1 Hartford Yard Goats ((Rockies)) vs. Thunder Thunder ((Yankees)) RHP Jesus Tinoco (7-11, 5.08) vs. RHP Brian Keller (9-8, 3.58) Friday August 24, :05 PM Game 130 of 140 Dunkin Donuts Park Hartford, CT 2 LAST GAME: READING, Pa. A four-run fourth inning for the Reading Fightin Phils proved too much for the Thunder in an 8-3 loss on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Stadium. The Thunder (69-60) stranded 10 runners in the game and struck out a total of 15 times, matching a season-high. Trenton starter Nick Green struggled over five and onethird innings, surrendering six runs (five earned). With the Thunder leading 1-0 and runners on first and second for Reading (61-66) in the bottom of the fourth inning, Damek Tomscha hit a ground ball to third. Third baseman Gosuke Katoh threw to second base in an attempt to start a double play, but threw wildly into right field, allowing Cornelius Randolph to score the tying run. Austin Listi followed by lifting a go-ahead, three-run homer just over the wall in left-center. The rally erased the Thunder advantage provided by Bruce Caldwell s towering solo homer off Fightin Phils starter Harold Arauz in the third inning. The right-hander went on to strike out eight batters over five and two-third innings and received the win. The Thunder got an RBI-single from Jhalan Jackson in the top of the sixth to come within two runs, 4-2, but left the tying run stranded at second. Reading added to its lead in the bottom half, as Listi blooped an RBI-double into shallow left field, and Malquin Canelo and Adam Haseley later contributed back-to-back RBI-singles. Reading added three runs on four hits in the sixth inning off Green and reliever Matt Frawley, then got a bases-loaded walk from Randolph in the eighth off Thunder righthander Chase Hodson for an 8-2 lead. Trenton salvaged a run in the ninth inning on an RBI-double by Wendell Rijo, but left Rijo stranded when Trey Amburgey flied out to center to end the game. With the loss, the Thunder s magic number to clinch a playoff berth remains at four Eastern League Standings 2.x East Division W L GB Streak New Hampshire L1 Trenton L1 Reading W1 Hartford W4 Binghamton L4 Portland W1 West Division W L GB Streak Akron W3 Altoona W5 Harrisburg L5 Bowie W1 Richmond L1 Erie L3 THUNDER CLAPS: THINKING POSTSEASON: Since April 11, the Thunder have sat in either first or second place in the Eastern Division standings. Currently three games behind first-place New Hampshire and seven games ahead of third-place Reading, Trenton is seeking its third consecutive trip to the EL playoffs, a streak that has been achieved just once in franchise history ( ). The Thunder s Magic Number to clinch a playoff spot stands at 4 entering play on Friday. WALK, DON T RUN: Saturday s doubleheader marked the first-ever occurrence of consecutive walk-off walks in Thunder franchise history -27 and the 7 th and 8 th walk-off wins of the season for the Thunder. Since 2005, there have been two prior instances of teams winning consecutive games via walk-off walk: 5/25 and 5/26/16 Harrisburg and 7/4/08 in a doubleheader between DSL Athletics 1 and DSL Athletics 2. Never in Major League history has a team won consecutive games via walk-off walk, the last team to win consecutive games via walk-off was the Cleveland Indians on 8/8 and 8/9 of this year. THE HOME STRETCH: Including tonight, the Thunder have just 11 games remaining in the regular season. Seven of those are against the Eastern Division, while Trenton will still face the Altoona Curve for one more series to round out its slate of games against the Western Division. THE BOSS: Bruce Caldwell has reached base safely in a season-high 16 consecutive games for the Thunder. During the streak, Caldwell is batting.333 (20-for-60) with five doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, and 12 walks. WALK LIKE A MAN: Gosuke Katoh has drawn 13 walks over his last 14 games and currently leads the Thunder with 59 bases on balls, a mark that is tied for second-most among Eastern League hitters (Cavan Biggio, 94). The 23-year-old infielder has offset a.227 batting average with a.330 on-base percentage. SUMMER BREEZES: The Thunder struck out 15 times in Thursday s loss in Reading, matching a season-high (May 24 at Akron). Both Gosuke Katoh and Brandon Wagner matched career-highs by striking out four times each. Trenton has been one of the more strikeout-prone teams in the Eastern League this season, ranking third with 1,060 strikeouts. WACKY WEDNESDAY: Wednesday s Thunder victory marked just the second game this season (out of 44 games total) in which Trenton won despite trailing after seven innings. The game featured four lead changes, and the Thunder s six-run eighth inning, which came one run shy of matching the team s season-high, single-inning run total, saw just one hit recorded. PERFECT TIMING: Rashad Crawford s go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning of Wednesday s game in Reading was his first home run of the season, and his first since August 23, 2017 against Portland. It was Trenton s sixth grand slam of the season, and helped Crawford record a career-high five RBI. + Upcoming Probable Starting Pitchers: Saturday, August Hartford 6:05 PM LHP Ryan Bollinger (7-5, 4.03) vs. RHP Rico Garcia (6-1, 2.37) Sunday, August Hartford 1:05 PM TBA vs. LHP Evan Grills (3-4, 3.48) Monday, August Altoona 6:00 PM RHP Trevor Stephan (2-8, 5.13) vs. TBA Tuesday, August Altoona 6:00 PM RHP Jonathan Loaisiga (3-1, 4.15) vs. TBA 2018 Monthly Report April: 12-9, May: 20-12, June: 14-13, July: 14-13, August: 9-12, September: 0-0 Date Opponent Time/Result Reading W 6-1 Reading L 8-4 Hartford W 2-1 Hartford L 6-3 Hartford W 4-2 (11) 8/7 Altoona L 5-1 8/8 Altoona W 2-1 8/9 Altoona L 9-7 Harrisburg W 10-1 Harrisburg L 9-1 Harrisburg L 6-3 8/13 Portland L 5-2 (10) Portland L 6-5 Portland L 3-2 8/17 New Hampshire W 3-1 8/18 New Hampshire (DH) W 5-4 (9), W 3-2 8/19 New Hampshire L /20 Hartford L 4-0 8/21 Hartford L 7-3 Reading W 8-7 Reading L 8-3 Hartford 7:05 PM Hartford 6:05 PM Hartford 1:05 PM Altoona 6:00 PM Altoona 6:00 PM Altoona 6:00 PM Altoona 6:00 PM 8/31 Reading 7:00 PM 9/1 Reading 7:00 PM 9/2 Reading 7:00 PM 9/3 Reading 1:00 PM
