1 Czech Cesky Krumlov to Prague along the Vltave River Bike Tour 2019 Guided or Individual Self-Guided 8 days / 7 nights Greenways is the name of the most beautiful bike trail, connecting Prague to Vienna. For the first part of the trail from Prague to Cesky Krumlov, you will travel by minibus or car. We leave Prague early in the morning in order to have sufficient time to explore the best preserved medieval town in Europe, Cesky Krumlov. If you cannot wait to get on the bike you can cycle 26 km long round trip up to Klet hill from Cesky Krumlov on the first day. During the following days, we will travel through the lands of the Trebon ponds, and through the woods on the border with Austria called Czech Canada. You will visit the Renaissance towns of Trebon and Telc and many others. The trail will take you through the vineyards of South Moravia, where you will lodge in the cultural centres of the region, Znojmo and Mikulov. The whole trip ends in Vienna. The programme for the tour consists of a ride from Prague to Vienna and ends with a night in Vienna. The tour from Prague to Vienna combines biking and minibus transfers so that you can visit all the famous historical sites along the way and have a pleasant ride through the beautiful landscapes of Southern Bohemia and Moravia.

2 Itinerary Day to Day Day 1: Transfer to Cesky Krumlov by shuttle 170 km, the starting point of the tour Cesky Krumlov is a medieval town registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List. After adjusting bicycles and a test ride you will have free time to see the world renowned medieval and Renaissance town of Cesky Krumlov, with its famous castle gardens. Day 2: Cesky Krumlov - Hluboka nad Vltavou km by bike Optional visit of Český Krumlov Castle, then we take a route along the scenic valley of the Vltava River. The first site to visit on the way is the monastery Zlata Koruna (the Golden Crown). We continue to České Budějovice (Budweis), optional tour with tasting. You stay overnight in Hluboká nad Vltavou. Neo-gothic Chateau Hluboká nad Vltavou is perhaps the most romantic chateau in the Czech Republic. Extension possible to visit also Holašovice village (UNESCO Heritage site). Day 3: Hluboka nad Vltavou Pisek 53 km by bicycle We will pass the nuclear power station Temelin and ride on to Písek, a picturesque town on the Otava River. The main attraction of Písek is a stone bridge from 13th century - the oldest stone bridge in central Europe. Day 4: Pisek - Pribram km by bicycle This is the longest distance of the tour. You can choose between paved path and partly off-road route. We will pass by Orlik castle, where you can take a tour to see its splendidly decorated rooms. At the end of the day s ride, you will arrive in Příbram. The town has been an important mining centre since the middle Ages. However, the more recent history of the town is rather chilling. Many political prisoners were forced to work at the Příbram uranium mines during the Communist regime.

3 Day 5: Pribram - Zebrak (Zbiroh - premium option) 37 km by bicycle We will visit a 14th - 17th century pilgrimage church with a monastery, Svata Hora (Holy Mountain), working camp or mine museum in the morning. Then we will continue the ride through this picturesque region. We will cycle through an extensive former military area in the beautiful forested hills of Brdy. You will cycle "in the middle of nowhere" on 9 metre wide paved roads used by the army in the past. Premium option ends at Zbiroh chateau from the 13th century where you will stay over a night. Day 6: Zebrak - Karlstejn 42 km by bicycle Zbiroh Karlstejn 48 km (premium option) We will cycle from Žebrák to the impressive 14th century ruins of Tocnik Castle. The middle part of the day leads through forested rolling hills. Shortly afterwards, we will arrive at Beroun. This is a medieval town in the heart of the Karstejn district with romantic valleys, caves, pits and localities where pre-historic fossils can still be found. The remaining part of the day follows the Berounka River through the romantic valley all the way to Karlštejn village. The premium option starts in Zbiroh and joins the standard route in 11 km at Tocnik Castle. Day 7: Karlstejn - Prague 40 km by bicycle Optional visit of Karlštejn castle. The Czech King and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV had built it as an impregnable fortress housing the imperial crown jewels and the most sacred relics. The rest of the route is very easy as it leads along of the Berounka River and the Vltava River banks to Prague Day 8: Prague Breakfast, transfer to the Prague airport to catch your plane, unless you decide to prolong your holiday in the Czech Republic.

4 Route Technical Characteristics: Tour Profile: Moderate. Nature lovers will enjoy long paved and unpaved sections without traffic through forests as well special paved cycling paths along rivers. Terrain is slightly rolling broken by flat section on river banks. The route follows small country roads with virtually no traffic and off-road biking trails with firm surfaces.
