1 APEEJAY SCHOOL, SAKET Holiday Home Work( ) Class: IV Dear Parent The greatest gift, you can bestow upon your children is your time and undivided attention. The summer vacation gives you a chance to spend time with your children. The assignments in this collection are designed such that each child stays connected in a fun way to school so that life s learning doesn t take a back seat. Each assignment has guidelines. Please allow your child to complete them with your guidance. You are, your child s, first teacher. Give you child uninterrupted time to share, read and enjoy while you also make them responsible by allowing them to participate and lend a helping hand at home.encourage them to play a game outdoors, listen to music, read a book, share his/her experiences, eat healthy and sleep on time. If you want your child to turn out well, Spend twice as much time with them And half as much money. Wish you a happy vacation. NOTE: The school has linked the project Modes of Transport within the City : Delhi and Amsterdam, for the International School Awards (ISA). All the work has to be compiled in a folder.

2 English Task 1 Read or watch the story of Mr Grumpy s Motor Car ( Write an adventure story on any one of the following : Imagine that you could fly? Where would you go? And what would you do? Imagine a place in the world that you would really like to visit. What would you do there? If you were caught in a hot air balloon, what adventures would the balloon take you on and how would you eventually return to earth? Read these questions so it will help you write the outline and get a clear picture about the different ways the story could start. Such as: Who could be the main character in your story? An animal? A person? A make-believe character? What problem might need to get solved? When does the story happen? One winter? Last Tuesday? Yesterday? Where does the story take place? In the kitchen? Under your bed? At the soccer field? On a strange planet? Add some funny situations to make the story interesting. Finally wrap up the story in a creative way. Task 2 Read the following passage about wheels and answer the questions that follow:

3 Getting about in cars, trains or planes are a very modern method of transport. It has taken us a very long time to invent these forms of convenient transportation. Hundreds of years ago, the only way to get from one place to another was riding animals such as elephants, camels, donkeys or horses, until the wheel was invented. Wheels today are used on all sorts of vehicles from bikes to skateboards. We believe that the first wheels invented were to help move objects that were very heavy. Humans discovered that something heavy was more easily moved by something round and by rolling it. Eventually wheels were developed for carts and wagons. The wheel is probably the most mechanical invention of all time. Wheels with spokes are thought to have first appeared in Egypt on chariots around 2000 BC. Just try and imagine the world today without the wheel, not only in transportation but also in other technology. Important applications include the water wheel, the cogwheel and the spinning wheel. More modern applications include the jet engine, the propeller and the turbine. a. What were the means of transport before the wheel was invented? b.why did people feel the need to invent the wheel? b. Where are wheels used? c. Imagine a day when all the wheels of vehicles disappear.what would happen? What would you do?
