2 Prescribed criteria Pedestrian crossings BS EN 12368:2006 as currently specified TR2500 performance requirements BS EN 50556: 2011 BS EN 12675: 2001 New VMS standard BS EN performance requirements Amber times Pedestrian Crossing Regulations merged into TSRGD. Countdown signals included Option of new smaller push-button design Need to notify Secretary of State removed Pelican crossings What is a pedex? These will not be included in TSRGD Will not affect existing crossings can stay until they are life-expired No new pelican crossings Still a far-side option available 2

4 Advanced Stop Lines Signing Lead-in lane/gate at ASLs optional cyclists can cross 1 st stop line anywhere Part-width ASLs ASLs at stand-alone crossings Depth increased to 7.5m Smaller signs for cycle routes Removing illumination requirement for signs for cycle tracks and adjacent/shared use paths Elephant s footprints Cycle lanes through zig-zags Elephant s footprints are used to indicate a route through a signal controlled junction Will be prescribed for this use Will include option to offset the zig-zags by up to 2m from the kerb Allows space for cycling through crossing controlled areas 4

5 Parallel pedestrian/cyclist crossing: Armadillos and other separators Developed out of workshop with cycling and walking stakeholders NOTE: This can only be used when new TSRGD is in force We cannot authorise it in advance of that DfT s view: the Zicla type are not traffic signs, and therefore do not need authorisation. Traffic wands/flexible poles are similar Traffic authorities need to satisfy themselves they have powers to use them and assess any potential risks Be aware - some supplier designs may mimic a road marking/traffic sign What will not be in TSRGD Red arrows Turn left on red Flashing amber for junction control Bus aspects Low-level signals for traffic other than pedal cycles Amber arrows Narrow wig-wags (drawing NP will still authorise) 5

6 Guidance Traffic Signs Manual New DfT Circular Explains the changes and new structure, with examples Traffic Advisory Leaflets: Reducing sign clutter Variable Message Signs Traffic Bollards All-new Chapter 6 Traffic Signals and Crossings This will update/replace existing TALs, LTNs Other chapters also updated 3 and 5 as priorities We will seek to provide as much as we can to coincide with the new TSRGD.
