1 Standing Assessment Normal Operating Procedures FOR KICC COACHES & LEADERS All KICC leading activity must adhere to the following guidelines and must maintain constant dynamic risk assessments as well as document their consideration of risk prior to each activity. Any activity not adhering to these guidelines must be preceded by a standalone risk assessment submitted prior to the activity. 5 Assessment ID Location of Description of Supporting Factor, proving due diligence Failure to document risk assessment People at Coaches NO KICC will make available a format for daily risk assessments. It is the leader or coaches responsibility to ensure they document the steps they have taken to consider and reduce risk associated with an activity to a suitable level Coaches and 2 3 Poor coaching/ leading practice Lost child, recognition of specific needs of the child Coaches, or helpers over stepping their levels of insurance cover/qualification High No If yes Every child is to pass their membership card on to the group leader at the start of every session. The leader should be familiar with any medical information declared on this form. The card must be given back to the child at pick up time when their parent comes to collect them. At the start of each session and at regular points throughout the ride must conduct a head count to ensure all riders are present. Encouraging riders to buddy up helps ensure all riders are accounted for or that any absences are spotted instantly. In the event a child is noticed as missing the leader should contact all groups by radio use parent helpers or additional to start a search ensuring the safety of the other members of the group. All KICC leading activity must adhere to the guidelines within this risk assessment and must maintain constant dynamic risk assessments. Any activity not adhering to these guidelines must be preceded by a standalone risk assessment which does not run counter to the duty of care and remit of a leader or coaches qualifications. Areas of a severe nature, specifically those requiring full suspension bikes or more than 100mm front travel (@26 wheel) are off limits during KICC sessions. Other out of bounds areas include steep natural sections of trail without a clear run off. Jumps and drops without a rollable option and the Freeride area with the exception of the Essentials trail. Leaders must work within their qualifications and skill level and match the trail to the riders in their group. 5 Road crossings Sections of road may need navigated to access trails,leaders High Leaders to assess danger prior to allowing small groups onto public highways. Leaders and riders should be highly visible by the side of the road and only cross when safe to do so.
7 ID Location of Description of People at 6 Over Use injuries High 7 Overly strenuous training Clip in pedals should be discouraged during training. All should recommend flat pedals to under 16s for all cycling activity that takes part within KICC. Leaders must allow enough rest periods into any activity for the riders to recover. Technical riding should be built into the first part of a session so that less experienced riders do not attempt it when tired. 8 Dehydration / fatigue due to poor nutrition / Leaders should be informed on what makes a suitable snack in a light hearted and informative way during suitable opportunities such as breaks. All riders must bring their own water. Leaders should consider bringing additional water over and above their own requirements (in a clean container) especially on hot or sunny days to give to riders in an emergency. The use by children under 16 of caffeinated or energy products is specifically banned.

For leading the ideal KICC leader to rider ratio is 2 adults to 8-14 children. Whilst one adult to leader to 8 children is acceptable it is recommended to have two per group.

If crossing car parks at other times the risk of traffic is to be treated the same as if on the public highway. At the trails barn there is to be no cycling through the car park. Bikes must be walked between barn and pump track.

All riders must possess sufficient levels of fitness for 2 hrs cycling. Leaders should keep the level of activity appropriate to maintain safety of the whole group. Where one individual needs rest the leader should take action. All participants to take part in stage appropriate training in small groups divided by ability.
