NOLA has dropped seven of eight to the Sky Sox this season, including all four matchups at Security Service Field. This is the Baby Cakes final visit to Colorado Springs, where they hold a all-time record. LAST TIME OUT Orlando Arcia and Tyrone Taylor hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning, and only the rain slowed down the Sky Sox in a 9-2 victory over the Baby Cakes. After Colorado Springs took a 4-0 lead in the third when Christian Bethancourt scored on a ground out, the Baby Cakes cut into the deficit in the fourth inning when Eric Campbell scored on a ground out and Cristhian Adames hit an RBI single. The Sky Sox answered with five runs in the fifth against Cakes starter Zac Gallen, who was charged with all nine runs on 12 hits in 4.2 innings. Jake Hager collected a pair of doubles and drove in four runs, while Taylor added a triple to his home run. Aaron Brooks picked up the win after he struck out three while allowing two runs and seven hits over 5.0 innings, and was credited with a complete game when heavy rain and lightning moved into the area during the bottom of the fifth. Each player in the Sky Sox lineup, including Brooks, had at least one hit. ON THE HILL Tyler Cloyd takes the mound for the first time in 11 days for his sixth start with the Baby Cakes. Cloyd yielded four runs and six hits in 5.0 innings in a loss to Iowa On This Date... his last time out on June 25, though he fanned a season high five batters. Since allowing eight runs in his first start on 5/22 at Omaha, Cloyd has pitched to a 4.05 ERA, limiting opponents to three runs or fewer in three of four starts. He also appeared in seven games out of the Marlins bullpen across a pair of stints this season, posting a 8.66 ERA (17 ER/17.2 IP). Mike Kickham gets the nod in the nightcap for his second starting assignment. The southpaw also started the second game of last Saturday s twin bill vs. Oklahoma City and yielded five runs in 3.0 innings before the Cakes rattled off 11 unanswered runs in an 11-5 win. Kickham has thrived on the road, holding opponents to a.175 average (7x40) in four relief appearances, and earned a win in the Springs last August 12. DEAN OF HITS Austin Dean has hit safely in 20 of his last 25 games, batting.318 (29x91), and owns a.339 average overall between NOLA and Jacksonville, good for 15th in all of Minor League Baseball, after hitting.420 (34x81) in 22 games at Double-A to be named April s Southern League Player of the Month, pacing the circuit in batting average, hits, total bases (53), slugging (.654) and OPS (1.120). Dean is batting.327 (40x122) in 30 games for the Cakes since moving into the leadoff spot. YOU RE AN ALL-STAR Eric Campbell and Zac Gallen were named to the PCL All-Star team. 10th in the league batting race with a.326 average, Campbell was elected as the PCL s second baseman. He also ranks fifth in on-base (.430) and is tied for eighth in RBI (52). Gallen was also selected, and holds a 4-5 record and a 4.24 ERA, which ranks 15th in the league. It is the second career All-Star nods for each player, Campbell earning Eastern League honors in 2012 with AA Binghamton, and Gallen netting Florida State League recognition last year with High-A Palm Beach. HIGH HONOUR Odrisamer Despaigne earned PCL Pitcher of the Week honors for June 25-July 1 by pitching 10.2 scoreless innings in two appearances (one start). The Cuban native struck out eight against one walk and seven hits, and earned a win last Tuesday vs. Iowa by retiring 15 of 18 batters out of the bullpen. Despaigne is the second Baby Cake to win the award this season, joining Ben Meyer (April 30 May 6). SAVE ME Javy Guerra has pitched 14.2 shutout frames in 10 games since being activated from the DL. Dating back to his final six outings with the Cakes last season, Guerra owns a 23.0-inning scoreless streak, the longest by a NOLA pitcher since Brian Flynn had a 22.0-inning run from July 23-August 2, The club record is held by reliever Mike Ignasiak, a 53.2-inning streak in 1993 that ended in April SIR ISAAC Isaac Galloway had his 21st multi-hit effort of the season, going 2x2 last night to move into sole possession of eighth place on the franchise s career hits chart (312). In that span, the relief corps yielded eight hits with 16 strikeouts. Relievers have since added another 4.2 scoreless frames, good for a 0.48 ERA in the last nine contests. NOLA S NOLA Austin Nola has a hit in 16 of his last 21 games, batting.301 (22x73) with seven doubles and 12 RBI. His.301 mark overall ranks fifth among PCL catchers with at least 100 at-bats. Teammate Rafael Ortega has the third-longest such streak at 25 games.
