4 This & That HAPPY BIRTHDAY DREW--Kansas City catcher Drew Butera is celebrating his 34th birthday today...now in his eighth big league season, Butera shares his birthday with the likes of actresses Anna Kendrick (32) and Melanie Griffith (60), football s Deion Sanders (50) and baseball brethren Jason Heyward (28), the father of the Chiefs new QB and former big league pitcher Pat Mahomes (47) and a trio of alumni of our hosts here in St. Louis, Matt Morris (43), Julian Javier (81) and Ted Simmons (68). STILL GOING--Kansas City s energizer bunny, Alcides Escobar, has made a club-record 283 consecutive starts at shortstop dating back to September 26, 2015, the longest active streak in the Majors, according to the Elias Sports Bureau...by starting tonight, Esky will tie Baltimore s Miguel Tejada with 284 consecutive starts from April 4, 2004 through August 20, 2005, as the last Major League team to have the same starting shortstop in that many consecutive games...should Esky get to 285 tomorrow, he will have the longest such streak since Cal Ripken started 2,216 consecutive games at short for the Orioles from 1982 to HOMERLESS LAST NIGHT--All three Kansas City runs last night came on one swing of the bat by Cheslor Cuthbert, who doubled with the bases loaded, just a night after all three Royal tallies on Monday were via the solo homer...kc has hit eight roundtrippers in the last four games and has hit 42 in the last 31 contests...with 140 home runs through the first 112 games, the Royals are on a pace for 202 roundtrippers this year, which would demolish previous single-season record of 168 in ANOTHER ROUGH PATCH--The year known as The Streak continues as now the Royals are in the midst of a stretch in which they ve dropped eight of 11 after winning a season high nine in a row from July the year began with KC going in the first 30 affairs, including a 9-game losing streak toward the end of April...then from May 8 in Tampa Bay until June 9 in San Diego, the Royals played around the.500 mark, going before turning it up a notch in the middle game of a visit to Petco Park...from June 10-July 30, Kansas City was 29-14, the second best record in the Majors in that span to only the Dodgers, who tore through baseball with a 37-6 mark...despite the last 11 dates, Kansas City s record since June 1 is the second best mark in the Majors to the Dodgers ledger...in that span, the Royals have gone 11-5 with three splits in the 19 series played...since the start of the 2014 season, Kansas City and Baltimore are tied for the most wins in the American League with 322. MOOSE CLOSING IN--One of the most talked about records in franchise history is Steve Balboni s 36 home runs in 1985, which still stands today as the most in franchise history...if Mike Moustakas has anything to say about it, that record will fall in Moose clubbed his 32nd home run of the year on Monday night, second in as many days, to pull to within four of the coveted mark...moustakas enters play tonight on a pace for 46 blasts, which would shatter Balboni s 32-year mark... Moose s 32 home runs are the most by a Royal since Jermaine Dye finished the 2000 season with 33...Moustakas is now second in the A.L. home run chase behind the Yankees Aaron Judge (35)...Moose is second in the American League in road home runs with 18, two behind Tampa Bay s Logan Morrison. HOME & ROAD WORK--With last night s loss, Kansas City is 7-4 in its last 11 home games and is now in The K...as for road work, after a rocky 2-11 start to road action this year, the Royals have played at a.575 clip (23-17) away from home since May 8, the second best road record in the Majors in that span (Houston 29-10)...KC went 5-4 on the last road trip, but it was a bittersweet 5-4, going 5-1 through Detroit and Boston to open the journey before losing all three games in Baltimore to close it out. THE BEST IN LEATHER--The Royals were guilty of an error last night giving them seven in the last 17 games while they continue to pace Major League baseball with only 46 errors on the year...miami is next in the Majors with 49, while the Twins, Tribe and Angels all have the second fewest in the American League with 57...the Royals are currently on a pace to shatter the franchise record for fewest errors in a season, with the 162-game club mark of 85 set in the 1981 and 1994 squads had lower error totals of 72 and 80, respectively, but each were recorded in strike-shortened seasons...at the current pace this year, KC would commit just 66 errors. FAMILIAR VIEW FROM ABOVE--The Royals hit the road still in possession of the #1 television rating among all Major League clubs, holding an 8.5 household rating this year on FOX Sports Kansas City...KC has led the Majors in TV ratings in each of the last two seasons leading up to last night s game on FS 1 carried a 9.0 household rating in Kansas City, while Monday s game on FSKC recorded a 12.5 MOYLO STREAK HALTED--Reliever Peter Moylan left a runner aboard when he departed in the eighth inning on Monday night and that runner eventually crossed the plate for the first earned runs charged to him since June 25 vs. Toronto...in that span, he has now allowed one earned run in 16.2 innings for a 0.54 ERA, while holding opposing hitters to a collective.105 mark (6-for-57)...the inventor of the Sledge-iatto has inherited more runners than any reliever in the Majors (47). DUPE S #1--KC replay specialist Bill Duplissea has not been tested since July 29 in Fenway Park and after a lengthy delay it was determined there wasn t enough evidence to overturn the call...duper is 16-for-22 for a 73% success rate, the only Major League replay reviewer with a percentage above 70%...Bill closed 2016 as the best in baseball at his craft with a 69.2% success rate, making good on 27 of 39 challenges, with the Mets next at 67.7% (21-for-31). AT THE HELM--The winningest manager in franchise history, Ned Yost is in his seventh full season with the club, taking the reins on May 13, he enters tonight a game over.500 with a record with Kansas City, which is a big accomplishment considering he had a mark in his first two+ seasons in charge, but is since (.537)...his win total has shattered Whitey Herzog s previous team mark of 410 wins ( )...Yost is the 16th full-time manager in franchise history and is seventh among active managers is games (2,170) and wins (1,063)...his postseason record of 22-9 represents a.710 winning pct., which is tops among all managers who have been at the helm for at least 20 postseason games...he s also 2-0 in managing the American League All-Star team, winning in both Cincinnati ( 15) and San Diego ( 16), the last two times the home field advantage was determined by the All-Star outcome...this is his second stint as a big league manager after nearly six full campaigns at the helm for the Milwaukee Brewers ( )...he compiled a record with the Brew Crew including a mark in his last two seasons...yost, a catcher during his playing days, began his coaching career in the Atlanta organization, including 12 straight seasons on Bobby Cox s big league staff ( ). vs. Cardinals (2017) vs. Cardinals (career) On Road (career) Leake (career) Lynn (career) Player AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI Bonifacio Butera Cabrera Cain Cuthbert Escobar Gallagher Gordon Hosmer Merrifield Moss Moustakas Interleague Hitting (Career) Player AVG AB H HR RBI Alexander Bonifacio Butera Cabrera Cahill Cain Cuthbert Duffy Escobar Feliz Gallagher Gordon Hammel Hosmer Kennedy Maurer Merrifield Minor Moss Moustakas Vargas Starting Pitchers Breakdown Total KC Avg.
