Installing the ibike Pro cadence handlebar mount For the highest accuracy of your ibike Pro it is essential that your ibike is mounted so that it is approximately parallel to the ground, that the ibike s wind sensor is free of obstructions, and that the handlebar mount is tight so that the ibike cannot rotate on your handlebars. Follow these handlebar mounting directions carefully so that you will get best performance from your ibike Pro. 1. Determine where you want to mount your ibike Pro on your handlebars. The ibike should be located in a place where the ibike s front wind port is not blocked by your hands, cables, or by other obstructions that would cause the ibike to read an incorrect wind speed. 2. There are two double-sided-adhesive stickers included with your ibike. They are used to securely fasten the ibike mount top and bottom to your handlebars. The white side has exposed adhesive; the green side has a protective cover under which is the other white adhesive surface. Position the white side of each sticker on the handlebars, one on the top of and the other on the bottom of the handlebars where the ibike mount will go. Once you have positioned the stickers on your handlebars, fasten them to the handlebars by rubbing each with your fingers. DO NOT REMOVE THE GREEN PROTECTIVE STICKER COVERS AT THIS TIME. 3. Position the handlebar mount on the top of your bike so that the ibike label on the handlebar mount is readable when you re sitting on your bike. 4. There are two wired sensors included with your cadence handlebar mount. The sensors have distinctly different wire lengths. The WHEEL SPEED sensor is attached to the SHORTER wire; the CADENCE sensor is attached to the LONGER wire. 5. Locate the shorter-wire, WHEEL SPEED sensor. Neatly wrap the wheel speed sensor wire around the brake cable. Leave enough room at the bottom of the wrap so that you can mount your wheel speed sensor on the bike fork. 6. Fasten the wheel sensor. Place the small rubber grip strip (included) between the wheel pickup and your bike fork. Fasten loosely with a zip tie (included). DO NOT PULL THE ZIP TIE TIGHT! 7. Mount the spoke magnet on the front wheel. Position the magnet on the spoke so that the magnet sweeps directly past the top-center of the wheel pickup no more than ¼ inch from the top center of the sensor. NOTE: When the magnet and sensor are properly positioned you will be able to hear a faint click sound coming from the sensor each time the wheel magnet rotates by the sensor. The clicking sound is normal and indicates that your sensor and magnet are properly positioned. If you can hear the clicking sound then pull the zip tie tight. IF YOU CANNOT HEAR THE FAINT SOUND DO NOT PULL THE ZIP TIE TIGHT UNTIL STEP 15 BELOW. 3

4 8. Next, run the long-length cadence wire along the down tube. Make sure to steer clear of shift wires! 9. Attach the large o-ring around the one side of your cadence sensor: 10. Position the cadence sensor on the chain stay OPPOSITE your front gears, in a location where it will pass close to the cadence magnet. 11. Loosely position the cadence magnet on your crank so that it passes within a few millimeters of the cadence sensor. You don t want the magnet to touch the sensor but you DO want the magnet to pass closely to the sensor. 12. You will probably have to adjust to the location of the cadence sensor and magnet so they will be close enough to each other. Once you re satisfied that the cadence sensor and magnet are positioned properly, wrap the o-ring around the chain stay and hook it into the other end of the cadence sensor. It will look like this: 4

5 13. Now, position your ibike mount top on the handlebars. For maximum watts accuracy you will want the ibike to be approximately parallel to the ground below. The mount doesn t have to be exactly parallel; if it looks level to your eyes it s close enough. Rotate the ibike mount back and forth until you see where it is about parallel to the ground below. Then, take the mount top off the handlebars, REMOVE THE GREEN PROTECTIVE STICKER on the top handlebar, and lightly set the ibike mount top on the sticker in the position where it is nearly parallel to the ground. DON T PRESS DOWN! If you need to reposition the ibike mount a bit to get it parallel go ahead. 14. REMOVE THE GREEN PROTECTIVE STICKER on the bottom of the handlebar. Position the ibike s bottom mount so it lines up with the mount top. When properly positioned lightly press the mount bottom into the white sticker (you can see the bottom white sticker in the photo below). Then, fasten the bottom handlebar mount to the top mount with screws. Tighten the screws until the mount is securely fastened (that is, the mount can t rotate on the handlebars). 5

Attach the ibike Pro to the handlebar mount by setting it on the handlebar mount as shown below (as you sit on your seat, pointed towards 10 o clock), and then rotate it clockwise until it is pointed straight ahead. You will hear it click when it is locked into position. 15. Finally, spin the front wheel of the bike. You should see the bike speed indicator (top window) register a number. If you don t see the ibike indicate bike speed then check the location and spacing of the sensor and magnet. Refer to step 6 above and move the sensor/magnet combination until bike speed registers on the ibike. Once you see the bike speed indicator operate, tighten the zip strip on the wheel speed sensor. 6

7 TIP: SOME OF YOU MAY PREFER TO USE 1 OR 2 MILLIMETER THICK RUBBER STRIPS (AVAILABLE AT YOUR BIKE SHOP) TO CREATE A TIGHT GRIP BETWEEN THE IBIKE AND THE HANDLEBARS. THAT IS PERFECTLY OK, AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A SOLID MOUNT THAT DOES NOT ROTATE. TIP: IF YOU CAN ROCK YOUR IBIKE FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS ON YOUR HANDLEBAR MOUNT, YOU HAVEN T MOUNTED IT SOLIDLY ENOUGH! 7

8 Mounting the ibike Pro on a time-trial bike The most important factor in getting good performance of your ibike on a time-trial bike is making sure your ibike has a clear view of the wind. This can be a problem if you re using aero bars; the turbulence created by the extensions and your hands extending in front of the bars. Fortunately, it is possible to position your ibike properly on a time trial bike. To use the ibike on a TT bike you ll need the following: 1) A Topeak Xtender mount: 2) A standard size ibike Handlebar mount (available from or your local bike shop) With these two items you can mount the ibike beneath your aero bar extension. The attached photos show one suggested setup: 8

10 Firmware requirements For your ibike Pro power meter to report cadence measurements, your ibike firmware needs to be version 1.08 or higher. You can check your firmware in the ibike s setup screen or in your ibike Ride Analysis software application. If your firmware reads 1.08 or higher you re all set; if your firmware version is 1.07 or less, you will need to update your firmware to the latest version. You can obtain the latest version of ibike firmware at: If you need assistance installing new firmware please consult your ibike Ride Analysis software manual (Windows or Mac version as appropriate), included on your ibike CD. Once you have firmware version 1.08 (or higher) installed on your ibike, you re set to go! 10

11 USING THE CADENCE FUNCTION ON YOUR IBIKE PRO POWER METER Cadence Display After you ve installed your ibike Cadence mount and have firmware version 1.08 or higher installed on your ibike, you re all set to use the ibike s cadence feature. Cadence (measured in revolutions per minute, or RPM) will appear on your power screen. In the bottom window of your power screen, calories (CAL) will automatically change to Cadence (RPM) as soon as you begin pedaling your bike. You can tell your ibike is reporting cadence because the icon RPM will appear in the bottom window. Cadence will be recorded in your ibike ride file so it can be downloaded and analyzed later-on. Calorie Display Since calories are not displayed in the power screen, you ll find your calorie measurement moved over to the first Totals screen (left arrow). On the first Totals screen will be your energy consumption, expressed both in kilojoules (KJ) and calories (Cal) Other changes related to cadence Under all circumstances power readings will automatically drop to zero whenever the cyclist is not pedaling. 11

12 TROUBLESHOOTING Problem: Bike speed does not display properly Possible causes: 1) You have not installed the optional cadence handlebar mount on your bike. 2) Cadence sensor has been installed on front fork. 3) the ibike is not completely twisted on to the handlebar mount. 4) The spoke magnet is not properly positioned. See installation instructions. 5) The wheel pickup sensor is not properly mounted. See installation instructions. 6) Wheel speed sensor is defective. or call ibike technical support for assistance. Problem: Cadence does not display properly Possible causes: 1) Cadence sensor has been installed on front fork. 2) the ibike is not completely twisted on to the handlebar mount. 3) The cadence magnet is not properly positioned on the pedal stem. See installation instructions. 4) The cadence pickup sensor is not properly mounted. See installation instructions. 5) Cadence speed sensor is defective. or call ibike technical support for assistance. 6) Your ibike s firmware version is 1.07 or earlier. 7) Your ibike is not set to show the power screen.
