We are people who want to do something about ms now About MS /// Multiple sclerosis interrupts the flow of information from the brain to the body and stops people from moving. Every hour in the United States, some-one is newly diagnosed with MS, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with more than twice as many women as men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 400,000 people in the U.S., and 2.1 million worldwide. About the National MS Society /// The National MS Society helps people affected by MS by funding cutting-edge research, driving change through advocacy, facilitating professional education, and providing programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. 3 MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS: THE FACTS Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with MS. MS affects more than 400,000 people in the U.S. and 2.1 million worldwide. MS is the No.1 disabling disease among young adults in the U.S. Country Roads 2011 This year the Blue Ridge Chapter will host its 21st annual Bike MS Country Roads Ride. This annual ride will attract nearly 300 cyclists and is expected to raise $200,000 to help create a world free of multiple sclerosis. The two-day bicycling adventure offers three route options: a 60 mile Lodge Loop, a 140 mile Road Route, and a 120 mile Trail Trek along the Greenbrier River Trail. With all the excitement of the weekend, the Bike MS offers a unique advertising and marketing opportunity for sponsors. The Country Roads Ride, takes our cyclists through the scenic areas of Greenbrier and Pocahontas counties in southern West Virginia. Sneaking a peak at Senator Rockefeller s country side home, our road cyclists take in some of West Virginia s most beautiful territory. Our ride begins at the Greenbrier Resort where cyclists pedal to Snowshoe Mountain for an overnight celebration before returning to the finish line picnic on the Greenbrier lawn. Unlike racing events, this event is designed to provide a scenic, challenging route for both the experienced cyclist and the energetic novice. Sharing the vision /// Every year thousands of companies join the movement in an effort to help us move forward in developing new treatments and programs for people with multiple sclerosis through corporate teams, sponsorship opportunities and direct contributions. This logo will be used on printed materials throughout the 2011 Bike season. Brochures - 15,000 printed Bike MS brochures are distributed to various locations in West Virginia. ship levels will determine whether logo placement will be on the front, back, or inside of the brochure. Bike MS brochures recruit the majority of our participants. Local NMSS Website - Viewed by thousands of regional event participants and tens of thousands of regional and national donors. Posters are displayed on store windows and in corporate locations to recruit riders and create awareness. Rest Stops - Are located every 8-12 miles. Each Bike MS Rest Stop provides refreshments, snacks, medical care, bike mechanics and port-o-lets. Cyclists are always happy to see the smiles and hear the cheers from volunteers as they pull into each Rest Stop. We encourage each Rest Stop to make their stop unique by incorporating a theme that will create a festive atmosphere and encourage riders.
