2 Intrductin Trains require prtectin in all circumstances if: they need assistance, r they bstruct, r might bstruct, adjacent lines, r the line is bstructed. Trains may require prtectin if delayed in track-circuited territry. Prtecting a delayed train in track-circuited territry Train Crew If pssible, get the Signaller s assurance that immediately fllwing rail traffic has been r will be stpped. N further prtectin is necessary if: the Signaller has given an assurance that immediately fllwing rail traffic has been r will be stpped a train r track vehicle is standing at a signal at STOP behind the delayed train, and the Driver r track vehicle peratr has given an assurance that they will nt pass that signal. Place prtectin if: the Driver r track vehicle peratr has nt given an assurance that rail traffic standing at the signal behind the delayed train will nt pass the signal, and yu cannt speak t the Signaller t get their assurance that immediately fllwing rail traffic has been r will be stpped. 4 Prtecting a train needing assistance A stpped train that needs assistance frm anther train needs t be prtected. Train Crew Secure the train. Tell the Netwrk Cntrl Officer that this has been dne. Ask the Netwrk Cntrl Officer abut the directin frm which assistance will apprach. Assisting frm behind N further prtectin is necessary if: the assistance will cme frm behind, and anther train is standing at a signal at STOP within 500m behind the train needing assistance. If there is n train standing at a signal at STOP within 500m behind the train needing assistance, place three detnatrs n the line at the nearer f: 500m behind the train, r the first signal at STOP behind the train. If assistance is expected frm the ppsing directin, place three detnatrs n the line 500m frward f the train in the expected directin f assistance. Netwrk Cntrl Officer 11. If advice is nt included in a Prceed Authrity, give the Drivers f assisting trains a Cnditin Affecting the Netwrk (CAN) warning. 6 Prtecting adjacent r bstructed lines Prtectin is needed fr bstructed lines, r fr the lines adjacent t disabled rail vehicles if the vehicles are r might be ful f the lines. NOTE If pssible, give an emergency call t warn appraching rail traffic. Train Crew r Qualified Wrker Ask the Netwrk Cntrl Officer t: stp appraching rail traffic, and set signals at STOP with blcking facilities applied. If in track-circuited territry: fasten a track-circuit shrting clip t the heads f the rails f the adjacent r bstructed lines, and if pssible, cnfirm that affected signals shw STOP. WARNING D nt rely n track-circuit shrting clips as the nly safety measure Get an assurance that ther trains in the sectins have been stpped. If the Netwrk Cntrl Officer cannt give an assurance that rail traffic has been r will be stpped: place three detnatrs n the affected adjacent lines, 500m frm the bstructing train in the directins f pssible apprach by rail traffic, and place tw detnatrs n the affected adjacent lines at a further 2000m in the directins f pssible apprach by rail traffic. 8 Prtecting trains near tunnels Fllw these steps if a tunnel is near the area t be prtected. NOTE D nt place detnatr prtectin inside tunnels. Train Crew Talk t the Netwrk Cntrl Officer and: ask them t have cntrlled signals n affected lines set and kept at STOP with blcking facilities applied, and get an assurance that ther trains in affected sectins have been stpped. If the stpped train is clser than 500m t a tunnel, place: three detnatrs n affected lines at the near pening f the tunnel, and a secnd grup f three detnatrs n affected lines beynd the far pening f the tunnel, and tw detnatrs at a further 2000m in the directin f rail traffic apprach.
