Wait until you hear a new report out today 00:16:41 [CC] 00:38:03 It can be a pretty rough ride on western New York s aging roads and bridges, especially in the winter And those bumpy rides can really take a toll on your car News 4 s Don Postles joins us now with this story for your bottom line Don Lisa, it s a very disturbing report on the conditions of local roads and bridges These findings are coming from a non-profit research group in Washington called TRIP and local officials are hoping it s getting the attention of state leaders Triple-a of western New York sponsored the news conference today Frank Moretti from the TRIP organization says one of the reasons our roads and bridges are in such bad shape is because 35-percent of the money for transportation repairs are going to pay for previous projects If the conditions don t improve, more people will be killed on the highways We estimate that statewide in New York that motorists are paying an additional 164 billion dollars a year in additional operating cost in additional time lost or travel delays and the additional cost of traffic crashes where there was a lack of adequate safety precautions on the roadways themselves Butt to we found that approximately a quarter of the roads are congested, causing delays and in the last year 84 people were killed in traffic crashes in the Buffalo area These findings are causing several local members of the state legislature to call on Governor Paterson to restore funding for road and bridge projects in western New York that were cut out of the budget in financial meltdown 00:43:03

2 5 7 News At Noon DMA: 52 WKBW-TV CH 7 (ABC) Buffalo 01/14/ :00 PM - 12:30 PM [CC] 00:12:06 And the findings are out from Triple A-when it comes to western New York road and bridge conditions Among the information-is what the report reveals is an average of one thousand dollars-spent by drivers in western New York-as a result of driving on deteriorated roads And-nearly one third of the roads in the area are said to be deteriorated and so are a quarter of the bridges 00:14: News This Morning 6 AM DMA: 52 WKBW-TV CH 7 (ABC) Buffalo [CC] 00:04:44 Today-the Triple-A will be releasing the results of a new report that puts Buffalo s road bridge conditions microscope Under the study also road congestion, looks at local transportation traffic safety and funding 00:06: News This Morning 5 AM DMA: 52 WKBW-TV CH 7 (ABC) Buffalo 01/14/ :00 AM - 06:00 AM [CC] 00:03:44 Today-the Triple-A will be releasing the results of a new report that puts Buffalo s road bridge conditions under the microscope The study also looks at local road congestion, transportation traffic safety and funding 00:05:27 8 NewsChannel 13 Live At 5:30 DMA: 57 WNYT-TV CH 13 (NBC) Albany/Schenectady/Troy 01/14/ :30 PM - 06:00 PM [CC] 00:09:41 A new report says poor roads and bridges are costing the average capital region driver over a thousand dollars a year I m Beth Wurtmann in Albany How a coalition says the state can fix the problem 00:10:31 [CC] 00:13:14 Roads in bad condition, bridges that need repair A new report says these are some of the factors that are hitting capital region drivers with unnecessary costs News channel's' Beth Wurtmann tells us what one coalition thinks should be done about it Bridget Lee just replaced the brakes on her car She says because of wear and tear from the roads You never know where you can drive And even around the potholes, it s just a mess It s brutal! Now a new report from a national transportation organization called TRIP, says worsening roads and bridges are costing capital region drivers over $1100 a year, in repairs, traffic crashes, extra operating costs and congestion-related delays The reality is the roads are deteriorating faster than they re able to fund their repairs So what that leads to, is roads that are increasingly deteriorated, congested, and not as safe as they could be But the state agency in charge of maintaining roads and bridges says it has only heard about problems, and not solutions The state transportation department responded to the report, saying it doesn t identify the revenues needed Even with a looming state budget deficit, these state and federal advocates say a fund dedicated to improving infrastructure could be better used And they re calling on lawmakers to make roads and bridges a priority 00:14:42 9 NewsChannel 13 Live At 5 DMA: 57 WNYT-TV CH 13 (NBC) Albany/Schenectady/Troy 01/14/ :00 PM - 05:30 PM [CC] 00:12:41 Plus, those potholes and crumbling bridges are not just a safety threat, they re costing you money How hard they re hitting your pocket 00:13:46 [CC] 00:19:09 A new report finds that worsening roads and bridges in the capital region are costing the average driver over a thousand dollars in extra repairs and delays TRIP a Washington-based transportation group joined with a New York coalition for road improvements to call for more funding They say, nearly half of the region s major roads are in poor or mediocre shape, and twenty seven percent of the area s bridges are structurally deficient or no longer meet design standards for safety 00:19:53
