was a constant at first base while also playing some designated hitter. He committed just three errors in 331 chances for a.991 fielding percentage. At the plate, he led the team with 37 RBI and batted.316 with 60 hits, 13 doubles, three home runs and 30 runs scored.

6 Pacific Northwest Connection: John Mayotte has had success over the years bringing players from the Pacific Northwest, namely, Washington, to Glens Falls. This year is no exception. Kevin Meyers (NE Okla. A&M), from Tacoma, hit the winning two-run home run in Game 2 against Newark on Saturday night. Meyers appeared in 41 games for the Eagles during the regular season and drove in 28 runs. Starting pitcher Tayler Saucedo (Tacoma C.C.), out of Maple Valley, led the team in victories (four) and strikeouts (45). Lefty reliever Ryan Skoubo (Tacoma C.C.) went 2-2 with two saves and a 2.76 ERA in 11 appearances. Skoubo s ERA was the lowest among Glens Falls relievers at the end of the regular season. Back For More: Pitcher Neil Fryer (Siena) and infielder Anthony Pisani (Southern Maine) are two Golden Eagles back from the 2011 Glens Falls squad. Fryer, who tossed five scoreless frames against Newark on Saturday night, has spent the last two summers in Glens Falls as a starting pitcher. He has earned seven wins with the Eagles in two seasons. Pisani, the starting shortstop for the Green and Gold in 2012, served in that same capacity last summer. Pisani hit.215 and drove in 11 runs in 44 games in A mid-season acquisition this summer, the senior from USM has a.271 batting average and seven RBI for the Golden Eagles in 16 games. The Maine Event, Take II: The 2012 PGCBL Championship Series runs through the southern portion of Maine, sort of. Amsterdam s Matt MacDowell, from Falmouth, Maine, his uncle is Ed Flaherty, the head baseball coach at the University of Southern Maine. One of Flaherty s players is Glens Falls shortstop Anthony Pisani. Southern Maine has also sent several players to Glens Falls over the last two years. MacDowell s cousins, Ryan and Regan Flaherty, both played baseball at Vanderbilt. Ryan Flaherty was a first round selection of the Cubs in We re Going Streaking: Both Amsterdam and Glens Falls have put together several winning streaks this summer. Amsterdam had separate winning streaks of nine games and 10 games during the month of June. The 10-game streak was ended by Glens Falls and the nine-game streak by Cooperstown. The Mohawks had a pair of three-game win streaks in July as well as a five-game win streak. The Eagles are on a six-game winning streak that dates back to the regular season; Glens Falls hasn t lost since dropping a doubleheader to Amsterdam on July 27. The Eagles also recorded a five-game winning streak, a four-game win streak and two threegame win streaks. Silent Assassin: League batting champ Ross Kivett (Kansas State) departed for a pre-planned trip to the Olympics just after the PGCBL All-Star Game. One week later, Danny Brennan (Saint Louis), who was not one of Glens Falls all-star selections, earned the final PGCBL Player of the Week award. Silently, the center fielder has been one of the top hitters for the Eagles. Brennan hit.310 with two home runs and 28 RBI during the regular season. He rolled up 58 hits, 11 doubles, three triples and scored 38 runs. Brennan also swiped 11 bases. Playoff Excitement: For the second year in a row, the PGCBL playoffs have excelled in the realm of excitement. Of the five games in the first round, four were decided by two runs or less.
