Sam Coonrod (0-1, 0.00) is slated to make the start on the mound for the Giants tonight. In Search Of Back-To-Back Wins Following last night s 5-2 victory over Modesto, the Giants will be looking for consecutive wins to open the homestand. San Jose (6-6 record) has yet to win back-to-back games this season. The Giants longest losing streak was a two-game slide last weekend (April 15-16). Familiar Foes Yesterday marked the first of 24 meetings this season between San Jose and Modesto (12 games at Municipal Stadium, 12 games at John Thurman Field). The clubs will play each other 16 times during the first half. LAST GAME April R H E Modesto San Jose x WP: Suarez (1-1) LP: Polanco (0-1) S: None Andrew Suarez struck out a career-high nine batters over seven dominant innings in a 5-2 Giants victory last night at Municipal Stadium. Suarez surrendered just one run and six hits during his masterpiece to pick-up the win. The left-hander did not issue a walk and threw 63 out of his 82 pitches for strikes. The game was deadlocked 1-1 until San Jose erupted for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. A bases loaded walk to C.J Hinojosa broke the tie before Chris Shaw hit a sacrifice fly. Jose Vizcaino, Jr. and Steven Duggar then produced back-to-back two-out RBI singles. Brandon Bednar (3-for-4, RBI, SB) and Duggar (2-for-3, 2B, RBI, SB) had multi-hit games to lead the Giants offensively in the win. Home Rainouts The Giants had two postponements and one game suspended due to rain during their opening homestand this season. Prior to this season, the last San Jose Giants home game to be postponed due to rain was on April 25, 2012 (vs. High Desert). Shaw Extends Hitting Streak To Nine Games First baseman Chris Shaw brings a nine-game hitting streak into tonight s action. Shaw is batting at a.371 clip (13-for-35) with four doubles and five RBI s during the streak. The hitting streak is the longest by a Giants player this season. Pitching With RISP Opponents are batting.304 against Giants pitching this season with runners in scoring position the highest average in the league. With runners in scoring position and two outs, San Jose opponents are hitting at a.358 clip. Hitting Leaders Outfielder Steven Duggar (3rd,.364) and shortstop C.J Hinojosa (T6th,.333) both rank among the league leaders in the California League in batting average. Duggar is also tied for second in the league in home runs (4), second in slugging (.750) and second in on-base percentage (.462). Duggar hit only one home run in 229 at-bats last season for Salem-Keizer. He has four homers in 44 at-bats this year. Hinojosa has hit safely in 10 out of 11 games played this season. Sensational Suarez Andrew Suarez s nine strikeouts last night were the most by a Giants pitcher this season. His seven innings pitched also matched the longest start by a San Jose hurler so far this year. On Deck Following the current series versus Modesto and an off day on Monday, the Giants continue their homestand with a three-game set against the Stockton Ports beginning on Tuesday. The series will serve as the first meetings of the season between the Giants and the Ports. After this homestand, San Jose plays 24 out of their next 29 games on the road. San Francisco Affiliation This year is San Jose s 29th season as an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants the longest current partnership of any team in the California League.
