1 Ride Vätternrundan with Team CFC. Thursday 11th Sunday 14th June 2015 In 2014 the 23,000 places for the event sold out in just 12 minutes! This year marks the 50 th anniversary of the event, which started back in 1966 with just 334 riders!

The Vätternrundan, little known outside of Scandinavia, is a non-competitive event (or as the Swedes call it, a motionslopp ) over a 300km course in one of the most breath-taking areas of Northern

2 The Vätternrundan, little known outside of Scandinavia, is a non-competitive event (or as the Swedes call it, a motionslopp ) over a 300km course in one of the most breath-taking areas of Northern Europe. Tracing the shores of the spectacular Lake Vättern in Sweden, the ride is open to riders over the age of 18 of all abilities, and last year attracted 23,000 participants. In 2006 Cyclists Fighting Cancer took just 15 riders, this year due to demand, we are offering 30 riders the chance to pull on the uniform of Team CFC. The complete package costs * with no minimum fundraising limit. The package includes scheduled BA flights from Heathrow, transfers, entry, accommodation, support and CFC team kit. Also included is overland transfer of your bike, the bike will be collected the week prior to the event and transported via road and ferry. This saves any hassle with bike boxes/bags and ensures build up is simple on arrival in Sweden. There is no fundraising obligation, we simply ask that people try to raise as much as they can for our unique charity. In 2011, 2013 and 2014, 25 riders of all abilities took on the challenge with everyone making it back in one piece, a little jaded but exhilarated by their achievement, and managing to raise over 120,000 between them! *Please note that the fee is for solely the cost of the trip and CFC makes no profit on this amount.

The location is outstanding, placing us right at the heart of the event and removing the problem of lengthy transfers to and from the start and finish line.

3 Itinerary 2015 Thursday 11th June Flying from Heathrow airport we fly into Stockholm Arlanda Airport with the rest of Team CFC. From there we take the executive coach transfer to Motala, on the shores of Lake Vättern, and get settled into the accommodation. The bikes will arrive via road around the same time. The location is outstanding, placing us right at the heart of the event and removing the problem of lengthy transfers to and from the start and finish line. The Stugors, traditional Swedish log cabins (pictured below), are located just 50 metres from a beach on the lake. They are equipped with a set of bunks in one bedroom and twin beds in the other, as well as a double sofa bed and fully equipped kitchen. We assign a maximum of four people in each cabin but usually three. All the Stugors are located in close proximity to one another, meaning we are available to help each other with bike set up etc.

Rest and relaxation, and perhaps a little bike maintenance, are usually the order of the day. 7.

4 Friday 12th June AM - Travel by free bus into town to registration and expo, collect shirt numbers and timing chips. The rest of the day is for your leisure giving a great opportunity for a swim in the lake or the swimming pool, or just resting and filling up the carbohydrate reserves. Rest and relaxation, and perhaps a little bike maintenance, are usually the order of the day. 7.30pm - Team gathers in ride kit for the traditional team photo before the yet to be confirmed start time approaches. We then cruise down to the start/finish area. Riders are sent off in batches around 60 and as the complimentary Cyclists Fighting Cancer kit attracts plenty of attention, so don t be surprised if you get your picture taken! Ride Time 8.30pm. We all start together but there is absolutely no pressure to keep any pace, you ride as you feel comfortable. There are so many others riding you will soon find a bunch with similar abilities to join. Vätternrundan organisers have been running the event since 1966 so, as you d imagine, they have the whole thing running pretty smoothly by now. There is numerous food and rest stops along the route and you can even stop for a complimentary massage if you want!

In addition to the rest stops there are plenty of marshals on hand to take care of any difficulties you may have, and if you have mechanical problems they will do everything they can to get you back

Crowds of spectator s line the roads in the towns during the first few hours cheering all the riders on, making it feel more like the Tour de France! Then there s the spectacular sunset and sunrise to look forward to the darkness lasts around two hours only. There s the huge sense of camaraderie you can only get from riding as part of a group, within an event of 23,000 others. The fact that the other cyclists taking part are fluent in English makes the whole thing extremely friendly and guarantees you will not feel isolated as can sometimes be the case in other sportives. Everyone looks to help each other. SUCCESS! Then, as you roll into the finish and take the plaudits of your team mates there is the knowledge that you have completed one of the most memorable cycle rides in the world. You even get a medal, a massage and a free beer! What more could you ask for?

6 Saturday 13th June You ll reach the finish between 6am and? on Saturday, being part of the Cyclists Fighting Cancer party we ll be there to meet you and from there you need only roll 2km back to the accommodation (other riders are prohibited from driving for 6 hours and must mill around the finish until cleared by officials). The remainder of Saturday is spent, unsurprisingly, eating, catching up on some much needed rest and relaxing. Saturday evening usually means a group bus ride into town for a meal, followed by drinks and with tired legs permitting, maybe even a spell on the dance floor at Harry s Bar. Sunday 14th June Breakfast Buffet at the nearby Pool café and bike load before 11am when the coach arrives for the transfer to Stockholm, flights are scheduled to arrive back in the UK by 8pm.
