RYU, RYU GOT WHAT I NEED: The Dodgers will send southpaw Hyun-Jin Ryu to the mound tonight for his third start of the season, following a stellar outing in his previous start on April 10 against the Athletics, when he allowed just one hit over 6.0 shutout frames and struck out eight against just one walk to collect his first win of the season and his first since Aug. 24, On the year, the South Korea native has gone 1-0 with a 2.79 ERA (3 ER/9.2 IP) and has held hitters to a.176 average. MATCHUP vs. Padres Dodgers: 5th, NL West (5.5 GB) Padres: 3 rd, NL West (5.0 GB) All-Time: LA leads series, ( at Petco Park) 2017: LA won series, 13-6 (5-4 at Petco Park) NO FREEBIES: The Dodgers 3.95 ERA ranks 11 th in the NL, but they are making the opposition earn it as their 34 walks are the fewest in the senior circuit and are tied for the second fewest in the Majors with the A s. The only team in the big leagues that has issued fewer walks than the Dodgers and the A s are the Indians, allowing just 32 free passes this season. The Dodgers walked the fewest batters in the National League last season (442) and ranked second in the Majors to the Indians (406). Los Angeles currently holds the highest strikeout-to-walk ratio in the Major Leagues with a 4.18 (142 K/34 BB) mark. The Dodgers posted the highest strikeout-to-walk ratio in the NL last season (3.50), while ranking second to the Indians (3.98) for the big league lead. CLUTH CITY: The Dodger bench has proven to be very resourceful for Dodger manager Dave Roberts as the club currently leads the Majors with 10 hits by a pinch-hitter and ranks among the league leaders in pinch-hit average (.357, 3 rd ), RBI (5, 2 nd ) and OBP (.419, 7 th ). Dodger second baseman Chase Utley and infielder/catcher Kyle Farmer are currently tied with Chicago-NL s Tommy La Stella for the most pinch-hits in the Majors with four. Utley has gone 4-for-5 (.800), while Farmer has gone 4-for- 6 (.667) in pinch-hit situations. Not to go unnoticed, Dodger catcher Austin Barnes is currently tied for fifth in the big leagues with two pinch-hits (2-for-5). REMEMBER ME?: Since being traded to Los Angeles from San Diego prior to the 2015 season, Dodger catcher Yasmani Grandal has slashed.244/.340/.559 with 19 runs, four doubles, 12 home runs and 26 RBI in 39 games against his former team. According to STATS LLC., Grandal s 12 home runs against the Padres are the most among all Dodger players during that period and ranks among the most by any opposing hitters, trailing the Rockies Nolan Arenado (17) and Charlie Blackmon (15). Dodger outfielder Matt Kemp, who also played for the Padres from 2015 until July 30, 2016, has seen success against his former team, hitting.290 with 24 doubles, one triple, 17 homers and 68 RBI along with a.349 OBP in 129 career games. Dodger first baseman Cody Bellinger saw success against the Padres in his first big league season last year, slashing.333/.403/.722 with 12 runs, one double, one triple, six home runs and 17 RBI in 14 games. At Petco Park, Bellinger has hit safely in seven of eight games, including stroking five of his six career home runs against the Padres in San Diego.
