4 This & That ROYALS JERSEY DAY SET FOR FRIDAY--In partnership with Majestic Athletic and Major League Baseball, Kansas City will celebrate Jersey Day on Friday as Royals fans are encouraged to wear team jerseys to work, to school and all over KC throughout the day...similar celebrations are planned at every Major League ballpark. A TURN FOR THE BETTER--Beginning with Jeremy Guthrie s start last Thursday in Texas, Kansas City has completed a successful trip through the rotation as the Royals starters went 4-1 with a 2.12 ERA, allowing just seven earned runs in 29.2 innings, and holding opposing hitters to a.198 average...it s a huge improvement over the first 12 starts in May as KC s starters went 4-5 with a 5.52 ERA (38 ER in 62.0 IP) with opponents hitting.273 against them, between May in this turn, Edinson Volquez and Yordano Ventura went 7.0 shutout frames in back-to-back outings, the first time KC hurlers pitched that deep into consecutive games this year. MOOSE IS LOOSE AGAIN--Mike Moustakas was once again in the middle of KC s offensive effort last night, recording his 15th multi-hit game of the year and sixth game with three hits or more after matching a career high with four base knocks to open this homestand last Friday...Moose s production has been a determining factor for KC, as the Royals are 18-8 when Mike collects at least one hit and 14-3 when he scores at least one run...the third baseman is tied for seventh in the A.L. in batting average (.331), tied for eighth in multi-hit games and tied for ninth in base hits (48)...it s a far cry from where he was a year ago, when he was hitting.152 with nine runs scored, while he didn t record his 48th hit in 2014 until July 22, his 79th game of the season. WADING THROUGH THE COMPETITION--Relief ace Wade Davis recorded his seventh save in seven chances last night and continued his brilliance out of the bullpen...since the start of the 2014 season, Davis has posted an A.L.-best 11 wins in relief, which are tied with Pittsburgh s Tony Watson and Miami s Bryan Morris for the Major League lead...in that span, Wade has an 11-2 ledger with 10 rescues and a 0.80 ERA (8 earned runs in 90.0 innings) while limiting opposing hitters to a.144 mark, third-best in the Major Leagues...since June 27 of last year, Wade has been even better, going 6-0 with 10 saves, an 0.48 ERA (3 ER in 56.1 IP), a.153 opponents average and strikeouts per 9.0 innings...he also recorded his 100th consecutive inning without allowing a home run last night, the longest-active streak in the Major Leagues...Davis streak dates back to August 24, 2013, which was the date of his last regular season start. THE PEN IS MIGHTIER--While not utilized as much the last two games, KC s bullpen has been just as effective with Kelvin Herrera and Wade Davis recording flawless frames last night...the Royals have the best bullpen ERA (1.58) in baseball and have allowed the third-fewest hits (82) and the fewest runs (25), despite working the fifth-most innings (131.0)...KC is over one-half run better on the second-best bullpen, St. Louis (2.14), having allowed eight fewer earned runs in one more inning than the Red Birds...Kansas City also leads MLB in opponents batting average (.181) and has allowed the lowest slugging percentage (.273), giving up just 23 extra-base hits. TWO OUTS? NO PROBLEM--Kansas City continues to be a tough out with two down in the inning as the Royals were 4-for-11 with a pair of RBI with two outs last night...the club leads the Majors, hitting.296 (133-for-449) with two down, while they re also tops in two-out hits (133), tied for the big league lead in RBI (77) and second in slugging (.434) and tied for second in two-out runs (80)...in fact, KC has scored 41 percent of their runs this season (80 of 195) with two down...predictably, several Royals rank among the league-leaders in two-out hitting as Lorenzo Cain leads the A.L., batting.404 (19-for-47) with two outs, Kendrys Morales is tied for the Major League lead with 15 runs scored and is second the Junior Circuit in two-out hits (21), while Cain (19), Eric Hosmer (18) and Salvador Perez (18) all rank in the top 10. TOPPING THE CHARTS--With their 3-0 win last night, the Royals took over the Major League lead in run differential, having outscored their opponents by 58 runs this season, which is two runs better than the Dodgers (+56) and six ahead of St. Louis (+52)...KC has more than doubled their closest A.L. competition, Houston, which is +24 for the season...the Royals rank third in the Majors in runs scored (195) this year, while they ve allowed the fourth-fewest runs in bigs (137), the only club to rank in the top five in both categories...last season, the Royals outscored their opponents by 27 runs, finishing with an record. PACKING THE PARK--Fans have been coming out to The K in droves this season with the Royals recording their sixth sellout of the year on May 7 for School Day at The K against Cleveland...through 20 home games this season, the Royals have drawn 620,714 fans for an average of 31,036 per game...kauffman Stadium s numbers have increased dramatically from a year ago, as the Royals overall home attendance is up 207,498 from its first 20 home games in 2014, or an average of 10,375 per game...those numbers will continue to climb as KC officials are expecting near capacity crowds for the weekend set against St. Louis. NED NEARING ROYALS WIN RECORD--Ned Yost, the all-time leader in games managed with the Royals (813), is closing in on the club record for wins...since taking the reigns in Kansas City on May 13, 2010, Yost has compiled a record with the Royals, just 12 wins shy of matching Whitey Herzog (410) for the most in franchise history, while he s also six behind Dick Howser (404) for second...this is his second stint as a big league manager after nearly six full campaigns at the helm for the Milwaukee Brewers ( )...he compiled a record with the Brew Crew including a mark in his last two seasons...ned s 855 career wins are good for 72nd all-time, one behind Jim Tracy (856) for 71st, while his 1,772 games on the bench are 66th in MLB history. vs. Reds (2015) vs. Reds (career) At Home (career) Marquis (career) Lynn (career) Player AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI AVG AB H HR RBI Butera Cain Colon Dyson Escobar Gordon Hosmer Infante Morales Moustakas Orlando Perez Interleague Hitting (Career) Player AVG AB H HR RBI Butera Cain Colon Dyson Escobar Gordon Hosmer Infante Morales Moustakas Orlando Perez Starting Pitchers Breakdown Total KC Avg.
