2 DALMAC 48 th Annual Dick Allen Lansing To Mackinaw Bicycle Tour August 29 September 2, 2018 New This Year: 2 day trail ride Special women s jersey Free event t-shirt for all registered riders DALMAC is ebike friendly Opportunity to support the DALMAC fund All routes end in Mackinaw City What Is DALMAC? The Dick Allen Lansing to MACkinaw Bicycle Tour is Michigan s annual, fully supported, epic end-of-summer bicycle camping tour. Multiple routes wind northward through the countryside and quaint small towns, East Lansing (for the 4 and 5 day routes), Gladwin (for the 3 day route), Grayling (for the 2 day route), Wolverine (for the 2 day trail route), and ending in Mackinaw City. Each route varies in distance providing just the right challenge for cyclists, whether beginner or experienced, relaxed pace or speedy. DALMAC is one of the oldest all-volunteer-run tours in the United States, celebrating 48 years of excellence, thus making it one of the lowest cost tours in the nation. DALMAC is about bicycling and sharing the roads! DALMAC originated in 1971 when former State Representative Dick Allen challenged his colleagues and constituents with a ride all the way to the bridge to prove that bikes and cars could share Michigan roads safely. The objectives of DALMAC are to develop an awareness of bicyclists and their needs among the citizens of Michigan, to promote bicycling as a healthy means of transportation and recreation, and to encourage wider use of bicycles. DALMAC is staffed by volunteers of the Tri-County Bicycle Association (TCBA). If interested in volunteering, send an to: volunteer@dalmac.org. Proceeds from DALMAC are shared between TCBA and the DALMAC Fund. The DALMAC Fund provides grants to promote and improve bicycling throughout Michigan. More information and how to donate is at org by clicking on DALMAC Fund. Three Generations submitted by Layna Buskirk Who Can Ride? DALMAC is open to any capable and interested cyclist on a non-motorized bicycle or ebike. Riders under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult who must ride with them. DALMAC is ebike friendly. We offer convenient access to plug-ins each night in camp to charge your ebike batteries. Preparing For DALMAC For your enjoyment, you and your bicycle should be in good condition. You should be able to make minor repairs. Pace yourself to allow for food and rest stops and to arrive at each day s destination for dinner by 5:00 p.m. To help you achieve this pace, we have developed suggested advance guidelines in your map booklet. Times are marked and indicate the minimum distances that should be covered by the times listed. For Your Safety Bicycle helmets are required. Bicycle flags are highly recommended and available at no cost at Rider Check-in. No headphone devices are allowed while riding (including ipods, Bluetooth, etc.). All riding must be done during daylight hours. Obey all state and local laws. Local law enforcement advises they will be enforcing all applicable road user laws. For those having someone pick them up the last day of the ride, please tell them not to drive the route to meet you. 2

This means that all DALMAC routes will conclude at the Mackinaw City High School. Many riders will now have the opportunity to visit Mackinac Island and take a victory lap around the island.
