4 This & That FS 1 TONIGHT--The Royals will not be on their normal TV home of FOX Sports Kansas City this evening, but instead this is a rare Tuesday night nationally televised contest on FS 1...Justin Kutcher and Tom Verducci are here on the call for the network...thursday s 6:15 series finale in St. Louis has been added at the marquee game on the MLB Network. HOME RUNS CONTINUE--All three runs in last night s loss came via the long ball with solo blasts provided by Mike Moustakas (32), Eric Hosmer (18) and Brandon Moss (15)...KC has hit eight roundtrippers in the last three games and has hit 42 in the last 30 contests...with 140 home runs through the first 111 games, the Royals are on a pace for 204 roundtrippers this year, which would demolish previous single-season record of 168 in STILL THE A.L. BEST SINCE JUNE--Despite dropping five of the last seven games, Kansas City s record since June 1 is the second best mark in the Majors to the Dodgers ledger...in that span, the Royals have gone 11-4 with three splits in the 18 series played...since the start of the 2014 season, Kansas City and Baltimore are tied for the most wins in the American League with 322. INTERLEAGUE DROUGHT--For the first time since August, 2013, the Royals have lost four straight games against National League competition...kansas City dropped the final three affairs prior to the All-Star break in Dodger Stadium, then resumed Interleague play last night with an 11-3 loss to the Cardinals...KC is now 5-6 vs. the Senior Circuit this year with nine remaining...the Redbirds are only the second N.L. club to visit Kauffman Stadium this season, as KC split a 2-game visit from San Francisco way back in the first homestand of after tonight there are still two N.L. West clubs ticketed for a visit with Colorado coming to town on August and the Arizona Diamondbacks closing out the regular season on September 29-October 1. MOOSE CLOSING IN--One of the most talked about records in franchise history is Steve Balboni s 36 home runs in 1985, which still stands today as the most in franchise history...if Mike Moustakas has anything to say about it, that record will fall in Moose clubbed his 32nd home run of the year last night, second in as many days, to pull to within four of the coveted mark...moustakas enters play tonight on a pace for 47 blasts, which would shatter Balboni s 32-year mark...moose s 32 home runs are the most by a Royal since Jermaine Dye finished the 2000 season with 33...Moustakas is now second in the A.L. home run chase behind the Yankees Aaron Judge (35). HOME & ROAD WORK--With last night s loss, Kansas City is 7-3 in its last 10 home games and enters tonight with a record in The K...as for road work, after a rocky 2-11 start to road action this year, the Royals have played at a.575 clip (23-17) away from The K since May 8, the second best road record in the Majors in that span (Houston 29-10). THE BEST IN LEATHER--The Royals were guilty of a pair of errors last night giving them six in the last 16 games while they continue to pace Major League baseball with only 45 errors on the year...miami is next in the Majors with 48, while the Twins and Angels have the second fewest in the American League with 56...the Royals are currently on a pace to shatter the franchise record for fewest errors in a season, with the 162-game club mark of 85 set in the 1981 and 1994 squads had lower error totals of 72 and 80, respectively, but each were recorded in strike-shortened seasons...at the current pace this year, KC would commit just 66 errors. HOZ GOES BIG FLY--Eric Hosmer has homered in consecutive games and gone 4-for-9 with four runs and four RBI in the his last two...hoz entered play on April 23 with a.185 average, but has upped that 131 points to his present.315 mark by hitting.339 (123-for-363) in the 94 games while the club has posted a record. MOYLO STREAK HALTED--Reliever Peter Moylan left a runner aboard when he departed in the eighth inning last night and that runner eventually crossed the plate for the first earned runs charged to him since June 25 vs. Toronto...in that span, he has now allowed one earned run in 16.2 innings for a 0.54 ERA, while holding opposing hitters to a collective.105 mark (6-for-57)...the inventor of the Sledge-iatto has inherited more runners than any reliever in the Majors (47). DUPE S #1--KC replay specialist Bill Duplissea requested a second look at the Terrance Gore caught stealing in the ninth inning on July 29 night in Fenway Park and after a lengthy delay it was determined there wasn t enough evidence to overturn the call...duper is now 16-for-22 for a 73% success rate, the only Major League replay reviewer with a percentage above 70%...Bill closed 2016 as the best in baseball at his craft with a 69.2% success rate, making good on 27 of 39 challenges, with the Mets next at 67.7% (21-for-31). STILL GOING--Kansas City s energizer bunny, Alcides Escobar, has made a club-record 282 consecutive starts at shortstop dating back to September 26, 2015, the longest active streak in the Majors, according to the Elias Sports Bureau...the last MLB team to have the same starting SS in that many consecutive games was the Orioles, who had Miguel Tejada as their starting shortstop in 284 games from April 4, 2004 through August 20, should Esky get to 285, he will have the longest such streak since Cal Ripken started 2,216 consecutive games at SS for the Orioles from 1982 to AT THE HELM--The winningest manager in franchise history, Ned Yost is in his seventh full season with the club, taking the reins on May 13, he enters tonight two games over.500 with a record with Kansas City, which is a big accomplishment considering he had a mark in his first two+ seasons in charge, but is since (.538)...his win total has shattered Whitey Herzog s previous team mark of 410 wins ( )...Yost is the 16th full-time manager in franchise history and is seventh among active managers is games (2,169) and wins (1,063)...his postseason record of 22-9 represents a.710 winning pct., which is tops among all managers who have been at the helm for at least 20 postseason games...he s also 2-0 in managing the American League All-Star team, winning in both Cincinnati ( 15) and San Diego ( 16), the last two times the home field advantage was determined by the All-Star outcome...this is his second stint as a big league manager after nearly six full campaigns at the helm for the Milwaukee Brewers ( )...he compiled a record with the Brew Crew including a mark in his last two seasons...yost, a catcher during his playing days, began his coaching career in the Atlanta organization, including 12 straight seasons on Bobby Cox s big league staff ( ). vs. Cardinals (2017) vs. Cardinals (career) At Home (career) Wacha (career) Leake (career) Player AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI Bonifacio Butera Cabrera Cain Cuthbert Escobar Gallagher Gordon Hosmer Merrifield Moss Moustakas Interleague Hitting (Career) Player AVG AB H HR RBI Bonifacio Butera Cabrera Cain Cuthbert Escobar Gallagher Gordon Hosmer Merrifield Moss Moustakas Starting Pitchers Breakdown Total KC Avg.
