Improvements would address overcrowding on the line, improve integration with the rest of network and boost economic growth in economic hubs along the route, especially Guildford. Full electrification along its length will enable faster and more reliable services from Guildford to Gatwick and Reading, and allow new services to be run incorporating the North Downs line and the rest of the electrified network.
