1 REQUEST FOR QUOTATION 3-10-B037 METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON AIRPORT AUTHORITY SPRINKLER SYSTEM TESTING AND INSPECTION July 22, 2010 RESPONSES TO QUESTIONS 1. Question: At the time of site visit, the engineer mentioned that flow switches, tamper switches, pressure switches, & hi-lo air switches are not to be tested, drum drips are not to be drained, and that only main drain testing should be performed on the wet systems, & pre-action detection is not part of the pre-action sprinkler system inspections. However, each of these tests is required per NFPA 25 & NFPA 72 and your Attachment 01 Statement of Work states that testing should be done in accordance with NFPA standards. Should the NFPA required testing listed above be performed or should we follow the engineer s instructions? Please state the specific scope of work that is to be performed. NFPA required testing will be performed. 2. Question: Provide complete scope of work for foam testing; is full system dump required or just sampling of foam? Both will be required 3. Question: In Attachment 01 Statement of Work, Section II Method of Performance 2 it says that all defects shall be corrected. However, at time of site visit, the engineer said that all repairs are being corrected by Airport Authority personnel. Should defects be corrected by the contractor and if so are these repairs to be billed in addition to the fixed inspection cost or are repairs supposed to be included in the contract? If they are to be included, are the repairs that the contractor is required to perform limited to only repairs needed during the time that the inspection is performed. A quote for all repairs is all that is required by the contractor. 4. Question: In Attachment 01 Statement of Work, Section II Method of Performance 3, it starts by stating that during the project, please define the project period, please define the project period. It also states that any damage is the responsibility of the contractor, is that limited to physical damage or could it include other monetary damages for revenue loss, airline disruption, etc. In addition, it states that the contract is responsible for such damages caused by a sprinkler system being accidently activated, can you describe a scenario that would be the responsibility of the contractor? If there is water leaking or flowing due to the failure of the sprinkler equipment being tested, please confirm that the contractor is not liable for any damages due to equipment failure. Project period is as long as it takes to complete the inspections. As stated in the Statement of Work the contractor will be held liable for any damage done to the system during the inspection. 5. Question: Provide total square footage of all buildings requiring sprinkler head visual inspections? See Attachment 1
