The Sox are 1-1 on the homestand, recording a 5-0 win last night after suffering a 7-0 shutout loss on Monday they went 4-2 on their last trip to Minnesota (3-0) and Tampa Bay (1-2). Following tomorrow's game, the White Sox conclude the homestand with three games vs. Texas (4/22-24) before taking a seven-game trip to Toronto (4/25-27) and Baltimore (4/28-5/1). The Sox have just one off day in April (4/12) they play 17 of their fi rst 27 games on the road and 33 of their fi rst 42 outside the AL Central division. TODAY'S STORYLINES The White Sox 9-5 start is their best after 14 games since 2008 (also 9-5). With a win today, the Sox would record their best 15-game start since 2006 (10-5). Chris Sale is 4-0 with a 1.64 ERA (7 ER/38.1 IP) and 41 strikeouts in seven career games (five starts) against the Angels, allowing just 21 hits (.158 average). Sale has gone 18-5 with a 2.49 ERA (56 ER/202.1 IP) and 244 strikeouts in 39 career games (26 starts) vs. the AL West. Chicago's bullpen leads the major leagues with a 1.60 ERA and has been scoreless in nine of its 13 games. LAST NIGHT'S RECAP Mat Latos combined with Matt Albers and Nate Jones on a three-hitter as the White Sox ended a three-game losing streak with a 5-0 victory over the Angels. Latos gave up two hits over 6.1 IP to improve to 3-0 with a 0.49 ERA (1 ER/18.1 IP) over three starts (see note below). Matt Albers threw 0.2 IP to extend his scoreless streak to 30.0 consecutive IP over his last 26 outings dating back to 8/5/15, tied with Britt Burns (1981) for 10th-longest in White Sox history. Nate Jones worked 2.0 perfect IP for his fi rst career save. Todd Frazier (second inning) and Jose Abreu (fourth) hit solo home runs off Matt Shoemaker, marking the fi rst time they have homered in the same game as teammates. The Sox added three runs in the eighth, highlighted by Melky Cabrera's two-run triple. PITCHING PROWESS The White Sox lead the American League in ERA (2.63), bullpen ERA (1.60) and opponents average (.209), are tied for fi rst in quality starts (10) and rank second in WHIP (1.03). Chicago's 2.63 ERA through 14 games is its lowest since 1966 (1.95) the Sox have held the opposition to one or no runs in six of their 14 games FIRING BLANKS The White Sox lead the American League with three shutouts, marking the fi rst time since 1972 they have held the opposition scoreless three times within the fi rst 14 games. The Sox did not record their third shutout last season until 7/3 vs. Baltimore in the team's 77th game. LATOS IN SELECT COMPANY Mat Latos has joined Nick Altrock (1906) as the only pitchers in White Sox history to win each of his fi rst three starts of a season while allowing one or no runs. Latos allowed one hit over 6.0 scoreless IP in his Sox debut on 4/7 at Oakland, one run on three hits over 6.0 IP on 4/14 at Minnesota and two hits over 6.1 scoreless IP last night. ALBERS ON A ROLL Matt Albers has thrown 30.0 consecutive scoreless IP over his last 27 appearances dating back to 8/5/15, tied with Britt Burns (1981) for the 10th-longest streak in White Sox history and also the longest active in the major leagues. Albers is 1-0 with 11 holds, 24 hits allowed, six walks and 22 strikeouts during his career-best streak, which is the longest by a Sox pitcher since Wilson Alvarez threw 31.0 IP in QUALITY IN QUANTITY The White Sox have made 1,167 quality starts since the start of the 2003 season, the second-highest total in the major leagues behind the Mets (1,172). The Sox are tied for the American League with 10 quality starts this season after leading the league with 98 in 2015, their highest total since 2003 (also 98). Jose Quintana (2nd, 27) and Chris Sale (T3rd, 26) rank among the AL leaders in quality starts since WHITE SOX VS. ANGELS The White Sox evened the season series at 1-1 last night. Chicago is batting.194 (12-62) with a 3.50 ERA (7/18) and has been outscored, 7-5. The Sox went 4-3 against the Angels last season (3-0 at home) for their fi rst season series victory since The Angels lead the all-time series, the White Sox are at home (64-56 at U.S. Cellular Field) and on the road ( at Angel Stadium). HOW THE WEST WAS WON The White Sox have gone (.641) vs. the American League West since 2015, the second-best winning percentage in the major leagues behind San Francisco (.650). Sox pitchers have recorded a 3.26 ERA (131 ER/361.1 IP) and have made 30 quality starts in 39 games. BULLPEN RELIEF The White Sox bullpen owns a major-league best 1.60 ERA, compared to 3.40 at the same point last season. Chicago has one scheduled off day in April, tied with Arizona for the fewest in the major leagues by comparison, the Mets (six) and Kansas City (fi ve) have the most off days in April. VIEW FROM THE TOP The White Sox have spent 11 days in fi rst place, matching their combined total from The Sox spent zero days in fi rst in 2015, four in 2014 and seven in 2013, including off days in 2012, they led the divsion for 117 days. THE CELL AT 25 The White Sox are celebrating the 25th anniversary of U.S. Cellular Field in 2016 among the historic events at U.S. Cellular Field, the Sox hosted the 74th All-Star Game on 7/15/03 and won Games 1 and 2 of the 2005 World Series vs. Houston. Mark Buehrle threw a no-hitter on 4/18/07 vs. Texas and a perfect game on 7/23/09 vs. Tampa Bay, Jim Thome hit his 500th career home run on 9/16/07 vs. the Angels and a solo home run in a one-game playoff vs. Minnesota on 9/30/08 which proved to be the difference in a 1-0 Sox victory. JACKIE ROBINSON DAY The White Sox will celebrate Jackie Robinson's legacy on Friday vs. Texas as part of the celebration, Andre Loving the winner of the 2016 Black History Month video essay contest will throw a ceremonial fi rst pitch. Loving is a student at Percy L. Julian High School, and his video will be played on the video board at U.S. Cellular Field. HONORING EDDIE The White Sox will honor sports broadcasting legend and long-time club executive Eddie Einhorn by wearing an Eddie patch on their uniform sleeve during the 2016 regular season. Einhorn, who passed away on 2/23 from complications involving a stroke at age 80, was the team s president and chief operating officer from AT THE HELM Robin Ventura is in his fi fth season as White Sox manager owns a (.462) record Ventura has managed 662 games with the Sox, 10th-most in franchise history he was a fi nalist for American League Manager of the Year in MILESTONES WITHIN REACH Melky Cabrera: 50 hits for 1, doubles for 300.
