6 Changing road user behavior... Changing road user behavior requires a combination of diverse measures including Education Awareness campaigns Robust enforcement Infrasture measures Consistant and visible political and social leadership for road safety People must understand (rationally) and feel (emotionally) why they must be safe road users Individual responsibility for using the roads safely is crucial 6

7 Interviews Interviews will be conducted National network to understand driver knowledge and opinion about key risks such as speed, alcohol, seat-belts and fatigue Pilot networks to understand local knowledge and opinion about key risks and key risk locations To generate ownership and awareness for the ROSEE project Information gathered in both sets of interviews will be used to inform the content of the project so that activities are appropriate to the local situation 7

8 Internet tool The tool allows: 1. support for developing, creating and designing an online questionnaires 2. the carrying out of online surveys, data collection and sending of invitations 3. online statistical analysis of data and the generation of various reports 8

12 Pilots Primary network Primary network Road user behaviour focus (communications + enforcement) Key object is to strengthen cooperation between police and other stakeholders on delivering a multipronged road user behaviour intervention Creation of leaflet on key issues such as legislation and penalties, guidance to drivers on how to manage fatigue; information on key risks like speed, alcohol, safety-belts The content will be informed by the interviews (5.1) and best practice Dissemination at rest stops and 1 event Supported by website and other media 12

13 Pilots secondary networks Develop 3 year multi-component strategy for improving the road safety performance of the high-risk secondary segment Strategy will identify responsible agencies, objectives, priorities.
