HOMEWORK SUCCESS--Yesterday s split gave Kansas City a mark in Kauffman Stadium, including an 8-4 record in the last dozen home games...a win today would give KC its third straight series win at home and a mark in the last five...these four games with Minnesota are the only home contests in a stretch of 13 games that started with the 1-2 stop in Detroit to open this week and then a 6-game tour of Seattle (3) and Dodger Stadium (3) that begins tomorrow...the Royals will come out of the break with a 10-game homestand featuring visits from Texas (3), Detroit (4) and the White Sox (3)...once that post-break stand is completed, Kansas City will be on the road for 17 of 23 games from July 24-August 16. MOOSE TIES CAREER HIGH--Third baseman Mike Moustakas continued his assault on the Kansas City record book with his 22nd homer of the year in yesterday s afternoon affair of the split twinbill...he s now tied his personal best set during the 2015 season and tied Jermaine Dye s 2000 club mark of 22 home runs prior to the All-Star break, with seven games remaining to break that mark...moose remains on a pace that would shatter Kansas City s long-standing club record of 36 roundtrippers hit by Steve Balboni during the 1985 season...his 22 home runs to this point translate to 45 over the remainder of the campaign. RECENT SUCCESS--A win this afternoon would give KC its sixth overall series victory in the last seven contested, the lone setback a 1-2 stop in Detroit earlier this week...the stretch began on June 9-11 with a 2-1 stop in San Diego, followed by a 2-0 set in San Francisco, 3-1 visit to Anaheim, then 2-1 marks against both Boston and Toronto during the last homestand...kc had been unbeaten in its last seven series prior to the Detroit visit, with the last series loss also coming at the hands of the Tigers to closeout May with a 1-2 set here...with yesterday s split, Kansas City is 14-6 in its last 20 games. ESKY EN FUEGO--Kansas City s recent run of success has coincided with the resurgence of shortstop Alcides Escobar...Esky had three hits and four RBI in yesterday s action and has hit safely in 12 of the last 13 games at a.396 clip (19-for-48)...he was hitting.178 on the year entering play on June 10, but has since hit.367 (29-for-79) with 14 runs scored, six doubles, two triples, two home runs and nine RBI, upping his season mark 48 points to its present.226, while the Royals have gone 14-6 in that span...he s made a club-record 251 consecutive starts at shortstop dating back to September 26, 2015, the longest active streak in the Majors, according to the Elias Sports Bureau...the last MLB team to have the same starting SS in that many consecutive games was the Orioles, who had Miguel Tejada as their starting shortstop in 284 games from April 4, 2004 through August 20, should Esky get to 285, he will have the longest such streak since Cal Ripken started 2,216 consecutive games at SS for the Orioles from 1982 to THE LAND OF HOZ--Kansas City first baseman and the #1 vote-getter for the 2017 All-Star Game at his position entering the final week of balloting, Eric Hosmer, has homered in two of the last three games and extended his current hitting streak to eight games in which he s batting.344 (11-for-32) with three homers and seven RBI...he was hitting.185 after play on April 22, but in the 62 games since, he has batted.338 (81-for-240) with 40 runs, 16 doubles, a triple, 10 home runs, a.390 on-base pct. and.538 slugging pct., upping his season mark 121 points to its present.306 average...his 25 multi-hit games on the year have all come since April 23. MINOR LEAGUE HONOREES--The organization has had two more of its players named to league All-Star teams with Raul Mondesi slated to represent Omaha in next week s Triple-A All-Star Game and Pedro Fernandez of Northwest Arkansas to the Texas League Midsummer Classic...KC also identified its monthly award winners for the individual clubs in the system...they are: Omaha (AAA); Pitcher Luke Farrell; Player Bubba Starling; Northwest Arkansas (AA); Pitcher Foster Griffin; Player Donnie Dewees; Wilmington (High-A); Pitcher Richard Lovelady; Player Wander Franco; Lexington (A) Pitcher Jose Veras; Player Emmanuel Rivera. AT THE HELM--The winningest manager in franchise history, Ned Yost is in his seventh full season with the club, taking the reins on May 13, he enters today s contest just a game below the.500 mark, currently at during the regular season, which is a huge accomplishment considering he had a mark in his first two+ seasons in charge, but is since (.537)...his win total has shattered Whitey Herzog s previous team mark of 410 wins ( )...Yost is the 16th full-time manager in franchise history and is seventh among active managers is games (2,138) and wins (1,046)...his postseason record of 22-9 represents a.710 winning pct., which is tops among all managers who have been at the helm for at least 20 postseason games...he s also 2-0 in managing the American League All-Star team, winning in both Cincinnati ( 15) and San Diego ( 16), the last two times the home field advantage was determined by the All-Star outcome...this is his second stint as a big league manager after nearly six full campaigns at the helm for the Milwaukee Brewers ( )...he compiled a record with the Brew Crew including a mark in his last two seasons...yost, a catcher during his playing days, began his coaching career in the Atlanta organization, including 12 straight seasons on Bobby Cox s big league staff ( ). vs. Twins (2017) vs. Twins (career) At Home (career) Santiago (career) TBA Player AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI Bonifacio Butera Cain Escobar Gordon Hosmer Merrifield Moss Moustakas Perez Soler Torres Starting Pitchers Breakdown Total KC Avg.
