1 NOvEmBER 2015 President s Message Bob Moss On Saturday, September 19th, the TPCA held their 22nd Annual meeting. Ron Nichols, president of the Association, presided over the meeting and has done a yeoman s job of leading your Board of Directors over the last two years. Ron will continue to serve on the Board as secretary until the end of his term in September of The three outgoing board members deserve much credit for their tenure on the board: Nancy Stinger, who was vice president in her first year in office and a member-atlarge in her second year; Blair Hubbard, who served two years as a member-at-large; and Doug Roderick, our secretary over the past two years. All of these people served the community extremely well. The other vital aspect of the operation of the TPCA is both the leadership and membership of the various committees. These owners who volunteer their time on the committees also deserve a big THANK YOU. Your new board is dedicated to maintaining the CCRs, the Rules and Regulations, and the DRB Standards, thus assuring that we continue to make Tidewater the oasis on Little River Neck Road we all have come to enjoy. All of our decisions will be based on the above mentioned documents and the welfare and concerns of the residents of Tidewater. The new TPCA Board of Directors, listed as they appear on their group picture, are Roger Quinn and Jim Offutt, members-atlarge; Cathy Weis, vice president; Ron Nichols, secretary; Bob moss, president; Brian Burton, treasurer; and Archie Lemon, developer s representative. The Board hopes to be a leadership team that, together with property manager mel Renkey and his K.A.Diehl management and maintenance staffs, will respond to your concerns and serve you in a manner that justifies the faith you have shown in us by electing us to the Board. It might seem elementary, but I believe there is a lot of wisdom in these tenets. We will refer to them from time to time. All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten (a guide for global leadership) All I really need to know about how to live, and what to do, and how to be, I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain, but there in the sand pile at the school. These are the things I learned: Share everything Play fair Don t hit people Put things back where you found them Clean up your own mess Don t take things that aren t yours Say you re sorry when you hurt someone Wash your hands before you eat Flush Warm cookies and milk are good for you Live a balanced life learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some Take a nap every afternoon When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands, and stick together Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the styrofoam cup: the roots go down and the plant goes up and no body really knows how or why, but we are all like that Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the styrofoam cup they all die. So do we And then remember the Dick and Jane books and the first word you learned-the biggest word of all-look Everything you need to know is in there somewhere: The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation; ecology and politics and equality and sane living. Take any one of those items and extrapolate it into sophisticated adult terms and apply it to your family life or your work or government or your world and it holds true and clear and firm. Think what a better world it would be if we all the whole world had cookies and milk at about 3 o clock in the afternoon and then lay down with our blankets for a nap. Or if all governments had as a basic policy to always put things back where we found them and to clean up their own mess. And it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out in the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together. What follows is a guide to global leadership from Robert Fulghum s book All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten. 4 Tidewater Plantation Community Association Design Review Board Dave Chambers, Chairperson We have been experiencing a large number of requests to repaint homes and replace roofs with the same color. It would be greatly appreciated if you could include the paint color with the Sherwin Williams code added to your request form. This also holds true for your new roof with the same color. The shingle type and color would help to facilitate the process. This request is due to the fact that some homeowners do not have the original colors in their files at the DRB office. As you can see, anything you can do to help us in turn helps you. Also noted, when completing a request form for any project, please be sure to include your lot number and a clearly written address. Again, this helps to process your requests in a timely fashion. Seasonal/Party Decorations: Seasonal decorations for customary holidays are acceptable as long as they do not go to excess. They should be tasteful and not provide excessive amounts of light or noise to neighboring properties. Seasonal decorations should not be installed more than thirty (30) days prior to the holiday and must be removed from your property and house exterior no later than ten (10) days following the holiday. While generally putting lights in an exterior tree or bush would fall within the normal guidelines for acceptable seasonal lighting, perimeter lighting of a house or garage so as to create a light border around the structure is not approved, except for icicle lighting. Exterior lights, if used, should be nonblinking lights. Plastic ornamentation for seasonal decorations such as lawn figures or lawn scenes is not acceptable. Balloons or party decorations are acceptable for the day of a party as long as they are not carried to excess; and should be removed prior to the next morning. Property Committee Barbara Baker, Secretary PROPERTY COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP DRIVE The Property Committee needs to fill several vacancies with volunteers from each of our neighborhoods, including condominiums. volunteers assist the BOD with developing property management standards for our buildings, roads and amenities. They periodically inspect our buildings, roads and amenities visually to assure their conditions meet the Association standard. They make recommendations to the BOD as needed. By serving on this committee you help to ensure that Tidewater continues to be well maintained and serves the needs of our community. If you would like to be considered for one of these positions, you can the Property Committee at property@tidewaterhoa.org or call Lynne Remedios, Chairperson of the Property Committee at The Property Committee is working hard to maintain and enhance the Tidewater buildings, roads, pools, tennis courts and fitness center. If you have any suggestions or concerns regarding these facilities please forward your thoughts to property@tidewaterhoa.org as we look forward to your input. 4 Security Committee Jim Muirhead, Chairperson * FREE SEMINAR FOR TIDEWATER * HOW NOT TO BE A VICTIM Friday, November 20th, 11 the Amenity Center Presented by Jim Muirhead, Security Chairperson, Retired NYPD Detective with 21 years of service Subjects: Staying safe when shopping Female pumping gas alone Date rape prevention Common sense safety factors, etc. The seminar is designed mainly for women, but men are welcome. This is a FREE seminar for anyone wishing to attend. (It is not a martial arts program.) Promotion Committee Bill Pearson, Chairperson The 2015 Tidewater Patriot Day Charity Golf Tournament is in the record books! All the planning, preparation and coordination for this year is over. It was a year of change for the tournament. Early in the year, the TCTC trustees accepted the challenge to look at every part of the weekend event for improvements that would enhance the enjoyment for our players and residents. There was never a major problem that required correction, but we realized there is a need to keep the tournament fresh and interesting. Response has been very positive. Here are a few of the changes: Format change from Texas Scramble to Captain s Choice Tournament Reception (more seating, new speakers, less talk, more party) Centralizing tournament events to driving range using bigger tent New golf clinic guest instructor, meredith Kirk. magic Ball Putting Contest Online Silent Auction in addition to Live Silent Auction New video to promote the tournament Addition of online store to the TCTC website There were many more behind the scene adjustments, and I expect there will be a few more forthcoming for next year s tournament. Due to all the changes the event is in great shape for There are many ways to measure the success of an event; some are obvious and some are subtle. Here are both: Record high donation to TCTC charities of over $56,000 Sold out player slots Record high military members and first responders playing in the tournament Highest sponsorship participation ever Child of military family member while on dolphin cruise during the tournament exclaiming, This is the best day of my life. Numerous sincere comments from our military guests, thank ing Tidewater for providing them with a wonderful retreat.

5 volunteers are the lifeblood of any event, and a jam packed weekend event like ours is no exception. The Bowling for veterans, Zumbathon, Long Drive, Golf Clinic, in-store putting contest at Golfsmith and of course the golf tournament with everything it includes would not be possible without our volunteers. Time and space do not allow the proper recognition each one of them deserves, so please accept a collective thanks here for your contributions. If you look up trustee in the dictionary you will find a different definition than the one used at TCTC. Here's our definition: "a volunteer who puts in long hours and of whom much is expected." That definition fits all the TCTC Trustees. Without marti Drummond, Arlene Smith, John mouco and Archie Lemon none of the above would be possible. The TCTC sponsors deserve our support. most have been with the tournament for many years. Please consider these local businesses when making your purchase decisions. To see all the TCTC sponsors and more about this year's tournament, including the new TCTC video, go to Congratulations to our 2015 Tournament Overall Champions: the team of Kyle Westmoreland, Colonel E.G.
