2 Welcome to the 2017 Please Read Carefully All the necessary information for the 2017 Ripon junior Triathlon should be included in this competitors publication. If there is anything you need further clarification on please contact the Freebird office prior to the event. NYP Tri & Freebird Events would like to thank you for entering the Ripon Junior Triathlon. We hope you all have a great race and enjoy your day with us. Please check the Ripon Tri website or Freebird website for your race number and swim wave. Any last minute updates will be posted on the Ripon Tri website and Freebird website please check this regularly to make sure you are aware of any changes What time should I arrive? Allow yourself plenty of time. You will need a minimum of 1.5 hour before your swim start time. Your start time is available on the Ripon Tri Website and Freebird Website Venue Ripon Racecourse Boroughbridge Road Ripon HG4 1UG How to get there Travelling from the North Exit the A1(M) at junc on 50 onto the A61 (South). A er approximately 4.5 miles exit the A61 onto the B6265 In 0.5 mile turn right into Ripon Racecourse. Travelling from the South Exit the A1(M) at junc on 48. At the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A168. At the next roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A168 North. Con nue for approximately 2.5 miles then exit at the roundabout (first exit) onto the B6265. Con nue along this road for approximately 4 miles before turning le into Ripon Racecourse.

3 Car Parking: Car parking is available at Ripon Racecourse. Please follow the signs and marshals directions. Please note that supporters of Yorkshire Air Ambulance will be operating the car parking area. A parking charge of 3.00 per car will be asked for, proceeds of which will be donated to Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Toilets & Showers: Toilets and showers are located at the race venue. Showers are free to use for all competitors and campers. Tri Start / Tri Star 1 / Tri Star 2 / Tri Star3 Important Note Please be sure that your child is entered in the correct age category. Under British Triathlon rules. All competitors ages are based on their age as at 31st December 2017 not on age on the day of the race. 4 Ripon Junior Tri : Site Map Layout Registra on BTF Membership After parking, please go straight to the registration area. This will be located in the large brick built café building as shown on the map above. Follow the well signed pedestrian route from the car park to the registration area. Please use the specific crossing point when crossing the racecourse itself. At Registration you will collect your competitors race pack along with your timing chip and any other last minute information you may need to know If you declared BTF membership when completing the online entry form, the registration staff will ask to see your membership licence. Please be aware that if you do not have your licence you will be asked to pay an additional 1 for BTF day membership before receiving your race pack. Non BTF Membership If you chose the Non BTF membership option when entering online you will already have paid the additional 1 for day membership Ripon JuniorTriathlon

You should make yourself fully conversant with these. You can download the rules from the Triathlon England website Race Briefing There will be a compulsory race briefing in the Transition Area at 12:00. 6 What Should I Do Next? After registering, attach your Bike Security Strap and your Bike Number to your bike, then take your bike to the Transition Area BIKE CHECK IN Gate. The bike racking is numbered. Please keep all your race equipment within the confines of your own bike space. Please do not leave any boxes or large bags near your bike, Please use the luggage pens at the end of the Transition Area. Your Race Numbers should be attached to your clothing so that your number is visible on your back while cycling and on your front while running. Number Belts are permitted. Transition will open for Juniors at 11:00am Transi on Area Security Please note: Only competitors, race officials and Freebird staff will be allowed into the transition area, no spectators under any circumstance. This is for everybody s safety and security. Parents will be allowed into Transition to help youngsters to set up, but must leave before the first race starts When checking your bike into the transition area before your race you will be asked to show both your race number and bike security label (attached to your bike) before being allowed into transition. After your race you will be asked once more to show your race number which must match your bike security label before being allowed out of transition with your bike and equipment

8 Spectator Guide There is great spectator viewing around the race venue. Spectators are most welcome and you will be able to see a lot of the race, but please follow these basic rules to ensure the safety of yourself and all of the competitors at the Only park in the official car park No spectators vehicles on the course please No spectators in the Transi on area please Do not cross any fences or barriers Follow the marshal s instruc ons and look out for compe tors who are racing Please keep all dogs on a lead within the race venue No Drones are to be flown anywhere within the Racecourse grounds Start Times & Distances Each age group will be a completely separate race and we will complete the full Swim, Bike & Run for all competitors before we start the next age group race. We are aiming for the following start times: Start Time Swim Bike Run Tri Start 12:30 75m 800m (out & back) 600m (out & back) Tri Star 1 13:00 200m 2000m (1 lap) 1200m (out & back) Tri Star 2 13:45 300m 4000m (2 laps) 1800m (out & back) Tri Star 3 14:30 400m 6000m (3 laps) 2400m (out & back)

9 The Swim The swim is a straight line swim for Tri Start competitors and an L shaped swim for Tri star 1, 2 & 3. Each age groups race will be completed before the start of the next age group The swim course is marked with large inflatable marker buoys There will be lots of very experienced water safety personnel on the water throughout the swim and we will have a team of experienced chaperone swimmers swimming alongside each age group to provide additional safety and encouragement If you require assistance from the safety boats, turn onto your back and wave your arms to attract the attention of the safety marshals. When the safety boat reaches you, follow the instructions from the safety marshal, they are there to help you. Please seed yourself at the swim start. Slower or less confident swimmers are advised to keep to the back of the pack. When you finish your swim there will be marshals to help you out of the water. Transi on T1 Leave your wetsuit near your bike spot Fit and fasten your Bike Helmet, then pick up your bike. Remember your Bike Number must be visible from the back. Follow the signs marked BIKE OUT. We will make you go around a marker post in Transition first, so that everyone has to travel the same distance. Don t worry there will be plenty of helpers and signs to direct you where to go. Remember not to get on your bike until you have crossed the MOUNT LINE Follow the fenced off route towards the Transition Area. As you cross the timing mat, your swim time will be recorded.

10 The Cycle You must wear your bike helmet for all of the bike course For Tri Start the bike course is an out and back course. There will be a marshal at the turnaround point to show you where to turn and we will place a large Red & White cone for you to ride around. When you get back to the Transition Area you enter through a different gate to the one you left by. There will be a marshal to show you where to go. Tri Star 1 will complete one lap of the track around the lake, keeping the lake on your left. Tri Star 2 will complete 2 laps of the track around the lake Tri Star 3 will complete 3 laps of the track around the lake. You must count your own laps and you must complete the correct number of laps before you finish At the end of your cycle ride, as you approach the Transition Area, you will see the DISMOUNT LINE. You must be fully off your bike Before you cross this line. As you cross the timing mat your cycle time will be recorded. Ripon JuniorTriathlon

11 Transi on T2 After getting off your bike at the Dismount Line follow the marked route back to the transition area. Return your bike to its original rack position. Rack your bike before removing your Bike Helmet. Make sure your Run Number is visible from the front. We will first get you to run around the marker post in the Transition Area, so that everyone covers the same distance again Follow the signs marked RUN OUT to head out on the run. The Run The Run is an out & back route. As you head out onto the run, there are drinks available at the exit gate Each age group race turns around at a different point. There will be a marshal to show you where to turn and a large Red & White Cone for you to run around. When you return from the turnaround, you will be directed to the Finish Funnel. Do Not go back into Transition. Remember the big smile for the cameras as you cross the Finish Line

12 A er The Race After crossing the finish line you will be able to help yourself to some refreshments. Please hand in your timing chip before you leave the finish compound. After each race has finished, there will be a short opportunity to collect bikes and race kit from Transition. One parent per child can assist each competitor. Please note that we must close Transition again before the next age group race starts. If you miss the time slot, you will have to wait until after the next race has finished before being allowed back into Transition. Please be sure to leave some dry kit with your parents, to wear after your race in case you have to wait around for a while Results You will be able to print out a copy of your individual race times at the Results tent. Full overall results will be available from the Freebird website: on Sunday evening Supporters Are you supporting someone who is taking part in the on 2nd July. Why not send them a good luck message. 13 Photos Free to Download and Share We will have a team of official photographers out on the course, capturing your best action shots, don t forget to smile. These images will be uploaded onto the Freebird website for you to view and download free of charge as you wish. All we ask is that you please share them through Facebook, Twitter, or a number of other social media channels. Let your friends and colleagues know what a great time you had at the Ripon Junior Tri. We will aim to get the photos uploaded as quickly as possible, but as there is likely to be a couple of thousand, it may be the Tuesday before they are all available to view.
