3 1. Introduction TMK is one of the largest producers of high quality steel pipe for the oil and gas industry. As the industry continues to evolve, many applications require directional and horizontal drilling in HTHP environments that push the performance envelope of conventional API threads. TMK supplies customers with some of the strongest premium connections backed by extensive technical support. Understanding the changing dynamics in the world s oil and gas market, TMK entered the U.S. market in 2008 with the acquisition of the IPSCO tubular group, which included the former NS Group. Referred as TMK IPSCO, the company has eleven premier manufacturing facilities spread throughout the U.S. The facilities produce seamless/erw OCTG and the ULTRA line of premium connections which include the ULTRA-FJ, ULTRA SF, ULTRA-FX, ULTRA-CX, ULTRA-QX and ULTRA- DQX. ULTRA premium connections are internationally recognized for their superior strength in extended reach HTHP wells and have been used extensively in North America. In addition to the ULTRA line of premium connections, TMK also offers its own group of premium connections including the TMK-GF, TMK-PF, TMK-PF ET, TMK-FMC, TMK-CS, TMK-TTL-01, TMK-1 and TMK-FMT. 5 Application Guide Outstanding tension, compression, bending and torsional strength ensure that the TMK Premium connections perform in the most challenging of deviated wells. Both the Integral and Threaded and Coupled connections are designed for the most challenging of well designs. Features Tension and Compression TMK Premium s patented thread forms are designed to take the heavy loading applied to both deep vertical wells and horizontal extended reach wells. TMK Premium s Integral Joint Connections exhibit tension and compression strengths ranging from 70% to 90% of the pipe body strength. The Threaded and Coupled connections exhibit 100% pipe body strength. TMK Premium s connections are subjected to the rigorous ISO test program to ensure the strength of the connection. Differing well designs and conditions determine the criteria needed to ensure high performance in the well. 2.1 Application Guide Bending In highly deviated horizontal wells, bending of the well string becomes critical to ensure successful completion. The ability of the TMK Premium patented thread designs to withstand the stresses, combined with the use of metal-metal seals, guarantees gas tightness and performance strength. Torsional Strength Rotation of the well string in deviated wells with long laterals has increased the need for connections with exceptionally high resistance to torsional overload. The TMK PF-ET and the ULTRA SF are two examples where high torsion strength, high tension and compression strength and the ability to withstand high bend radii, results in a full package solution to complex well designs. pic. 1 pic TMK

7 Options 2.2 Options Special Clearance The connections can be supplied with special clearance couplings with smaller outside diameters. In this case, the area of the critical coupling cross section is less than the area of the critical pin cross section (pic 3). To ensure adequate strength, the special coupling should be a higher grade than the pin. 8 Special Bevel Tubing Connections. Integral Options Upon request, couplings can be produced with a 20 Special Bevel that reduces down hole hang-ups and provides for smoother running (pic 4). When using couplings with the special bevel, spiders and slip elevators must be used for running a casing string. This coating provides extra protection from corrosion during delivery and long-term storage and protects from wearing during make-up. Threaded and Coupled Design Description Thread Form TMK FMT has a trapezium thread profile with the following parameters: 2 1/2 and 2 7/8 OD pipes have pitch and taper 1:16; 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 OD pipes have pitch and taper 1:16; +10 stabbing flank provides trouble-free make-up and reduces cross-threading; +3 tension load flank for both diameters provides improved performance during tensile and bending stress. Cone-and-Cone Internal Metal Seal 30 internal metal-to-metal seal offers excellent sealing capacity under the most severe stresses. Sealing integrity retains its properties even after numerous make-ups and break-outs. Internal Torque Shoulder 15 internal torque shoulder provides effective protection against over torquing. 26 TMK GF Application Field TMK GF is a premium connection with extra gas tightness properties used for the construction and operation of directional and horizontal wells with excessive concentration of CO 2 and H 2 S. cone γ Pitch 5,08 Design Description Thread Form The connection has a hooked thread profile with pitch 5.08 and taper 1:16; +24 stabbing and compression load flank provides for easy stabbing, fast make-up and reduces cross threading; -4 tension load flank prevents the possibility of thread jump-out, reduces thread radial tension and improves wearing resistance and make-up properties of the connection. The tensile strength of the connection is nearly equal to the tensile strength of the pipe body. Sphere-and-Cone Internal Metal Seal +15 internal metal-to-metal seal offers excellent gas tightness even under the most severe stresses. Seal integrity keeps its properties even after numerous make-ups and break-outs due h m h t h t < h m to fast Run-in/Run-out in the contact area. sphere ϕ α β Parallel line to the thread axis 1 : Internal Torque Shoulder +15 internal shoulder consists of pin and box conical surfaces and ensures an additional sealing barrier and provides effective protection against over torquing. Both radii of the thread cross sections are spaced to obtain contact with the straight part of the thread bearing face in order to improve wear resistance and abrasive wear resistance of the thread when made-up/broken-out. TMK PF Application Field TMK PF is a premium connection with extra gas tightness properties used for the construction and operation of directional and horizontal wells within corrosive environments. Cone γ Pitch 5,08 Design Description Thread Form The connection has a hooked thread profile with pitch 5.08 and taper 1:16; +24 stabbing and compression load flank provides for easy stabbing, fast make-up and reduces cross threading; -4 tension load flank prevents the possibility of thread jump-out, reduces thread radial tension and improves wearing resistance and make-up properties of the connection. The tensile strength of the connection is nearly equal to the tensile strength of the pipe body. Cone-and-Cone Internal Metal Seal +18 cone-and-cone internal metal-to-metal seal offers excellent gas tightness even under the most severe stresses. Seal integrity keeps its properties even after numerous make-ups and break-outs due to fast Run-in/Run-out in the contact area. Cone ϕ α β Parallel line to the thread axis 1:16 Gap 20 Internal Torque Shoulder +15 internal shoulder consists of pin and box conical surfaces and ensures an additional extra sealing barrier and provides effective protection against over torquing. Both radii of the thread cross sections are spaced to obtain contact with the straight part of the thread bearing face in order to improve wear resistance and abrasive wear resistance of the thread when made-up/broken-out. TMK PF ET has high resistance to extreme bending, compresion stresses and excessive torque. TMK PF ET is ideal for drilling with casing in high torque conditions. γ Pitch 5,08 Design Description Thread Form The connection has a hooked thread profile with pitch 5.08 and taper 1:16; +24 stabbing and compression load flank provides for easy stabbing, fast make-up and reduces cross threading; -4 tension load flank prevents the possibility of thread jump-out, reduces thread radial tension and improves wearing resistance and make-up properties of the connection. The tensile strength of the connection is nearly equal to the tensile strength of pipe body. Cone-and-Cone Internal Metal Seal +18 radial internal metal-to-metal seal offers excellent gas tightness even under the most severe stresses. Seal integrity retains its properties even after numerous make-ups and break- Cone ϕ outs due to fast Run-in/Run-out in the contact area. α β Gap Internal Torque Shoulder 1: internal shoulder consists of pin and box conical surfaces and ensures an additional extra Parallel line to the thread axis e sealing barrier and provides effective protection against over torquing. Both radii of the thread cross section are spaced to obtain contact with the straight part of the thread bearing face in order to improve wear resistance and abrasive wear resistance of the thread when made-up/broken-out. Optimized gapping between pin and box load flanks improves resistance to compression load and prevents damage to the seal.
