Liberty opened the Big South Conference portion of its schedule with a three-game sweep of UNC Asheville, this past weekend at Liberty Baseball Stadium. The sweep runs the Flames' record to overall and 3-0 in conference play. 2. All five of Liberty's midweek contests in the month of March were road contests. Tuesday's game at Duke completes that string. 3. Tuesday's game is the final contest of 19 for the Flames during the month of March. Liberty has posted an 11-7 record during the month, so far. Liberty played 14 out of their 19 scheduled contests in March at Liberty Baseball Stadium. All 14 home games were part of weekend series. The Flames completed those games with a 10-4 mark. 4. Tuesday's contest is the second of three games between the Blue Devils and Flames, this season. Liberty defeated Duke, 1-0, at Pelicans Park in Myrtle Beach, S.C. during the Baseball at the Beach Tournament on Feb. 27. The two teams are scheduled to meet again in two weeks (April 19) at Liberty Baseball Stadium. 5. Tuesday's game is the first between Duke and Liberty at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C. The Bulls are the Triple A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. The sweep halted the Flames' three-game losing streak and moved Liberty's record to 11-7 during the month of March. Liberty enters the week, averaging 6.3 runs per game, while allowing 5.1 runs per game, this season. The Flames will be looking to get on track in midweek games on Tuesday. Liberty has posted a 2-3 mark in midweek games. The Flames were edged 10-9 at Maryland in their last midweek contest, last Tueday. Shepherd collected his fourth three-hit game of the year and drove in two runs in 6-5 win over Asheville, Friday night. Shepherd hit his third home run of the year and scored three times in 11-5 win over Asheville, Sunday. The outfielder leads the Flames and is second in the Big South in runs scored. OF D.J. Artis reached base in each of his four plate appearances in an 11-5 win over Asheville, Saturday. He went 3-for-3 with a walk, a RBI and two runs scored. He also stole his team-leading ninth base. Artis had two hits, including driving in the go-ahead run in the eight inning of a 7-6 win over Asheville, Thursday. Artis leads the Flames and the Big South Conference with a.540 on base percentage. He is among the top three in the conference and leads Liberty in batting average (.411), hits (39) and walks (25). RHP Shane Quarterley leads the Flames in appearances with 12. This past weekend, Quarterley picked up his fourth win of the year with 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief in a 6-5 win over Asheville, Thursday. The following evening, Quarterley recorded the final out of the contest to earn his fourth saves. Quarterley also leads the Big South in appearances, is second in saves (4) and third in wins (4). RHP Zach Helsel did not allow a run over a four-inning relief stint to record his first collegiate win, Saturday. Helsel scattered three hits, striking out a batter and not walking one. 1B/OF Andrew Yacyk collected three hits and a RBI in 6-5 win over Asheville, Friday. Yacyk went 5-for-6 in his return to his home state of Maryland, this past Tuesday against the Maryland Terrapins. The Hagerstown, Md., native drove in three runs, setting a new career-high for hits. Yacyk leads the Flames with 27 RBI and is among the Big South leaders. Freshman CF Jack Morris and 3B Josh Barrick each hit the first home run of their careers, this past Tuesday night at Maryland. Morris collected two hits, three RBI and scored twice in the contest. Morris' home run in the fourth plated three runs, his first RBI as a Flame. Barrick's first career home run was also a three-run shot. The 3B had two hits, three RBI and scored twice in the game. Barrick had two hits and scored the go-ahead run in the eighth in Liberty's 7-6 win over UNC Asheville, Thursday night. 2B Andrew Kowalo reached base in all five of his plate appearances, last Tuesday at Maryland. Kowalo had two hits, was hit by a pitch twice and walked in the contest. LHP Victor Cole won his second straight start with 5 1/3 innings of work, striking out 10 in a 6-5 win over Asheville on Friday. Cole was named the Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week for games played March The senior went the distance for the first time this season in a 4-2 win over Kent State in game one of a doubleheader, March 19. Cole struck out a career-high 11 batters and retired the last 13 of 14 and the last seven Golden Flashes to face him. SS Dalton Britt started his 200th consecutive game in the first game of Liberty's doubleheader against Kent State on March 19. Britt has now started 206 straight games. The senior has started every Liberty contest since joining the Flames in Britt hit his second home run of the season in Liberty's 7-6 victory over Asheville, Thursday. C Payton Scarbrough had two doubles and two RBI during the Flames' win over Asheville, Saturday. Scarbrough collected two hits and hit his second home run of the season at Virginia Tech, March 15. He doubled and had three RBI.

Maryland edged the Flames, 10-9, at Bob "Turtle" Stadium, last Tuesday. The Flames played eight of their first nine games away from Lynchburg - four road games and four neutral site games. Cole Named Big South Pitcher of the Week, March Senior left-hander Victor Cole was named the Big South Pitcher of the Week for games played March Cole went the distance for the first time this season in a 4-2 win over Kent State in game one of a doubleheade on March 19. The Memphis, Tenn., native was in control for most of the contest, allowing two runs on four hits, pitching a complete game for the second time in his career. Cole, who evened his record at 1-1, struck out a career-high 11 batters and walked two in the contest. He retired the last 13 of 14 and the last seven Golden Flashes to face him to finished the game. It is the first time this season and the third time in Cole's Liberty career that he has been named the Big South Pitcher of the Week.
