1 LONGBRIDG RAIL STATION Delivered in Partnership by Centro, Birmingham City Council, Network Rail and London Midland Regional transport co-ordinating body Centro, Birmingham City Council, Network Rail and London Midland are working together to deliver over 1million worth of improvements to Longbridge Rail Station to provide a modern, high quality passenger facility and encourage more people to use public transport. The improvements include: Upgrading the station facade in a similar style to University Station (e.g. cladding, glazing, painting) Automatic power entrance doors CCTV upgrade Redecorate the booking hall Renovate the toilets Installation of services to facilitate addition ticket machines Lighting improvements Redecorate the bridge and stairwells Additional customer information screens Glaze and enclose waiting area on Platform 1, and install heating Painting of both parapet walls of the road overbridge immediately outside the station Upgrade of all seating on both platforms xtended canopy / additional waiting shelter on Platform 1

3 BUS PASSNGR AND PDSTRIAN IMPROVMNTS Delivered by Centro Longbridge is a key destination and interchange for bus services across Southern Birmingham and further afield. The town centre boasts direct and frequent bus services to Birmingham City Centre,, Worcester and Redditch amongst other key local destinations and commercial centres. Longbridge also acts as the southern gateway to the strategic Bristol Road Corridor with direct and frequent connections to education and employment opportunities and business development at the University To aid bus passengers and pedestrians navigate around Longbridge Town Centre a comprehensive wayfinding strategy has been developed by St. Modwen but this needs to be extended to cover the enhanced bus stop infrastructure. Additional wayfinding and public transport totems will be installed across the site. The following locations are proposed: Outside the Station In the vicinity of Sunbury Road shops of Birmingham, Queen lizabeth Hospital and other commercial developments at Battery Park and Selly Oak. On the A38 close to the Technology Park On the A38 in the vicinity of the pedestrian access from To facilitate and encourage bus journeys to and from Longbridge it is proposed to upgrade the bus stop infrastructure to include: High quality weatherproof shelters including seating Common branded design Lickey Road roundabout On Lickey Road in vicinity of the bus stops and pedestrian crossing; and On the A38 in the vicinity of the bus stops where the former Dudley College building is situated. 4 LONGBRIDG ISLAND Delivered by St. Modwen and Birmingham City Council The Longbridge 2015/2016 stage of works proposes to improve the A38 roundabout junction with Lickey Road to improve traffic flow and accommodate development. The scheme will also provide access to Longbridge West. It will also help to improve connectivity to as well as north and east Birmingham. 7 FIBR OPTIC BROADBAND Information and Communication Technology is the cornerstone of the modern economy, underpinning commercial activity across all sectors. The ultrafast broadband will provide the same connectivity as Birmingham city centre and make the business hub more attractive to heavy-use operations such as data centres, -commerce and data mining companies and internet exchange points. Longbridge has the potential to install ultrafast broadband connections as part of the utilities package and aspires to act as a partner in Birmingham s bid to become a Smart City. It will also reinforce Longbridge s ITC Park status which it was granted by Birmingham City Council in 2012 in recognition of its potential to attract millions of pounds of inward investment from ICT companies, in turn generating thousands of jobs.
8 TH LONGBRIDG CYCL CONNCTIVITY PROJCT Delivered by Birmingham City Council Birmingham City Council, St. Modwen and Sustrans, the operators of the National Cycle Network (NCN), are working on 170,000 proposals to divert the NCN Route 5 through the heart of Longbridge and provide new cycling links to help foster the burgeoning cycling community. The proposal is to extend the traffic free route along the River Rea to Tessall Lane and connect with the Bike Hub at Longbridge Rail Station. From here, there are off-road routes into Longbridge Town Centre through the new Austin Park and on to the A38. The infrastructure includes: Road space reallocation on Tessall Lane to provide contra-flow cycle lane between River Rea and Longbridge Lane OPTION 1 nvironmental improvements to A38 underpass, including replacement of the former track bed, drainage, surfacing, new LAYOUT PLAN TO B SUPPLID wall cladding and a new artist-designed lighting scheme Reopening and improving the ramp alongside the former Dudley College including street lighting, resurfacing and CCTV A new foot/cycle bridge over the River Rea Relocation of parking on Tessal Lane to the Centro P&R to improve safety. Option 1 Provides significant improvements to pedestrians and cyclists and provides improved traffic flows along Longbridge Lane and A38 / Tessall Lane Junction. The detail also shows Tessall Lane improvements. Option 2 Provides improvements for pedestrians and cyclists, but maintains traffic flows as present. OPTION 2
