RAY MATTER Last night s 7-2 win combined with Boston s 2-0 loss to the Dodgers moved the Rays back into first place in the AL East, percentage points ahead of the Red Sox the Rays have won 7 of the last 9 games, gaining 4.0 games on Boston during this span after falling 3.5 games on the Red Sox during the 6-game losing streak that preceded this stretch today the Rays are in first place in the AL East for only the second day out of the last 24 (also through Tuesday) the other two times when the Rays had at least a share of first at this point in the season, they went on to win the division (2008, 2010).
