Proportion of residential housing in these areas should rise from 30% to 66% in A new high-quality public-transport system called Borgarlína will play an important role, linking together the region s urban centres and key growth areas. 16 NEW MOBILITY OPTIONS PUBLICTRANSPORT Capital Area: Bus Network with 27 routes. Bus service increased by 35% with increased frequency on key routes and longer operational hours in minute frequency during peak hours. Route 1 has a 10 minute frequency during peak hours, route 6 has a 15 minute frequency throughout the day.

17 NEW MOBILITY OPTIONS PUBLICTRANSPORT Bus priority lanes in 19 critical locations ( total length 3,8 km) ITS installed at signalized intersections in 2016 and 2017 will give buses extended green time at 30 intersections in Reykjavík (20% of signalized intersections). In 2018, bus operation hours to be extended by an hour (to 1 AM) on weekdays and route 6 will run with 10 minutes headways during peak hours (like route 1).

18 NEW MOBILITY OPTIONS PUBLICTRANSPORT Borgarlína linking together the capital area urban centres and key growth areas. The proposed Borgarlína, a gold standard bus rapid transit system, will travel in dedicated lanes with a 7 minute frequency during the day. Stations will have a raised platform for level boarding, real time information, off-board fare payment equipment and quality bicycle storage to encourage first/last mile biking. 19 NEW MOBILITY OPTIONS PUBLICTRANSPORT The current bus network will be optimized and adapted to the Borgarlína high-quality system, creating a two layer coherent public transport network with seamless connections for the whole area.

22 BORGARLÍNA MULTI CRITERIA ANALYSIS A comprehensive multi-criteria analysis (MCA) of possible Borgarlína alignments completed in the summer of 2017.

23 BORGARLÍNA MULTI CRITERIA ANALYSIS Based on the MCA, seven alignments are recommended and are now being included in a Capital Area Regional Plan revision. In 2040 approx. 55% of the population in the area will live within a 400 m radius from stations in the proposed 58 km network. Following further analysis the final Borgarlína alignments within Reykjavik are scheduled to be adopted in the Reykjavik Municipal Plan.

24 NEW MOBILITY OPTIONS - CYCLING First formal bicycle path (100 m) in Reykjavik constructed in First bicycle strategy for Reykjavik adopted in January The network of designated cycle paths today is approx. 25 km. Paths (excluding sidewalks) for walking and biking have a total length of 400 km. 0,4% of all trips in Reykjavik on a regular day in 2002 were by bike. In 2011 the share was 4,7% and had grown to 5,5% in 2014.

27 NEW MOBILITY OPTIONS - CYCLING Reykjavik Cycling Strategy : A total of 30 km of new bicycle paths to be added. In 2018 the cycling strategy will be reviewed and further bicycle infrastructure investment after 2020 planned and prioritized. Elementary Schools - Bicycle Parking

28 NEW MOBILITY OPTIONS - CYCLING Network of color-coded key cycling routes in the capital area, connecting the main area of employment in Reykjavik to the rest of the urban area defined for prioritizing further investment, operation wayfinding signage etc. WOW citybike with 8 stations and 100 bikes opened in 2017.

29 NEW MOBILITY - PARKING POLICY A comprehensive parking policy is part of the municipal plan for the first time with provisions about maximum number of parking spaces in selected areas
